Suhayda Nick Harisiadis, Protopsaltis THOUGHTS AND THANKS Our celebration of Pascha is a celebration of the most important and most joyful event in the history of the world. CHRIST IS RISEN! is the first Pistevo, the first confession of Christian faith and message of our salvation! So much is needed for the celebration of Pascha in our Orthodox Church: the planning, the ordering of supplies, the setting up, the flowers, the chanting, the ushers and the workers. It is only fitting that we should thank the many persons who helped make our Easter celebration so wonderful (in advance, we apologize for any names which have been inadvertently omitted): Fr. George Lamberis and Deacon John Suhayda for their understanding, cooperation and anticipation of our liturgical needs; to our chanters: Nick Harisiadis, Loukas Pergantas, Dino Houpis and all the chanters and readers who assisted. Thanks to our custodians, Juan and Carolina, and a special note of gratitude to Nick Andrews for attending all the weekday services and for his help with the countless special needs and setting up for Holy Week; we also thank our wonderful Philoptochos Society for assisting with the ushering, and all the ladies who helped with special collections; to Mrs. Voula Andrews and the ladies who helped with decorating the Epitafio Kouvouklion so beautifully! We also thank Voula and everyone who donated for decorating the icons and the church during the Fridays of Great Lent (στους Χαιρετισμούς), as well as Holy Week and Pascha, and a BIG THANK YOU to all the ladies who dyed all those red eggs! We also express our appreciation to the PTA Presidents Anna Sikoral and Kathy Ioannidis and the officers and members who offered the wonderful Palm Sunday Luncheon; to our Sunday School director Presvytera Georgia and our dedicated Sunday School teaching staff for hosting our Saturday of Lazaros Project and making the palm crosses, and for the Holy Friday Family Retreat; to Mrs. Rita Petratos for the Easter candy bags at the Agapi service, and to those ladies who helped minister to senior citizens at the Greek American Nursing Home. Finally, let us remember our church office staff, Mrs. Barbara Skaouris and Mrs. Sandy Grivas for their hard work and patience; our Parish Council President Mr. Perry Giannopoulos and all the officers and members, Usher Chairman Nick Andrews and all our ushers, the young adults, Steve Funteas, the Myrofores and those who carried the Epitafion; our altar boys especially the boys who faithfully come when they are scheduled not only during Holy Week but throughout the year, and to all who donated time, Easter needs and financial support; we thank you ALL and pray that the joy and love of the Resurrected Lord fill your hearts and lives always!

ΝΑ ΖΗΣOYN! ROW BY ROW When you come forward to receive Holy Communion, please let the ushers direct you. Because many people receive the Holy Eucharistic every Sunday, the ushers will ask you to approach the Holy Chalice row by row in order to have a more peaceful and spirit-filled experience. We thank you for your cooperation! HOW TO RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION Orthodox Christians in good standing are encouraged to receive Holy Communion frequently, provided they have prepared themselves spiritually, mentally and physically. They must be on time for the Divine Liturgy, and be in a Christ-like, calm state of mind. They should be in a confession relationship with their priest or spiritual father, and they should have selfexamined their conscience. On the day of receiving Holy Communion, it is not proper to eat or drink anything before coming to church. When you approach to receive Holy Communion, state your Christian (baptismal) name clearly, and hold the red communion cloth to your chin. After receiving, wipe your lips on the cloth, step back carefully, hand the cloth to the next person and make the sign of the Cross as you step away. Please take special care not to bump the Holy Chalice. IOCC s ANNUAL BANQUET! The Annual IOCC Banquet will take place on Thursday, May 11 th at the Café La Cave in Des Plaines. This annual fund-raiser enables the IOCC to provide food and medicines to people in need around the world; in these troubled and dangerous times, the work of the IOCC is needed more than ever. For reservations please call our church office. Please support this Banquet! MEMORIAL DAY PICNIC will take place on Monday, May 29 at Flick Park in Glenview. We welcome all families to join us for games food and fun! Bring your picnic basket and plan to have a wonderful time! OUR BIG GREEK FOOD FEST OF NILES will take place July this summer, and planning has already begun. Of course, we will need much help; new ideas and new people are always welcomed! DONATION BOX We are grateful to all of you who have placed contributions in the donation box in the narthex. These contributions are used to help people who come to us and need financial help. You have helped many people! There continue to be many people in need; your continued support is greatly appreciated. METROPOLIS JUNIOR OLYMPICS Youth 7 to 18 years of age are encouraged to participate in the 2016 Junior Olympics. Save the dates May 26 to May 28. REGISTRATION ENDS April 30!

