Hymns Hymn for the Dormition Ἐν τῇ Γεννήσει τὴν παρθενίαν ἐφύλαξας, ἐν τῇ Κοιμήσει τὸν κόσμον οὐ κατέλιπες Θεοτόκε. In giving birth, thou didst preserve thy virginity; in thy dormition, thou didst not forsake the world, O Theotokos. Thou wast translated un - to life, since thou art the Mother of Life; and by thine intercessions dost thou redeem our souls from death. Hymn for the Resurrection Let all things above in heav n rejoice, and let all things below on earth be glad With all the might and strength of His arm an eternal deed the Lord did perform Beneath His feet He has trampled down death by death, and first born of the dead has He become From the womb of Hades has He delivered us, and to all the world has granted His great redeeming mercy Hymn for the Transfiguration of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Metemorfothis en to ori, Christe o Theos, dixas tis mathites Sou tin doxan Sou, kathos idynando Lampson ke imin tis amartolis to fos Sou to aidion, presvies tis Theotokou Fotodota doxa Si. When O Christ our God Thou wast Transfigured on the mountain Thou didst reveal Thy glory to Thy disciples in proportion as they could bear it. Let Thine everlasting light also enlighten us sinners. By the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Thou Bestower of light, glory to Thee Kontakion Τὴν ἐν πρεσβείαις ἀκοίμητον Θεοτόκον, καὶ προστασίαις ἀμετάθετον ἐλπίδα, τάφος καὶ νέκρωσις οὐκ ἐκράτησεν ὡς γὰρ ζωῆς Μητέρα, πρὸς τὴν ζωὴν μετέστησεν, ὁ μήτραν οἰκήσας ἀειπάρθενον The grave and death could not hold the Theotokos, who is unsleeping in her intercessions and an unfailing hope in her mediations. For as the Mother of Life she was translated to life by Him Who dwelt in her ever virgin womb. Hymn to the Theotokos Αἱ γενεαὶ πᾶσαι, μακαρίζομέν σε, τὴν μόνην Θεοτόκον. Now all generations call you blessed, O only Theotokos. In you the laws of nature are defeated, O undefiled Virgin pure. In virginity childbirth was accomplished, and death introduces life. You, after bearing, are virgin, and after dying are living. Mother of God, ever save your inheritance Communion Hymn Potirion sotiriou lipsome kai to onoma Kiriou epikalesome. Allilouia I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord.
Epistle - St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 15:1-11 B RETHREN, I would remind you in what terms I preached to you the gospel, which you received, in which you stand, by which you are saved, if you hold it fast - unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. For I am the least of the apostles, unfit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God which is with me. Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed. Gospel - Matthew 19:16-26 A t that time, a young man came up to Jesus, kneeling and saying, "Good Teacher, what good deed must I do, to have eternal life?" And he said to him, "Why do you call me good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments." He said to him, "Which?" And Jesus said, "You shall not kill, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother, and You shall love your neighbor as yourself." The young man said to him, "All these I have observed; what do I still lack?" Jesus said to him, "If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions. And Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly, I say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." When the disciples heard this they were greatly astonished, saying, "Who then can be saved?" But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

Eternal Light Society and Holy Resurrection Burial Society Thinking about death is not easy or comfortable, but it's something, especially as Orthodox Christians, that we must do. Now, having just celebrated the Feast of the Dormition, is an appropriate time for us to embark on a new ministry helping our fellow Orthodox Christians prepare for death their own and that of loved ones. Did you know that the traditional practice of the Church is that we care for our own departed, preparing their bodies for burial ourselves with love and prayer? Did you know that the Church considers cremation to be the deliberate desecration and destruction of what God has made and ordained for us? Did you know that chemical embalming the way we practice it today is a relatively new practice that is only popular in this country? But the more important question is, "What is the most loving, God-honoring way we can care for our departed loved ones?" We are each members of the Body of Christ. When we care for each other, even in death, we care for Christ Himself. How should we do that? The good news is that much information is available online! You can listen to podcasts at Ancient Faith Radio by following this link <http://www.ancientfaith.com/podcasts/christianending>, and you can read about and purchase A Christian Ending by Deacon Mark and Elizabeth Barna book at http://www.achristianending.com/. The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese provides necessary information regarding one s wishes end-of-life plans, including Orthodox Living Will on their website <http://www.goarch.org/archdiocese/departments/stewardship/ planned_giving> Please take some time to listen to or read these valuable resources. There are already several members of our community who are committed to making this happen, learning and planning in order to help fellow parishioners make end-of-life decisions and provide a real option when our loved ones pass from this life. I believe this is an important thing for us to do as a community. If you would like to be involved, please attend our organizational meeting on Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 3PM to 5PM in Mount Tabor Hall 40 days blessing for Wolfgang Elias Minor son of Anastasia Dimou and James Minor AND FOR Mihael Enrique Moya son of Iulia and Enrique Moya
