Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Norwich The Trinity Tribune October 2017 Edition Let us commit ourselves, and one another, and our whole life to Christ our God! My Beloved Children, With a wonderful festival behind us we are now looking forward. We opened our parish home to the greater Norwich community and with great success, showed a united loving community under Christ. Due to circumstance, we have pushed the start dates of all of our ministries. For the most part they will begin the First week of October. However, registration has not increased at all for any of the programs. I know with the hustle of the festival and life in general, forms tend to get placed aside, but it is absolutely imperative that we have the registration forms given to us. Having a number of registered students or participants helps us better prepare for the ministerial year. I plead with you all, if you have children, sign them up for Sunday School. We have worked diligently to design and secure a beautiful curriculum. We also have Greek School, Bible Study, GOYA, JOY, HOPE, and Young Adult League. We would like to develop a senior citizens group, so please email or write a note to me directly indicating if you would be interested in this and another necessary group is a Dealing with Grief group. I am always available to hear your thoughts and opinions and ask that sharing them with me grows beyond a select few. To address this year s theme, Let us commit ourselves, and one another, and our whole life to Christ our God. This petition was the theme of the Metropolis of Boston Summer Camp. I loved how every lesson focused on committing ourselves to God. This is a Christian s responsibility. But, do we know what it entails? How do we go about doing this? Can I still be myself? I pray that this year we are able to participate in as many ministries that will help us answer these questions and more. The goal is for us all to take small steps up the ladder to Christ, we may slip or fall, but together, we can help guide and protect each other. Thus the Christian community as given to us by God. This year we will be about taking small steps forward toward Christ, to committing toward Him, His Word and Commands, and learning to be obedient to Him. In the process we will have opportunities to help ourselves and others while on this journey. I ask you to commit to this journey with me and the parish family. Join us as we shed off the old human and dress ourselves in the new human. Join us as we commit to Christ. With Love, Rev. Fr. Demetrios Panteloukas Αγαπητά μου τέκνα, Μετά το τέλος του θαυμάσιου φεστιβάλ μας, τώρα πλέον κοιτάμε μπροστά. Ανοίξαμε το ενοριακό μας σπίτι στην ευρύτερη κοινότητα του Norwich και με μεγάλη επιτυχία, δείξαμε μια ενωμένη και αγαπημένη κοινότητα υπό τον Χριστό. Λόγω των περιστάσεων, έχουν αναβάλλει τις ενάρξεις κάποιων απο των συλλόγων μας. Οι περισσότερες θα αρχίσουν την πρώτη εβδομάδα του Οκτωβρίου. Ωστόσο, οι εγγραφές δεν έχουν αυξαθει καθόλου. Ξέρω οτι ο καθένας έχει πολλές απασχολήσεις, είχαμε και το φεστιβάλ ταυτόχρονα και καμία φορά μπορεί να ξεχαστούν οι φόρμες εγγραφής, αλλα ειναι απολύτως αναγκαίο να επιστρέψετε τις φόρμες στο γραφείο μας. Όταν γνωρίζουμε τον αριθμό συμμετασχόντων τότε μπορούμε να προετοιμαστούμε καλύτερα. Σας ικετεύω, αν έχετε παιδια, να τα γράψετε στο Κατηχητικό. Δουλέψαμε σκληρά για να επιτυγχάνουμε ένα σωστό προγραμμα σπουδών. Επίσης, προσφέρουμε σχολείο Ελληνικών, Μελέτη Βίβλου, GOYA, JOY, HOPE και Ομάδα Εφήβων. Θα θέλαμε να πραγματοποιησουμε και ένα σύλλογο τρίτης ηλικίας, όποτε σας παρακαλούμε επικοινωνήστε μαζι μας μέσω email η αφήστε μου κάποιο σημείωμα στο γραφείο εάν