Also, this year the Church School staff is stressing the importance of all children attending the full pageant rehearsals to become familiar with THE SONGS, WHERE TO STAND, and THE OVERALL PROGRAM. The schedule this year is as follows: Sunday, November 6 begin rehearsing songs Sunday, December 4 select names for primary roles and readers Sunday, December 11 full rehearsal during Sunday Church School Saturday, December 17 full rehearsal immediately following Communion Breakfast If you have any questions, please contact Christina Kogos at cmkogos2@aol.com.

GOYA THANKSGIVING RETREAT GOYA has a great (and very short) retreat planned November 18 and 19, the weekend BEFORE Thanksgiving holidays. Members are strongly encouraged not only to attend the retreat in Mobile, Alabama, but also to take this opportunity to meet fellow GOYANs from the surrounding Gulf Coast communities. INTERNATIONAL CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL AND PASTRY SALE Holy Trinity Church in Biloxi is hosting its annual fundraiser on Saturday, December 10, 2016, from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm at 255 Beauvoir Road in Biloxi. The event will feature a pastry sale, live entertainment, traditional international food, kids' activities, and a marketplace with vendors and gifts. Make plans to drive over to Mississippi and support this worthwhile event. If you would like more information, contact Biloxi Parish Council President George Yurchak at georgeyurchak@yahoo.com. PHILOPTOCHOS SENIOR CITIZENS LUNCHEON Philoptochos invites all senior citizens in the community to attend the Senior Citizens luncheons. Give a friend a call to remind them about the event. Offer a ride to a senior, who may not have transportation. A spectacular Christmas dinner will be served on Tuesday, December 6, St. Nicholas Day. Make plans to attend and enjoy a delicious lunch and have fun with bingo. Many thanks are extended to Bella and Ray Bouton and Pauline Caridas, who sponsored the Thanksgiving feast this past Thursday in memory of their sister Mary Castrinos Giannopoulos. THANKSGIVING PROJECT Today is the LAST DAY to contribute to the Thanksgiving project. Each year Philoptochos asks for your support to provide a Thanksgiving Basket filled with gift cards and goodies for the needy families within the community. Please stop by the table set up in the Coffee Room. Your donations will be greatly appreciated. Sunday, November 20 ~ Continued 12:00 pm ~ Kids' Café in Upstairs Common Area 12:00 pm ~ Holy Trinity PTA Tree Set Up in Coffee Room 12:00 pm ~ Holy Trinity PTA Turkey Raffle Drawing 2:00 pm ~ KARMOUKOS BAPTISM Message from Father George JOHN CHRYSOSTOM THE GOLDEN MOUTHED PREACHER Today, we commemorate our father among the saints John Chrysostom, Archbishop of Constantinople. (347-407 AD) In his early life, he became a hermit and lived an extreme ascetic life, which greatly affected his health and forced him to return to his hometown of Antioch. There he was ordained and served the Church for many years, gaining favor among the people as an eloquent preacher of the Word of God. Especially notable are his astute explanations of Bible passages and moral teaching. He particularly emphasized almsgiving. He was also most concerned with the spiritual and temporal needs of the poor. He spoke out against abuse of wealth and personal property. Because of his strength as a Christian preacher, teacher, and leader, the Church called for him to become the Bishop of Constantinople. The position was not something that he was eager to accept because it came with much pomp and celebration in the Imperial City of Constantinople. He deplored the fact that Imperial court protocol would now assign to him access to privileges greater than the highest state officials. During his time as bishop he adamantly refused to host lavish entertainments. This meant he was popular with the common people but unpopular with the wealthy and the clergy. True to his high calling as a preacher of God s Word, he was critical of the Imperial lifestyles and specifically critical of the Emperor and his wife. Finding alliances with bishops who could be swayed by promises, the Emperor called a synod to remove John from his position of Bishop of Constantinople. This battle continued, and John was exiled once only to be returned by his successor. Ultimately, the intervention of the Emperor sought a second exile for John, which ultimately sent him to his death. John never reached the destination of this exile as he died during the journey. His final words were "Glory be to God for all things!" By the intercessions of Saint John Chrysostom, Christ our God, have mercy on us and save us. Amen. (Quotes are from: orthodoxwiki.org)

