1 AHEPA Family Annual Scholarship: Two scholarships are awarded at $1000 each. Applicants must be of Greek descent. The first scholarship is awarded to a student currently in their first year at a university or community college (if you are currently in your last year of high school, please wait until next year to apply). The second scholarship is awarded to a student continuing his/her graduate studies at a university or community college (currently at least in second year and may be a post-graduate student). Ανακοινώσεις Η Νεολαία γιορτάζει την 25 η επέτειο υπηρεσίας τού πατρός Αλέξανδρου στον ναό μας Γιορτασμός Αποκριάς: ΣΗΜΕΡΑ Για να δοθεί η ευκαιρία και στους νέους να γιορτάσουν την 25 η επέτειο υπηρεσίας τού πατρός Αλέξανδρου στην Κοινότητά μας, ο Ελληνικός Αθλητικός Σύλλογος Οττάβας, το χορευτικό συγκρότημα «Οδύσσεια» και η GOYA διοργανώνουν μία ημέρα ψυχαγωγίας, ως συνέχεια της εκδήλωσης Silver Gala. 3 Announcements Apokries Winter Carnival & Youth celebration with Fr. Alex - TODAY Please join us for a continuation of Fr. Alex's 25th anniversary gala event sponsored by the HCO. Today following Divine Liturgy, our Community is offering complimentary juices, coffee and tea during Coffee Hour with Fr. Alex in our Banquet Centre, as the Ottawa Hellenic Athletic Association (OHAA) in partnership with the Odyssey Dance Troupe and GOYA are proud to present the Apokries Winter Carnival. Join us for an outdoor Carnival day with music and games including soccer, toboggan pull, jenga and obstacle course. Create your team with friends and family of all ages for friendly competition. The entrance fee is $5 per person with a minimum of 4 people per team, proceeds going to HCO Youth initiatives. There will be prizes for the best themed team, winning teams and more! Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.' 5 «Nα είστε ήρεμοι και να γνωρίζετε ότι ο Θεός είμαι εγώ» (Ψαλμός 46: 10) Αυτά τα θαυμάσια λόγια μπορούμε να φέρνουμε στο νου μας κάθε μέρα κατά τη διάρκεια της πολυάσχολης ζωής μας λόγια που θα μπορούσαν να σημαίνουν ότι πρέπει να είμαστε ήρεμοι, στον κόσμο αυτόν που ζούμε, αλλά μπορεί να σημαίνουν και κάτι ακόμα πιο βαθύ. Μπορεί να σημαίνουν ότι είναι δυνατόν ο άνθρωπος, ενώ εργάζεται, συναναστρέφεται με άλλους ή ψυχαγωγείται, να έχει εσωτερική γαλήνη. Είναι σημαντικό να έχει κανείς ένα ήσυχο μέρος όπου θα μπορεί να ξαποσταίνει στη μέση των καθημερινών του δραστηριοτήτων ένα μέρος όπου ο Θεός θα είναι παρών ένα μέρος όπου θα μπορεί να αναπαυτεί, για λίγο, και όπου θα μπορεί να ακούει το Θεό να του μιλάει και να επικοινωνεί μαζί του έστω και με «ψιθυριστή φωνή». Συχνά προσπαθούμε να κάνουμε, με βιασύνη, πολλά πράγματα μαζί, να βρισκόμαστε παντού χωρίς εσωτερική κατεύθυνση σίγουροι για τον εαυτό μας κάτι που κάνει τους άλλους να ανησυχούν για εμάς. Αν, όμως, είμαστε ήρεμοι μπορεί ο Θεός να μας καθοδηγήσει στα έργα και τις πράξεις μας. Πώς μπορούμε να βρούμε αυτή την ηρεμία; Μέσα από κάθε προσευχή που θα επιλέξουμε ίσως από ένα βιβλίο προσευχής ή ίσως από την «Προσευχή του Ιησού» που ο Απόστολος Παύλος μας συμβουλεύει να λέμε αδιάκοπα: «Κύριε Ιησού Χριστέ, Υιέ του Θεού, ελέησόν με, τον αμαρτωλό» Βρες ένα ήσυχο μέρος στο σπίτι ή τη δουλειά σου, κλείστε την πόρτα, για μερικά λεπτά, κλείσε τα μάτια και επανέλαβε, αργά, την προσευχή που θα βοηθήσει το μυαλό σου να μην παρεκτρέπεται. Έτσι θέτεις τον εαυτό σου στη διάθεση του Θεού που είναι, πάντα, «Παρών» σε όλους μας. Όμως όταν ως άνθρωπος αφήνεις να σε κυριαρχήσει ο εγωισμός αδυνατείς να δώσεις προσοχή σε οτιδήποτε άλλο εκτός από τον εαυτό σου. Σκέψου, ακόμα, και