ενδιαφέρεστε. Ακόμα ένα γκρουπ που θα θέλαμε να αρχίσουμε θα ήταν το "Αντιμετωπίζοντας την Θλίψη". Είμαι παντα διαθέσιμος να ακούσω τις σκέψεις και τις γνώμες σας και θα ήθελα πολυ να αυξηθεί ο αριθμός ατόμων οι οποίοι ισχύουν αυτήν την στιγμή. Ας συγκεντρωθούμε στο θέμα του φετινού έτους: "Εαυτούς και Αλλήλους και πασαν την ζωή ημων Χριστω τω Θεω παραθωμεθα". Αυτο ήταν το θέμα που αιτήθηκε στην Καλοκαιρινή Κατασκήνωση Μητροπόλεως Βοστώνης. Μου άρεσε πολυ που το κάθε μάθημα επικεντρωθηκε στην δέσμευση μας προς τον Θεό. Αυτή ειναι και η ευθύνη του κάθε Χριστιανού. Αλλα, ξέρουμε τι συνεπάγεται σε αυτο; πως το καταφέρνουμε; μπορώ ακόμα να είμαι ο ίδιος; Προσεύχομαι φέτος να έχουμε το κουράγιο να συμμετέχουμε στις εκκλησιαστικές μας υποχρεώσεις και να μάθουμε τις απαντήσεις των ερωτήσεων αυτών. Ο στόχος μας ειναι να κάνουμε μικρά βήματα να ανέβουμε την σκάλα προς τον Χριστό, και ας γλιστρήσουμε και ας πέσουμε, αρκεί μαζι να βοηθήσουμε και να προστατεύσουμε ο ένας τον άλλον. Να δεσμευτούμε απέναντι Του, τον λόγο Του και τις εντολές Του, και να μάθουμε να Τον υπακούμε. Στην πορεία, θα έχουμε την ευκαιρία να βοηθήσουμε τον εαυτό μας και άλλους. Σας ζητάω να δεσμευτείτε σε αυτο το ταξίδι μαζι μου και την οικογένεια ενοριτών μας. Ελάτε μαζι μας καθώς αποβάλλουμε τον παλιό άνθρωπο και φορούμε τον νέο άνθρωπο. Mission Statement The Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society, Inc., is the duly accredited women's philanthropic society of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. Holy Trinity is sponsoring the community meal for the needy at Lee Memorial Methodist Church. We have been invited to host the community meal that feeds the poor of Norwich. We need about 10-15 volunteers to staff the tables and kitchen and also donations for the food to be given out for approximately 75 needy people. The dates are: Sunday October 22, and Sunday, January 21, 2018. The latest we should be there is 12:00pm noon to begin serving at 1pm. Please contact Rev. Fr. General Assembly Announcement We will hold our Fall/Winter General Assembly on Sunday, November 5, 2017 immediately following Divine Liturgy. All are invited to come and observe. A reminder that participation in the General Assembly, according to the Uniform Parish Regulation, requires a member to be a current steward of the parish. Stewardship has never been easier here at Holy Trinity. If you have not submitted a stewardship pledge and information form yet, all you need to do is to submit it. Contact Fr. The ballot box will be open for 1 hour after Divine Liturgy (Approximately 11:30 am). To be eligible to vote in the Elections, as per the UPR, please ensure you are an active Steward of the parish. Greek School 1st Class meeting will be on Monday, October 2nd at 5 pm. This will be an informational class with limited study but some assessment of skills. Please attend if interested in coming to the Greek School. We will have registration forms and scholarship information. The meeting dates for October are: October 2, October 16, and October 23 (Mondays at 5 pm) Sunday School 1st day of classes is on October 1, 2017. If you have not registered don t worry. Register from now by submitting the registration forms. You can also attend with your child on October 1st or October 8th and fill out the registration form then. An opportunity for spiritual growth - Toiletry Drive Update We not only need donations of toilet paper, dental hygiene, and soaps and deodorants, our greatest need is.. Volunteers Examine within yourselves., and ask yourselves: Have I fed the hungry? Have I clothed the naked? Have I helped the least among my community? Would I like to encounter Christ?