BLOOD DONORS NEEDED The Cathedral office was notified that Nick Kardoulias needs volunteers to donate blood on his behalf due to renal issues that necessitate blood transfusions. Please consider going to East Jefferson General Hospital and donating blood. And, don't forget to mention his name. DAUGHTERS OF PENELOPE PASTRY SALE WORKSHOPS Pastry workshops will begin at 10:15 am on both Tuesday, November 15, and after church services on Wednesday, November 16. Please note the time change that workshops on both days will start at 10:15 am. Everyone is welcome to come assist the Daughters of Penelope with their pastry workshops in preparation of the sale in December. All pastry sale orders must be submitted by tomorrow's DEADLINE, Monday, November 14. Orders may be turned in to the Church office or to a member of the Daughters but no later than tomorrow. Thank you. EPIPHANY CELEBRATION The annual Theophany (Epiphany) Celebration will take place on Sunday, January 8, 2017, and plans are underway for this very special event. Those, who wish to retrieve the blessed wooden cross, are asked to submit their completed application form to the Cathedral office. Application forms are available in the Narthex and Cathedral office. Those, who step forward to serve as an Epiphany Cross Retriever, exemplify their faith as Orthodox Christians and receive a special blessing from the Church, as well as a gold cross and chain. The Epiphany Celebration at Bayou St. John in front of the Cathedral commemorates the baptism of Christ in the River Jordon over 2,000 years ago; the event was inaugurated at Holy Trinity in January 2014 as part of the 150 th Anniversary Celebration. Volunteers that would like to assist with this event or have any questions are asked to contact Co- Chairpersons Costa Vennis or Barbara Stavis Wolf, or Coordinating Advisor Nick Chronis. SUNDAY FELLOWSHIP SPONSORS The Cathedral family thanks the Daughters of Penelope, who volunteered to sponsor the November Sunday Fellowship. Please note that December is still available for "adoption." If you can volunteer for some or all of December, contact Maria Anastasiou at 504-456-1780. TURKEY RAFFLE Holy Trinity PTA is selling Turkey Raffle tickets after church services today, November 13, in the Coffee Room. The drawing will be the Sunday before Thanksgiving, November 20. LITURGY - If the ocean is good and worthy of praise before God, how much more beautiful is the assembly of a Church like this: where the voices of men, of women, of children, arise in our prayers to God, mingling and re-sounding like the waves, which beat upon the shore. -St. John Chrysostom As a parish of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, Holy Trinity Cathedral is guided by the articles of the Unified Parish Regulation. The Archdiocese considers parishioners in good standing when the following criteria are fulfilled. PARISHIONERS Section 1: Every person, who is baptized and chrismated according to the rites of the Orthodox Church, is a parishioner. The religious, moral, and social duties of a parishioner are to apply the tenets of the Orthodox Faith to his/her life and to: adhere to and live according to the tenets of the Orthodox faith; faithfully attend the Divine Liturgy and other worship services; participate regularly in the holy sacraments; respect all ecclesiastical authority and all governing bodies of the Church; be obedient in matters of the Faith, practice, and ecclesiastical order; contribute towards the progress of the Church's sacred mission; and be an effective witness and example of the Orthodox Faith and Traditions to all people. A parishioner in good standing practices all the religious and moral duties as described in this Section 1. At a minimum, a parishioner in good standing must: be eighteen years of age or over; be current in his or her stewardship and other financial obligations to the Parish, abide by all the regulations herein stated and the Parish Bylaws; and cooperate in every way towards the welfare and well-being of the Parish. (Stewardship is recommended to be ten percent (10%) of one s annual income as stated in Holy Scripture to help meet the financial obligations of the Parish, the Metropolis, and the Archdiocese.) Section 2: Any person wishing to be a parishioner in good standing in more than one Parish must remit his or her Stewardship financial obligation to each Parish as stated in Section 1 of this Article. A parishioner wishing to move from one Parish to another must present a letter of transfer from the Priest of the Parish from which he or she is moving stating that he or she is in good standing. Section 3: No person shall be deemed a parishioner in good standing while: not adhering to the standards outlined in Sections 1 and 2 of this Article; retaining affiliation in an Orthodox Parish which defies the jurisdiction or the ecclesiastical authority of the Archdiocese; being a member of or practicing a non- Orthodox faith or other religion; and deliberately disregarding and transgressing the moral law of the Church. Section 4: The Priest shall judge any cases of special circumstances justifying the waiver of a parishioner's stewardship financial obligations. Section 5: A parishioner in good standing has the right to attend, participate and vote at Parish Assemblies, as well as to vote in Parish Council elections. Each such parishioner may also be nominated for election to the Parish Council or to represent the Parish at a Local Assembly or the Congress. Section 6: An Orthodox Christian parishioner in good standing at his or her canonical Orthodox Parish may serve as a sponsor in another Parish without being obliged to become a member in good standing at the Parish where the sacrament will take place. A parishioner may serve as a sponsor in another Parish by presenting a letter of good standing from his or her home Parish Priest. Section 7: Each Parish shall maintain a Parish Record, which shall include, at a minimum, the following information concerning each parishioner: baptismal and family name, occupation (optional), dates of baptism and/or chrismation and marriage, complete family record of spouse and children, date of entry into the Parish indicating if transferred from another Parish, date of death, and such other information that shall be deemed appropriate. It showed us the height that is attained by humility. Now you instruct us by your words, Father John Chrysostom. Intercede with Christ God, the Word himself, entreating Him to save our souls. Apolytikion of the Holy Trinity Plagal Tone 4 Blessed are You, O Christ our God, who made fishermen all-wise, sending upon them the Holy Spirit and, through them, netting the world. O Loving One, glory to You. The Angels of God praise her. She is the heavenly tabernacle.

THE EPISTLE Hebrews 7:26-28; 8:1-2 Brethren, it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless, unstained, separated from sinners, exalted above the heavens. He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; he did this once for all when he offered up himself. Indeed, the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect for ever. Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister in the sanctuary and the true tent which is set up not by man but by the Lord. THE GOSPEL Luke 10:25-37 At that time, a lawyer stood up to put Jesus to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read?" And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." And he said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and you will live." But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion, and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, 'Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.' Which of these three, do you think, proved neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?" He said, "The one who showed mercy on him." And Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."
