Τὸ φαιδρὸν τῆς ἀναστάσεως κήρυγμα, ἐκ τοῦ Ἀγγέλου μαθοῦσαι αἱ τοῦ Κυρίου Μαθήτριαι, καὶ τὴν προγονικὴν ἀπόφασιν ἀποῤῥίψασαι, τοῖς Ἀποστόλοις καυχώμεναι ἔλεγον Ἐσκύλευται ὁ θάνατος, ἠγέρθη Χριστὸς ὁ Θεός, δωρούμενος τῷ κόσμῳ τὸ μέγα ἔλεος. Κανόνα πίστεως καὶ εἰκόνα πραότητος, ἐγκρατείας διδάσκαλον, ἀνέδειξέ σε τῇ ποίµνῃ σου, ἡ τῶν πραγµάτων ἀλήθεια διὰ τοῦτο ἐκτήσω τῇ ταπεινώσει τὰ ὑψηλά, τῇ πτωχείᾳ τὰ πλούσια, Πάτερ ἱεράρχα Νικόλαε πρέσβευε Χριστῷ τῷ Θεῷ, σωθῆναι τὰςψυχὰς ἡµῶν Κοντάκιον. Προγόνων Χριστοῦ, τὴν μνήμην ἑορτάζομεν, τὴν τούτων πιστῶς, αἰτούμενοι βοήθειαν, τοῦ ῥυσθῆναι ἅπαντας, ἀπὸ πάσης θλίψεως, τοὺς κραυγάζοντας ὁ Θεὸς γενοῦ μεθ' ἡμῶν, ὁ τούτους δοξάσας ὡς ηὐδόκησας. Resurrectional Apolytikion Tone 4. When the women Disciples of the Lord had learned from the Angel the joyful message of the Resurrection and rejected the ancestral decision, they cried aloud to the Apostles triumphantly: Death has been despoiled, Christ God has risen, granting His great mercy to the world For the Holy Woman. Tone 4. You carried within your womb her who was pregnant with Life, * the Mother of God, O godlyminded Anna; and thus * to heaven were you today * transported with great rejoicing, where those who feast dwell in glory. * You pray for the forgiveness of offenses for the faithful * who honor you with longing, O ever-blessed one. Parish Hymn Tone 4. A rule of faith are you, and an icon of gentleness, and a teacher of self-control. And to your flock this was evident, by the truth of your life and deeds. You were humble and therefore you acquired exalted gifts, treasure in heaven for being poor. O Father and Hierarch St. Nicholas, intercede with Christ our God, and entreat Him to save our souls. Today we observe the memory of Christ's forebears, * and also we pray that we might receive their aid, * so that all of us may be freed from tribulations, as we cry aloud, * "Be with us, O Lord our God, * who glorified them as You were pleased to do."

