U.S. Postage Winston-Salem, NC Permit # 168 September 13, 2017 Dear Reverend Fathers, Brothers and Sisters in Christ, After the impact from Hurricane Katrina a few years ago, it is hard to comprehend that yet another hurricane has caused major destructions in our Metropolis. But, as you did through your kindness after Katrina, I strongly believe you will step up once again and offer your assistance and support to any of our Orthodox faithful and our affected parishes in any way you can. We know that our brothers and sisters in Florida and other states within our Metropolis have suffered greatly in the last few days and we pray that all affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma recover as fast as possible. It is our privilege to be able to offer some form of help to combat the misfortunes that have befallen them. We hope that this assistance will enable them to begin the process of restoration and healing from the trauma of this natural disaster. With God s help we can find the strength, understanding and resources to assist our suffering parishioners; not only in the beginning with needed material resources, but also in the months to come, spiritually and emotionally. In the weeks to come, a number of individual families in our Metropolis will certainly be in need of financial assistance to help cover their losses and rebuild their lives. His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios appointed me as Chairman of the Metropolis of Atlanta Relief Committee many years ago to help assist these individuals in any way that we can. I will do my best to facilitate the relief efforts in a timely and efficient manner. Together, we will do our best to serve the needs of our Orthodox faithful. Father Costa reviewed the new child drop off and pick up policy to ensure the safety of all our children attending preschool, dance & Greek School. New order for Holy Communion: Nursery Children will go first, followed by Sunday School children & teachers, then Parish Council will dismiss one pew at a time from the remaining members of the congregation. Teddy Pritsis will begin substituting in the Greek School. GOYA is now 6th - 12th grades for year long ministries (not Youth Rally) Sunday School has new coordinators: Zoe Bobotsiares, Helen Karagiorgis and Heather Vlachos. 170-180 children will be in our Sunday School program. Information about the Archdiocese annual allocation was shared from Father Demetri. George Bambalis will look further into the increases at the upcoming Clergy Laity meeting November 10 in Atlanta. Nominating Committee was formed with George Bambalis, Stan Carroll, Nick Karagiorgis & Paula Christakos. Election to be held the second Sunday of December. $1,000 flood support was moved & approved for IOCC to assist victims in Texas & Florida.

Evie Vagios Sunday School News from the Annunciation Sermonette Theme: Words of Life and Faith Sunday School is officially underway! We have had a wonderful start to our 2017-2018 year. It seems like our teachers and students have really started to enjoy the first weeks of class. We would like to thank our teachers who have offered their time and talents to help educate our children. They were eager to get into their classrooms and to get to know the kids. Our instructors are following this year's theme, which is "Words of Life & Faith." Schedule for Liturgy and Sunday School: 10:00 am Liturgy Begins 11:00 am Youth proceeds to classes after Holy Communion 11:45 am Dismissal of Sunday school Parents with students kindergarten age or younger are asked to proceed to the classrooms for student pick up immediately following the sermon (but no earlier than 11:45 am). Please remember that in order to participate in youth activities outside of Sunday School (GOYA, Greek dance, etc.), a child must attend more than 55% of his or her classes. Attendance will be taken and must be consistent throughout the school year. Divine Liturgy in another town can be counted towards attendance if the appropriate forms are completed. If you have further questions about this, please contact the Sunday School Directors or any member of the clergy. We also wanted to remind you that our food drive has begun! Please send nonperishable food items every Sunday to help your child's class fill their boxes. The boxes will be given to the Food Bank to provide emergency assistance to families in need. Greek School is off to a great start. Students were excited to get back into their classes. This month we will be celebrating OXI Day on October 29th with a brief performance in the sanctuary at the conclusion of the divine liturgy followed by Coffee Hour hosted by the Greek School. Please be on the lookout for the Sign-up Genius in your e- mail for items needed for the coffee hour. Also students are required to wear their Greek School Logo shirts and Navy blue pants (boys) or skirts (girls) for the performance. If you do not already have your shirt please see me. Our HOPE & JOY kids put together over 100 kits that will be sent to IOCC for distribution in areas affected by hurricanes and other natural disasters. GOYA BIBLE STUDY AND BIBLE BOWL The Bible Study is for any GOYAN who wants to learn more about the Holy Scriptures. It is NOT just for Bible Bowl participants! We encourage all of our GOYA to take become active in learning about their faith. Come join in the discussion. Bible Study meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month from 7:00p-8:15p Please bring your Orthodox Study Bible WINTER YOUTH RALLY REGISTRATION FOR 2017 will be having a special GOYA meeting for parents and GOYANs on Wednesday October 4th from 7:00pm-8:15pm in order to discuss the registration process, cost, expectations and the need for parent volunteers. The Winter Youth Rally in Atlanta is scheduled as always from December 27th-December 30th. The Winter Youth Rally this year is open to youth in the 7th thru 12th grades. It is important for parents to attend this meeting if your child plans to participate in this years Winter Youth Rally It is hard to believe that it is already time to begin preparing for the Winter Youth Rally.
