3 Epistle - St. Paul's Letter to Titus 2:11-14; 3:4-7 Prokeimenon. Mode 4. Psalm ,1 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Verse: Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His mercy endures forever. The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to Titus 2:11-14; 3:4-7 T ITUS, my son, the grace of God has appeared for the salvation of all men, training us to renounce irreligion and worldly passions, and to live sober, upright, and godly lives in this world, awaiting our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of the great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all iniquity and to purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of deeds done by us in righteousness, but in virtue of his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit, which he poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that we might be justified by his grace and become heirs in hope of eternal life. John would have prevented him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now; for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he consented. And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him; and lo, a voice from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased." The Orthodox Church is not in sacramental communion with any other church outside the Orthodox Christian Faith. 8 Bringing Your Brokenness Open to individuals and couples, meetings will be held bi-monthly on Thursday evenings at 6:30pm. Our goal is to provide a loving Orthodox Christian atmosphere for support, accountability, study, and discussion, with the ultimate goal of restoring our souls and bodies to the image and likeness of God. Our next meeting will be January 10, at which time we will be wrapping up our study of Defeating Sin and preparing to move to our next book Time and Despondency: Regaining the Present in Faith and Life by Nicole Roccas. Each year since 1977, the Society awards scholarships to qualified high school seniors, undergraduate and graduate full-time students. Over the years, more than one hundred fifty scholarships have been awarded. Applicants are eligible for a scholarship if they: 1) Currently attend or have been accepted to a college or university in Texas, 2) Have shown excellent scholastic performance in their corresponding field of study, and 3) Are of Hellenic heritage The Society also accepts applications from students of non-greek descent that have demonstrated clear, strong and sustained excellence in academic studies related to Greek letters or affairs. There are no Sunday School classes today, Sunday, January 6, so that students can experience the Blessing of the Waters. Students are invited to get unlit candles in the narthex after receiving Holy Communion, and to come up to the solea as the Blessing begins. We will light the candles as they approach. They will hold candles and process with the priests and deacons, for Epiphany is the Festival of Light. As Holy Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist said, "whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace." (Luke 1:78-79)