Ἀλλ' ὁ μὲν ἐκ τῆς παιδίσκης κατὰ σάρκα γεγέννηται, ὁ δὲ ἐκ τῆς ἐλευθέρας διὰ τῆς ἐπαγγελίας. Ἅτινά ἐστιν ἀλληγορούμενα αὗται γάρ εἰσιν δύο διαθῆκαι μία μὲν ἀπὸ ὄρους Σινᾶ, εἰς δουλείαν γεννῶσα, ἥτις ἐστὶν Ἅγαρ. Τὸ γὰρ Ἅγαρ Σινᾶ ὄρος ἐστὶν ἐν τῇ Ἀραβίᾳ, συστοιχεῖ δὲ τῇ νῦν Ἱερουσαλήμ, δουλεύει δὲ μετὰ τῶν τέκνων αὐτῆς. Ἡ δὲ ἄνω Ἱερουσαλὴμ ἐλευθέρα ἐστίν, ἥτις ἐστὶν μήτηρ πάντων ἡμῶν γέγραπται γάρ, Εὐφράνθητι, στεῖρα, ἡ οὐ τίκτουσα ῥῆξον καὶ βόησον, ἡ οὐκ ὠδίνουσα ὅτι πολλὰ τὰ τέκνα τῆς ἐρήμου μᾶλλον ἢ τῆς ἐχούσης τὸν ἄνδρα. Εpistle Lesson: Gal. 4:22-27 Brethren, Abraham had two sons, one by a slave and one by a free woman. But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, the son of the free woman through promise. Now this is an allegory: these women are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children for slavery; she is Hagar. Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; she corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children. But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother. For it is written, "Rejoice, O barren one who does not bear; break forth and shout, you who are not in travail; for the children of the desolate one are many more than the children of her that is married." Εὐαγγελίον: Ματ ηʹ 28-34, θʹ 1 Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, ἐλθόντι τῷ Ἰησοῦ εἰς τὴν χώραν τῶν Γεργεσηνῶν ὑπήντησαν αὐτῷ δύο δαιμονιζόμενοι ἐκ τῶν μνημείων ἐξερχόμενοι, χαλεποὶ λίαν, ὥστε μὴ ἰσχύειν τινὰ παρελθεῖν διὰ τῆς ὁδοῦ ἐκείνης. καὶ ἰδοὺ ἔκραξαν λέγοντες Τί ἡμῖν καὶ σοί, Ἰησοῦ υἱὲ τοῦ Θεοῦ; ἦλθες ὧδε πρὸ καιροῦ βασανίσαι ἡμᾶς; ἦν δὲ μακρὰν ἀπ' αὐτῶν ἀγέλη χοίρων πολλῶν βοσκομένη. οἱ δὲ δαίμονες παρεκάλουν αὐτὸν λέγοντες Εἰ ἐκβάλλεις ἡμᾶς, ἐπίτρεψον ἡμῖν ἀπελθεῖν εἰς τὴν ἀγέλην τῶν χοίρων. καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ὑπάγετε. οἱ δὲ ἐξελθόντες ἀπῆλθον εἰς τὴν ἀγέλην τῶν χοίρων καὶ ἰδοὺ ὥρμησεν πᾶσα ἡ ἀγέλη τῶν χοίρων κατὰ τοῦ κρημνοῦ εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν, καὶ ἀπέθανον ἐν τοῖς ὕδασιν. οἱ δὲ βόσκοντες ἔφυγον, καὶ ἀπελθόντες εἰς τὴν πόλιν ἀπήγγειλαν πάντα καὶ τὰ τῶν δαιμονιζομένων. καὶ ἰδοὺ πᾶσα ἡ πόλις ἐξῆλθεν εἰς συνάντησιν τῷ Ἰησοῦ, καὶ ἰδόντες αὐτὸν παρεκάλεσαν ὅπως μεταβῇ ἀπὸ τῶν ὁρίων αὐτῶν. Καὶ ἐμβὰς εἰς πλοῖον διεπέρασεν καὶ ἦλθεν εἰς τὴν ἰδίαν πόλιν. Gospel Reading: Mt. 8:28-34, 9:1 At that time, when Jesus came to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes, two demoniacs met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one would pass that way. And behold, they cried out, "What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?" Now a herd of many swine was feeding at some distance from them. And the demons begged him, "If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of swine." And he said to them, "Go." So they came out and went into the swine; and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and perished in the waters. The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, and what had happened to the demoniacs. And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their neighborhood. And getting into a boat he crossed over and came to his own city.

It s because our life will be changed when we give Sunday after Sunday after Sunday, not worried about what we give, but that we give. There is something spiritual that happens when we pass the tray from one person to another. There is something to be gained by releasing from our hands and putting into the hands of others. There is the possibility to be moved by the person seated next to us, but it can only happen when we give of ourselves. Only one offering tray will be passed for the needs of our parish during Sunday Service. There will be a tray in the Narthex if you wish to make an additional contribution. We ask that you continue to give generously, as you have in the past. We thank you!

8 S T E W A R D S H I P True Stewardship is giving back to Christ s Church a percentage of your financial resources in proportion to the blessings you have received for the perpetuation of God s work. In the biblical view, Stewardship means faithfully managing all of the resources that God has entrusted to us and using them for the glory and betterment of God s creation. At Saint Nicholas, we believe that good stewardship is central to our spiritual journey and to our relationship with God and our community. The amount each family or individual gives will be different, because of their resources. Please give in proportion to what you have been given; but give sacrificially. Stewardship pledging is a response to God s call to good stewardship. Your pledge amount is dependent upon your personal awareness of the needs of the church and the importance of the church s role in the world. It is a statement of thanksgiving for the abundance in our own lives. Annual stewardship pledges are essential to fund everything we do and are at Saint Nicholas: managing our operating budget and maintaining our beautiful church. Stewardship also helps support the efforts of our mission and ministries. You may fulfill your stewardship pledge in as many payments as you wish throughout the year. There is a misconception that it must be paid in one lump sum. You may pay your stewardship pledge by check, cash or electronically; weekly, monthly or yearly. Luke 16:11. Remember this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. Each person should do as he has decided in his heart not reluctantly or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7.