4 Ἀπόστολος καὶ Εὐαγγέλιον τῆς Ἡμέρας ΑΠΟΣΤΟΛΟΣ Πράξεις ιβ 1-11 Κατ ἐκεῖνον δὲ τὸν καιρὸν ἐπέβαλεν Ηρῴδης ὁ βασιλεὺς τὰς χεῖρας κακῶσαί τινας τῶν ἀπὸ τῆς ἐκκλησίας. Ἀνεῖλε δὲ Ιάκωβον τὸν ἀδελφὸν Ιωάννου μαχαίρᾳ. Καὶ ἰδὼν ὅτι ἀρεστόν ἐστι τοῖς Ιουδαίοις, προσέθετο συλλαβεῖν καὶ Πέτρον ἦσαν δὲ αἱ ἡμέραι τῶν ἀζύμων ὃν καὶ πιάσας ἔθετο εἰς φυλακήν, παραδοὺς τέσσαρσι τετραδίοις στρατιωτῶν φυλάσσειν αὐτόν, βουλόμενος μετὰ τὸ Πάσχα ἀναγαγεῖν αὐτὸν τῷ λαῷ. Ὁ μὲν οὖν Πέτρος ἐτηρεῖτο ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ προσευχὴ δὲ ἦν ἐκτενὴς γινομένη ὑπὸ τῆς ἐκκλησίας πρὸς τὸν Θεὸν ὑπὲρ αὐτοῦ. Οτε δὲ ἔμελλεν αὐτὸν προάγειν ὁ Ηρῴδης, τῇ νυκτὶ ἐκείνῃ ἦν ὁ Πέτρος κοιμώμενος μεταξὺ δύο στρατιωτῶν δεδεμένος ἁλύσεσι δυσί, φύλακές τε πρὸ τῆς θύρας ἐτήρουν τὴν φυλακήν. Καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄγγελος Κυρίου ἐπέστη καὶ φῶς ἔλαμψεν ἐν τῷ οἰκήματι πατάξας δὲ τὴν πλευρὰν τοῦ Πέτρου ἤγειρεν αὐτὸν λέγων Ἀνάστα ἐν τάχει. Καὶ ἐξέπεσον αὐτοῦ αἱ ἁλύσεις ἐκ τῶν χειρῶν. Διελθόντες δὲ πρώτην φυλακὴν καὶ δευτέραν ἦλθον ἐπὶ τὴν πύλην τὴν σιδηρᾶν τὴν φέρουσαν εἰς τὴν πόλιν, ἥτις αὐτομάτη ἠνοίχθη αὐτοῖς, καὶ ἐξελθόντες προῆλθον ῥύμην μίαν, καὶ εὐθέως ἀπέστη ὁ ἄγγελος ἀπ αὐτοῦ. Καὶ ὁ Πέτρος γενόμενος ἐν ἑαυτῶ εἶπε νῦν οἶδα ἀληθῶς ὅτι ἐξαπέστειλε Κύριος τὸν ἄγγελον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξείλετό με ἐκ χειρὸς Ηρῴδου καὶ πάσης τῆς προσδοκίας τοῦ λαοῦ τῶν Ιουδαίων. Ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἐὰν μὴ ἴδω ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτοῦ τὸν τύπον τῶν ἥλων, καὶ βάλω τὸν δάκτυλόν μου εἰς τὸν τύπον τῶν ἥλων, καὶ βάλω τὴν χεῖρα μου εἰς τὴν πλευρὰν αὐτοῦ, οὐ μὴ πιστεύσω. 5 Epistle and Gospel Readings for Today EPISTLE READING Acts 12:1-11 About that time Herod the king laid violent hands upon some who belonged to the church. He killed James the brother of John with the sword; and when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread. And when he had seized him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out to the people. So Peter was kept in prison; but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the church. The very night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison; and behold, an angel of the Lord appeared, and a light shone in the cell; and he struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, Get up quickly. And the chains fell off his hands. And the angel said to him, Dress yourself and put on your sandals. And he did so. And he said to him, Wrap your mantle around you and follow me. And he went out and followed him; he did not know that what was done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision. When they had passed the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate leading into the city. It opened to them of its own accord, and they went out and passed on through one street; and immediately the angel left him. And Peter came to himself, and said, Now I am sure that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people were expecting. GOSPEL READING John 20: On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, Peace be with you. When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you. And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained. Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, We have seen the Lord. But he said to them, Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and place in my finger the mark of the nails, and place my hand in His side, I will not believe. Eight days later, his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you. Then He said to Thomas, Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing. Thomas answered Him, My Lord and my God! Jesus said to him, Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe. Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
