Προορισμός του ανθρώπου είναι να ζήσει αιώνια. Αυτό το οποίο πολλοί δεν έχουν κατανοήσει είναι πως η αιωνιότητα είναι δώρο Θεού και μόνο με την σχέση μας με το Δημιουργό Θεό θα μπορέσουμε να απολαύσουμε τους καρπούς της αιώνιας ζωής στην ουράνια Βασιλεία. Στην σημερινή Ευαγγελική περικοπή ο Κύριος περπατώντας προς τη πόλη Ναϊάν, αντίκρουσε μία χήρα που πήγαινε να θάψει το μονάκριβο γιό της. Ο Κύριος μας Ιησούς Χριστός βλέποντας τον πόνο αυτής της γυναικός, τη λυπήθηκε. Μπρος τον πόνο της χήρας δεν της μίλησε για την πίστη της ούτε άνοιξε συζήτηση, απλά πλησίασε τη σoρό του νέου λέγοντας: "Νεαρέ σε διατάζω να σηκωθείς". Αμέσως σηκώθηκε ο νέος και άρχισε να μιλά. Όλοι έμειναν άναυδοι μπρος στο θαυμαστό γεγονός της ανάστασης του νέου. Ήταν δυνατόν να γίνει κάτι διαφορετικό όταν η πηγή της ζωής αντικρίζει τον θάνατο; Εδώ βλέπουμε την εξουσία του Ιησού Χριστού να κυριαρχεί επάνω στο θάνατο και στη ζωή. Όταν γνωρίζουμε πως ο Θεός δημιούργησε όλο το σύμπαν και τον ίδιο τον άνθρωπο από το μηδέν, γιατί θαυμάζουμε ένα τόσο μικρό γεγονός όπου, για τον Θεό είναι τόσο εύκολο; Ο Ιησούς Χριστός, ως Υιός του Θεού, άν ήρθε στη γη, δεν ήρθε μόνο για να κάνει θαύματα και να γιατρεύει τον άνθρωπο στο σώμα αλλά, ο απώτερος σκοπός του ήταν να γιατρέψει τον άνθρωπο στη ψυχή του. Χωρίς να γιατρευτεί η ψυχή του ανθρώπου δεν έχει να κερδίσει τίποτε, διότι, ο θάνατος του
σώματος είναι αναπόφευκτος. Παράταση ζωής παίρνουμε όταν μας γιατρεύουν το σώμα. Έτσι, και ο νέος δεν έζησε για πάντα αλλά, κάποια στιγμή πέθανε ξανά. Γιατί απλά θαυμάζουμε το γεγονός αυτό, χωρίς να να μας ενθαρρύνει στη δική μας πίστη; Εάν διαβάζουμε το Ευαγγέλιο και απλά θαυμάζουμε για τα θαύματα του Κυρίου χωρίς να ενισχυόμαστε πνευματικά, τότε έχουμε χάσει το νόημα. Όπως στην εποχή του Κυρίου και εμείς σήμερα, απλά μένουμε στον θαυμασμό και δεν αφήνουμε την Χάρη του Θεού να μας αγγίξει. Θαύματα γίνονται καθημερινά, εμείς όμως, είτε τα παραβλέπουμε, είτε δεν είμαστε σε θέση να τα αναγνωρίσουμε, είτε τα αρνούμαστε, διότι τα μάτια της ψυχής μας είναι κλειστά! Η άρνηση και η αμφιβολία είναι πρόσφορο έδαφος για την αμαρτία! Εάν όντως αναγνωρίζουμε τα θαύματα, τότε επιβάλλεται να αλλάξουμε και να γίνουμε πιο ένθερμοι στη πίστη μας. Να μην μένουμε στο θαυμασμό και να χάνουμε την ουσία! Αδελφοί μου, εάν ήρθε ο Ιησούς Χριστός στη γη, ήταν για να δείξει την ευσπλαχνία του σε όλους τους ανθρώπους, απλά, σε κάθε άνθρωπο φανερώνεται διαφορετικά, ανάλογα πως κρίνει ο Θεός ότι θα τον ωφελήσει. Η Χάρη του Θεού είναι και συνεχίζει να είναι μαζί μας στη ζωή, μόνο όταν επιτρέπουμε αυτή η Χάρη να μας σκεπάζει. Εμείς οι ίδιοι είτε επιτρέπουμε ή αποτρέπουμε να λειτουργήσει η Χάρη του Θεού πάνω μας. Εύχομαι εκ βάθους καρδίας, η Χάρις του Κυρίου ημών Ιησού Χριστού και η αγάπη του Θεού και Πατρός και η κοινωνία του Αγίου Πνεύματος να είναι πάντα μαζί σας. ΑΜΗΝ Αρχιμ. October 12 th Symeon the New Theologian- Saint Symeon became a monk of the Studite Monastery as a young man, under the guidance of the elder Symeon the Pious. Afterwards he struggled at the Monastery of Saint Mamas in Constantinople, of which he became abbot. After enduring many trials and afflictions in his life of piety, he reposed in 1022. Marveling at the heights of prayer and holiness to which he attained, and the loftiness of the teachings of his life and writings, the church calls him "the New Theologian." Only to two others, John the Evangelist and Gregory, Patriarch of Constantinople, has the church given the name "Theologian." Saint Symeon reposed on March 12, but since this always falls in the Great Fast, his feast is kept today. October 13 th - - Carpos, Papylos, Agathodoros, & Agathoniki, the Martyrs of Pergamos - Saint Carpos was Bishop of the Church of Thyatira in Asia Minor and Papylos was his deacon, whom he had ordained. Seized as Christians and tormented in Thyatira, they were taken to Sardis, whither Agathodoros, their servant, followed them, and also confessed Christ, and was tormented with them. Together with Agathoniki, the sister of Saint Papylos. they were all beheaded during the reign of Decius, in the year 250. October 14 th Kosmas the Hagiopolite- Saint Kosmas was from the Holy City, Jerusalem, and was a contemporary and peer of Saint John of Damascus (Dec. 4), with whom also he was raised when, because of his orphanhood he was adopted by Sergios, Saint John's father, and with whom he had the same instructor. About the year 743, he was elected Bishop of Maiuma, a coastal city of Palestine, aforetime under the jurisdiction of Gaza, with the name Port Gaza. During the reign of Saint Constantine the Great, it became a separate township and at that time was renamed Constantia, after Constantine, the son of the Emperor. Kosmas became an excellent hymnographer, and he is called "the Composer and Melodist," Among his many compositions are the Canon of the Cross (Sept. 14) and the Canon for the Nativity of Christ, "Christ is born, give ye glory." October 15 th - Loukianos the Martyr of Antioch - This Saint was from Samosata, the son of pious parents. He established a catechetical school in Antioch, and taught the correct doctrines of the Faith and made clear the parts of the divine Scriptures that were difficult to understand. He edited the Old Testament translation from the Hebrew tongue, and published it in an excellent edition, free from every heretical corruption and interpolation. He traveled to Nicomedia to strengthen the faithful there in their contests for Christ, and was accused before Maximinus, with whom he conversed openly. When he had made a defense of the Christian Faith, he was condemned to imprisonment where, in 311, he died of hunger and thirst. October 16th - Longinos the Centurion - This Martyr was in the service of Pontius Pilate at the time of Christ our Savior's Passion. While standing guard at the Cross and beholding the earthquake and all that came to pass, he cried out with fear, "Truly this was the Son of God" (Matt. 27:54). After the Resurrection, he forsook the military and departed for Cappadocia, his homeland, where he preached Christ. By the agency of Pontius Pilate, Tiberius Caesar had him arrested and beheaded.
