Father Nick will serve our community from April 11 through April 20, and will return for services on April 27. AGAPE SERVICE READERS NEEDED The passage from the Gospel of St. John 20: will be read in various languages during the Agape Vespers celebrated on Pascha Sunday, April 20, at 11:00 am to show that the good news of Christ s saving Resurrection is for all people in the world. Father Nick Spirakis looks forward to having as many languages as possible during this service and encourages anyone interested in reading the Gospel in a different language to contact the Cathedral office at to give Vickie your name and the language you wish to read.. 2 CALLING ALL GREEK FESTIVAL VOLUNTEERS! It s not too early to Stacy at festival@holytrinitycathedral.org or call her at and sign up as a volunteer. Lots of workshops are underway, or soon to be scheduled, and extra hands are always welcome. And, don t forget to ask your family and friends to join as well. FESTIVAL PASTRY WORKSHOPS Pastry preparations for the 2014 Greek Festival will continue this Tuesday, April 8, and Wednesday, April 9, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. Lunch will be provided. Workshops will be every Tuesday and Wednesday, except Holy Week, and everyone is asked to help. PRE-FESTIVAL PASTRY SALE ON PALM SUNDAY The Greek Festival Pastry Committee is offering parishioners an opportunity to purchase select pastry items on Palm Sunday, April 13. They include the following items: Frozen ALMOND ROLLS $12 per dozen Frozen SPANAKOPITES $12 per dozen Frozen TIROPITES $12 per dozen KOULOURAKIA $6 per dozen Also, traditional PASCHA TSOUREKIA (Easter Sweet Bread) will be baked on Holy Wednesday, April 16, and picked up at the conclusion of the Holy Unction service. You may place your order by calling Stacy on Tuesdays or Thursdays at or by contacting one of the Pastry Chairpersons during the weekly Tuesday and Wednesday Greek Festival Pastry Workshops. BATON ROUGE GREEK FESTIVAL Don t miss the festivities on Saturday, May 10, 2014, from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm, Belle of Baton Rouge Atrium. Plenty of Greek cuisine, music, dancing, and crafts. Free admission with nonperishable food item or $1 donation at door. For updates, please check YOUTH HYMNOLOGY PROGRAM During April Sunday School students will continue learning the Easter hymn "Christos Anesti - Christ is Risen!" They will practice making the sign of the cross with their candles as they chant this hymn. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to also practice with the children. Hymnology instruction for all Sunday School students begins immediately after Communion in the upstairs classroom area. Mark your calendar for the 150 th Anniversary Celebration Weekend events October 10-12, GREEK SCHOOL PASCHA SCHEDULE Both adult and youth Greek School classes will break for Pascha. There will be no sessions from Saturday, April 12, through Sunday, April 20. Classes will resume on Monday, April 21. LECTURE SERIES The Dennis A. Georges Lecture in Hellenic Culture will present University of Cincinnati Professor Jack L. Davis on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at 7:00 pm. His lecture, Reconstructing Early Modern Landscapes of 18 th Century Greece: Messenia from Ottoman and Venetian Sources, will be given in Stone Auditorium (Woldenberg Art Center 210) and be followed by a reception in Woodward Way. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact PHILOPTOCHOS MARDI GRAS BEADS FOR ARC Philoptochos and GOYA are collecting Mardi Gras beads. Probably, the very best way to recycle your beads is to let them help others through ARC of Greater New Orleans. ARC uses donated beads and other parade items in its vocational training program. ARC is a local non-profit that provides opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to develop and live to their fullest potential. The nonprofit serves about 1000 adults and children in the New Orleans area. ARC packages and sells the donated beads and other throws to float-riders next year. The collection box for donated beads is in the Coffee Room. POT LUCK LENTEN DINNER Everyone who attended the Pot Luck Dinner on Friday, April 4, following the Service of the Akathist Hymn enjoyed a delicious Lenten meal. Many thanks to everyone who participated. Our special appreciation is extended to Mary Kontos and Helen Malachias for planning the event. PASCHA AZALEAS Enclosed please find a form for purchasing potted azaleas in honor or in memory of someone. The cost is $10 per plant. Completed forms and payment must be returned to the Cathedral office no later than Tuesday, April 15, NAMES FOR COMMEMORATION ON HOLY FRIDAY Following the Apokathelosis Service on Holy Friday afternoon, Father Nick will read the names for the souls of those who have fallen asleep in the Lord. Please list your names on the enclosed form and return it to the Cathedral office on or before Holy Friday, morning April 18, 2014.

THE EPISTLE St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 9:11 14 BRETHREN, when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the Holy Place, taking not the blood of goats and calves but his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. For if the sprinkling of defiled persons with the blood of goats and bulls and with the ashes of a heifer sanctifies for the purification of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? THE GOSPEL Mark 10:32 45 At that time, Jesus taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, saying, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him to the Gentiles; and they will mock him, and spit upon him, and scourge him, and kill him; and after three days he will rise." And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to him, and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you." And he said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?" And they said to him, "Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory." But Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?" And they said to him, "We are able." And Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized; but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared." And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant of James and John. And Jesus called them to him and said to them, "You know that those who are supposed to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
