And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. And they were amazed and wondered, saying, "Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? 4 Th e G o s p e l Ac c o r d i n g t o Jo h n 7 : ; 8 : 1 2 O n the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and proclaimed, "If any one thirst, let him come to me and drink. He who believes in me, as the scripture has said, 'Out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water.'" Now this he said about the Spirit, which those who believed in him were to receive; for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. When they heard these words, some of the people said, "This is really the prophet." Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "Is the Christ to come from Galilee? Has not the scripture said that the Christ is descended from David, and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David was?" So there was a division among the people over him. Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him. The officers then went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, "Why did you not bring him?" The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this man!" The Pharisees answered them, "Are you led astray, you also? Have any of the authorities or of the Pharisees believed in him? But this crowd, who do not know the law, are accursed." Nikodemos, who had gone to him before, and who was one of them, said to them, "Does our law judge a man without first giving him a hearing and learning what he does?" They replied, "Are you from Galilee too? Search and you will see that no prophet is to rise from Galilee." Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." 5 PROM CLOTHING DRIVE Since 2015 LifeWorks Street Outreach has hosted a prom for youth and young adults experiencing homelessness. This year s theme is Full Moon Masquerade, and prom will take place on July 11 th. In order to make this event as special as possible, LifeWorks is collecting prom clothing and jewelry! All dresses, shoes, suits, jewelry, etc. welcome! Collection bins will be located in Mt. Tabor Hall through June 30 th. Look for the bins in Mt. Tabor Hall and please bring your items by Sunday, June 30th. Bringing Your Brokenness Open to individuals and couples, meetings are held bi-monthly on Thursday evenings at 6:30pm. Our goal is to provide a loving Orthodox Christian atmosphere for support, accountability, study, and discussion, with the ultimate goal of restoring our souls and bodies to the image and likeness of God. Our next meeting will be June 27, and we will be continuing our study of Time and Despondency: Regaining the Present in Faith and Life by Nicole Roccas. August 6 is our Holy Feast Day! It s the Feast of the Transfiguration, and we hope that all camp families will attend this special divine liturgy and the luncheon afterwards! The Orthodox Church is not in sacramental communion with any other church outside the Orthodox Christian Faith. 8 GREEK ORTHODOX ARCHDIOCESE OF AMERICA 8-10 East 79th St. New York, NY * Tel: (212) Fax: (212) communications@goarch.org Archbishop Elpidophoros to be Enthroned June 22 in New York His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America will be enthroned as the seventh Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America on Saturday June 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Manhattan (337 East 74th Street, NYC). Archbishop Elpidophoros was elected unanimously by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople, on May 11, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has appointed as His Personal Representative for the Enthronement, Metropolitan Augoustinos of Germany, who will enthrone the new Archbishop of America. The Enthronement of Archbishop Elpidophoros has attracted worldwide interest and it will be attended by many dignitaries from the political, diplomatic, academic and the business world, as well as religious leaders, community and organization representatives, and clergy and laity from around the country and around the world. The Service will be broadcast live and made available through satellite and the internet at The Enthronement ceremony will be followed by an Enthronement Luncheon at 1:30 p.m. at the New York Hilton Hotel (1335 Avenue of the Americas, NYC). Archbishop Elpidophoros will arrive at JFK airport, in the evening of Wed., June 19. The next morning, Thurs., June 20, 2019 he will arrive at the headquarters of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and will be welcomed by the staff of the Archdiocese. His Eminence will then offer a Doxology service at the Archdiocese Chapel of Saint Paul, followed by a meeting with the Hierarchs, members of the Holy Eparchial Synod of America and the Auxiliary Bishops of the Archdiocese. The same evening, he will attend a reception and dinner with the Priests and Presvyteres of the Direct Archdiocesan District, the Hierarchs of the Archdiocese and the Patriarchal representatives. On Friday, June 21, at 10:30 a.m., Archbishop Elpidophoros will hold a Press Conference at the Headquarters of the Archdiocese. Afterwards he will attend a welcome lunch in his honor with New York City Religious Leaders, hosted by Rabbi Arthur Schneier. On Sunday, June 23, the day after the Enthronement, His Eminence will preside for the first time as Archbishop at the Hierarchal concelebration of the Divine Liturgy with all the Metropolitans, members of the Holy Eparchial Synod. The Orthros Service at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, will begin 8:30 a.m. and the Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m., followed by an Agape reception at the adjacent Cathedral Center.