το άλλο ότι ο Θεός είναι συνεχώς παρών στη φύση στην ομορφιά ενός ηλιοβασιλέματος αλλά και στην ηρεμία ενός ηλιόλουστου πρωινού. Μάθε να διατηρείς την ηρεμία σου. Προσευχήσου, επανειλλημένα και με τον καιρό θα βρεις ειρήνη και αρμονία. Θα νιώθεις λιγότερη απογοήτευση απ τους ανθρώπους που θα συναντάς και θα έχεις μεγαλύτερη απoδοχή από τους γύρω σου. Ξεκίνα να προσεύχεσαι έτσι μία, και κατά προτίμηση, δύο φορές τη μέρα μία το πρωί και μία το βράδυ. Θα χρειαστεί λιγότερη ώρα από ό,τι να διαβάσεις μια σελίδα εφημερίδας, να ελέγξεις τα ηλεκτρονικά σου μηνύματα ή το Facebook. Δοκίμασέ το για ένα χρονικό διάστημα και θα δεις τι θα συμβεί. Η προσευχή είναι σαν οτιδήποτε άλλο κάνουμε στη ζωή. Χρειάζεται πειθαρχία. Σύντομα θα καταλάβεις ότι η προσευχή δεν είναι μόνο η επικοινωνία σου με το Θεό. Είναι και το ότι, με την προσευχή, μεταφέρεσαι μπροστά Του και ακούς τη φωνή του που σου μιλάει ψιθυριστά. Θα μάθεις ότι αυτός είναι ένας τρόπος για μεγαλύτερη ειρήνη και χαρά. Και θα ανακαλύψεις ότι το Πνεύμα του Θεού κατοικεί, πραγματικά, και στη δική σου την καρδιά. "Be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10) These are wonderful words to take with us into our busy days. On one level they could be just about being quiet and still in our distracted world or they might mean something much deeper. They may mean that it might be possible to find that special inner stillness while we carry on business, organize meetings or just enjoy leisure activities. It is important to keep a quiet place in the midst our daily activities. A place where God can dwell and simply be present to us. A place where we can go to rest and hear his "still small voice" communicating to us. We often try to do all things, be all things, often in a hurry without much inner direction, unsure of ourselves and often making others feel apprehensive. But if we are quiet and still, God can be our gentle guide in everything we say and do. How do we find that stillness? Through any quiet prayer you choose, perhaps from a prayer book or perhaps the Jesus Prayer which St. Paul, in the New Testament, instructs us to pray unceasingly: Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, the sinner. Find a quiet place in your home or business, shut the door for a few minutes, sit absolutely still with your eyes gently closed and slowly repeat your prayer, which helps to keep your mind from wandering. When we do this we are placing ourselves in the presence of God. God is present to us all of the time, but being human we can be so dominated by our egos that we fail to pay attention to anything but ourselves. When you stop and think about it, God is also continually present to the world in nature; in the beauty of a sunset or the quiet of a beautiful sunny morning. So keep absolutely still, repeat your prayer continuously and in time you will find greater peace and harmony and less frustration with people you meet and greater acceptance of your surroundings. Start by doing this at least once, but preferably twice a day; in the morning and evening. It will take less time than reading a page of the newspaper or checking your s or Facebook. Try it for a period of time and see what happens. Prayer is like anything else we do in life; it takes discipline. We soon find out that prayer is not only just a matter of talking to God, but prayer is primarily being in His presence and listening for that "still small voice". You will learn that this is a way to deeper peace and joy. And you will discover that the Spirit of God really does dwell in your heart.
