Page 10 Greek Dance & Cultural Arts School The new year started with a bang as our dance program participated in this year s FDF 2018 in San Francisco during the MLK Holiday. Our dancers and directors, with the love and support of their families and friends, showcased beautiful suites of dances and represented our parish on and off the stage with pride, grace, and dignity. FDF highlights include: Ta Patriotakia performed beautifully in the Division III exhibition category and danced with our Metropolitan. Mikra Asteria performed dances from the island of Naxos and from the village of Goumenissa, Macedonia. They received third place in Advanced Primary category. Ta Angeloudakia performed exquisite dances from the islands of Kos and Hios in the Advanced Junior category. Junior Olympians amazed us with their dance suites from the islands of Naxos and Limnos in the Intermediate category. Nea Ellas gave outstanding dance presentations from the villages of Petrota, Thrace and Asvestades, Thrace and won the Costume Award in Senior category. The Olympian Dancers received the Sweepstakes Award in the Advanced Senior category. Lexy Varonos received the Dean S. Phillips Memorial Scholarship among several other dancers who received scholarships. Dancers and their families participated in a Diakonia outreach project at FDF alongside other participants, packaging hygiene bags for the Compass Family Services. Several members of the Assumption community are part of the FDF Board of Trustees and Management Team which helped to make FDF 2018 a success. These individuals include: Spiro Beckas, Eleni Beckas, Michael Syrengelas, Voula Contos, Tia Karapoulios, Greg Karapoulios, Christine Alexopoulos, Anthony Bussa, and George and Vickie Demos. George Karidakis took footage of Assumption performances during the weekend for all to enjoy. Our appreciation to our Assumption community for your love and support. Glory be to God for this dance ministry! Wishing you all a Blessed and Great Holy Lent! Page 7
