CHURCH QUIET BAGS Families are encouraged to pick up a CHURCH QUIET BAG, available in the small room on the right side of the Narthex, for their youngest Holy Trinity parishioners. The bags include religious books and quiet activities that can help your children learn about the Orthodox faith, with your guidance, during Divine Liturgy. You are also encouraged to work with the young ones during the Liturgy by having them stand up for the processions, Epistle and Gospel readings, the Nicene Creed, and the Lord's Prayer, as well as kneel at the appropriate time. Engage them in looking at the icons and quietly remind them of what they see in Church. Please RETURN THE BAGS in their original condition to the room in the Narthex prior to Sunday Church School so that others can enjoy them the following Sunday. The CHURCH QUIET BAGS were lovingly donated by the Moustoukas and Peterson families and sponsored by the ECYM Committee. GREEK NIGHT IN OCTOBER The Order of St. Markella of Chios is sponsoring Greek Night on Saturday, October 22, 2016. A portion of the proceeds will benefit St. Jude Hospital. Please save the date! PHILOPTOCHOS MEETING Please note that the next Philoptochos meeting is Saturday, April 9, beginning at 10:30 am in the Coffee Room. Members are asked to make every effort to attend since this is the last meeting until September when regular business reconvenes. SPECIAL TRAY FOR HOLY CROSS Philoptochos will pass a special tray today that will benefit Hellenic College-Holy Cross. Please give generously. YOUTH HYMNOLOGY PROGRAM Parents, please mark two important Saturdays on your calendars. The Sunday Church School students have been practicing special hymns to chant in church during April and May, and their presence is needed on the following dates: April 23 9:00 am Saturday of Lazarus Service Rehearsal immediately after Divine Liturgy, followed by Communion Breakfast April 30 9:00 am SHARP! Students will chant the Hymn of the Three Youths, and teens will offer Bible readings. Students in 4th Grade and older are invited to sing with the adult choir on Sundays and Friday evenings, when mentors will assist them. They must arrive by 10:00 am on Sundays and by 7:00 pm on Fridays. There has been a positive response to this initiative. ALL CHILDREN OF THE COMMUNITY ARE WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE in any Sunday Church School and Hymnology activities. For more information, contact Viki Moustoukas, vmoustouka@aol.com. His Grace served as Holy Trinity Cathedral dean from October 1, 2011 - September 30, 2012, as well as Vicar of the Western Conference of the Metropolis of Atlanta during that time. On Saturday July 14, 2012, at a Special Assembly of Diocesan Priests, Bishop Gregory was nominated as successor to His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Amissos. On August 30, 2012, the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople canonically elected Bishop Gregory as Titular Bishop of Nyssa and ruling Diocesan Hierarch of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese of the U.S.A. After travelling to Constantinople and officially accepting the call of the Church to serve as Bishop during the Mega Minas service, he was consecrated as Bishop at Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. In July of 2013, in recognition of Bishop Gregory's experience in youth and young adult ministries, he was appointed by the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of North America as Episcopal Liaison to the Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) Pan-Orthodox College Ministry. It is with great joy that we welcome His Grace Bishop Gregory to New Orleans, where he is serving Liturgy today for the first time as a Hierarch. Please join Father George and the members of the Parish Council in welcoming His Grace during today s luncheon held in his honor. Eis Polla Eti Despota! It is the mid-point of the Great Fast and offers the faithful a glimpse of the reward for the struggles in their lives in Christ: Salvation. Our Lord made the ultimate sacrifice for us when He died upon the Cross, providing the way to Salvation through Him. The Cross is a central symbol of our Faith, and it is also a central component of the Archdiocese in the United States as our School of Theology is named for the Holy Cross. The Vision Statement for Holy Cross School of Theology is: To be the intellectual, educational, and spiritual formation center of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, stimulating, developing, and sustaining ordained and lay vocations for service to Church and society, based on faith. For seventy-nine (79) years, the seminary has been instrumental in providing well-educated priests for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, but also it has been a school where theologians and priests from other Orthodox Jurisdictions and Eastern Christian Churches have trained. Over the years, Holy Cross trained students from the following jurisdictions and Churches: Albanian, Antiochian, Bulgarian, Coptic, Church of Greece, Indian, Indonesian, OCA, Patriarchate of Jerusalem, Patriarchate of Moscow, ROCOR, Romanian, Russian, and Ukrainian. The Cathedral family is honored to have hosted His Grace Bishop Gregory, an esteemed graduate from our Seminary. But, we also hosted a group of students known as the Hellenic College-Holy Cross Ambassadors, who were invited to our Parish for this weekend s Family and Conference GOYA Retreat and to assist in the District Oratorical Festival yesterday. Their purpose is to serve to inspire, enthuse, and challenge Orthodox Christians of all ages to enhance their lives in Christ through nationwide ministry. The Ambassadors also help raise awareness of the programs and ministries available in both the fully accredited undergraduate school Hellenic College and the graduate program at Holy Cross. Three of the thirteen HCHC Ambassadors were with us this weekend: Claire Barden, a sophomore from Raleigh, North Carolina, studying Literature and History at Hellenic College; Cassandra Garibaldi, a 7-year student from Lowell, Massachusetts, who graduated from Hellenic College with a Religious Studies degree and is about to complete the Master of Divinity degree at Holy Cross; and Alexander Kamilaris, a graduate of Hellenic College from Raleigh, North Carolina, who received a degree in Human Development and a minor in Religious Studies. He is currently a first year seminarian at Holy Cross. At the end of Liturgy today, a second tray will be passed as we celebrate the Veneration of the Holy Cross. This special collection will benefit the ministries of Holy Cross School of Theology HEY! It s an AHEPA CRAWFISH BOIL - MEMBERSHIP DRIVE Sunday, April 10 4:00 pm Cathedral Grounds followed by a short meeting All present members, past members, and those interested in joining are invited to attend.

THE EPISTLE St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 4:14-16, 5:1-6 Save, O Lord, your people and bless your inheritance. To You, Lord, have I cried O my God. BRETHREN, since we have a high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness. Because of this he is bound to offer sacrifice for his own sins as well as for those of the people. And one does not take the honor upon himself, but he is called by God, just as Aaron was. So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, "Thou art my Son, today I have begotten thee"; as he says also in another place, "Thou art a priest for ever, after the order of Melchizedek." THE GOSPEL Mark 8:34-38, 9:1 The Lord said: "If anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? For what can a man give in return for his life? For whoever is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of man also be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels." And he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power."
