Hasker Morris, a certified trainer, is on hand for the one hour session. All parishioners and friends are welcome to join. VESPERS FOR ORTHODOXY SUNDAY Father George will give the Vespers Service homily tonight at St. Basil Antiochian Church in Metairie. The service begins at 5:00 pm and will be followed by a reception. Plan to attend. THE SUNDAY OF ORTHODOXY ICON March 1, 2015, is the Sunday of Orthodoxy when the faithful celebrate the restoration of the icons in our churches and for our private devotional life. The Archives Committee is having a small exhibit of icons that represent the many different national origins within our community. The icons are loaned to us for this special occasion by Holy Trinity congregants. This exhibition also celebrates the Sunday of Orthodoxy by representing the unity of our Orthodox Christian faith around the world. The exhibit is available for viewing in the Coffee Room after Divine Liturgy during the coffee hour. FAMILY LENTEN RETREAT SAVE THE DATE All Holy Trinity Families are Invited! STEWARDSHIP SUNDAY MARCH 8, 2015 Chairperson Paul Andersson will give a brief presentation on the 2015 Stewardship Campaign at end of church services next Sunday. A tray will be passed to collect 2015 Commitment Cards, which will then be blessed by Father George. Stewardship packets were mailed to each home this week but some are also available in the Narthex. Please take time to complete your form and submit it today.

GREEK FESTIVAL PASTRY WORKSHOPS Greek Festival Pastry Workshops are back in full swing. Please come help on Tuesday, March 3, and Wednesday, March 4, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. Lunch is provided. HOLY WEEK-EASTER BOOKS A new shipment of Holy Week-Easter books has arrived. They are published in the original Greek with a new modern English translation on the opposing pages. Each is $25 and may be purchased from the Cathedral office or in the Narthex from a Parish Council member. HTC YOUTH SOCCER SESSIONS The next spring session for HTC Youth Soccer is this Friday, March 6, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Please note the time change due to Lenten church services. HTC COMMUNITY WIDE FOOD DRIVE Philoptochos is sponsoring an HTC Community wide food drive. The holidays are over, but hunger is not. The most essential items are canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned meat (tuna, chicken, beef), canned soup, cereal, pasta, and rice. There is a collection bin in the Coffee Room. In Celebration of Greek Independence March 25, 1821 HTC PTA cordially invites you to the GREEK INDEPENDENCE DAY PROGRAM Sunday, March 22, 2015 following Divine Liturgy Hellenic Cultural Center Lenten Appetizers and Lunch, Drink, and Dessert will be served. GREEK SCHOOL MARCH 22 CELEBRATION Stacy Rico will teach Greek folk dances today, Sunday, March 1, at 12:00 pm to the children, who are participating in the March 22 Celebration. Also, the Greek School students will practice their lines for the school skit. Please note that the 12:00 pm Greek class IS NOT cancelled. It will begin at 1:00 pm. Additional FULL CAST rehearsals will take place on the following dates: Sunday, March 8 at 12:00 pm Sunday, March 15 at 12:00 pm Saturday, March 21 at 11:00 am Parents are asked to bring their children and to please try not to miss any of the scheduled rehearsals. 3 DONATIONS NEEDED FOR GREAT LENT SERVICES The floral decorations that adorned the Panagia icon during the first Salutations to the Theotokos this past Friday were generously donated by Eleni and George Kampitsis. The Cathedral family sincerely thanks them for their consideration. The office has received commitments for this Friday, March 6, and the last Friday, March 27. However, please consider contributing icon flowers for the remaining Salutation service scheduled March 13. Father George will be out of town on March 20; there will be no service that Friday. Other items required for Great Lent Services include 300 flowers for the Sunday of the Veneration of the Holy Cross March 15 (you may donate a portion of this amount), incense, and charcoal. Contributions for these items are most welcomed. You may contact the Cathedral office at to make your donation. HTC WELCOMES UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY VISITORS Dr. Karen O. Skaff, a professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences in the College of Health Sciences at the University of Kentucky, accompanied thirty students to New Orleans this weekend. The purpose of the visit was to provide a community engagement opportunity for the students, who will soon become the physicians, dentists, physical therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals of the future. These students worked together in teams to conduct oral health screenings, nutrition education and obesity prevention, and physical activities designed specifically for the small children their parents, and teachers at the James Singleton Child Development Center in New Orleans East, the largest community health center facility in the city with approximately 112 children aged 3 to 5 years. Community health centers are non-profit, communitydirected, and federally designated healthcare providers serving more than 22 million Americans. These centers have become a vital portal for healthcare and education for the medically underserved, high-risk, and uninsured populations in the United States. Accompanying the students with Course Director Dr. Skaff are Dr. David Skaff, Pediatric Dentist; Dr. Somu Chatterjee and Peter Berres, faculty at UK; and Maya Redzic, clinical nutritionist and doctoral student at UK. In addition to broadening the students perspectives of serving this underprivileged population at the community center, this visit was intended to introduce the UK students to the rich historical and cultural traditions of New Orleans. The students were lodged at the Jackson Barracks in the Ninth Ward; toured Jackson Square, St. Louis Cathedral, and the French Quarter and Market; and enjoyed a streetcar ride uptown on St. Charles Avenue. The group also included their attending Divine Liturgy at Holy Trinity Cathedral and viewing the Pan Orthodox Icon Exhibit prepared by the Archives Committee before departing for Kentucky. The Holy Trinity Cathedral family wholeheartedly welcomes them today. Message from Father George S T E W A R D S H I P Recently, the 2015 Stewardship packets were mailed to your homes. Stewardship is the method by which we as Christians fund the operation of our Church. Over twenty years ago, our Archdiocese began encouraging the parishes to see Church funding in a different light. We are encouraged to change our understanding of supporting our Church from dues paying members to stewards, who provide for the everyday needs of the Church through their Stewardship. Therefore, we must change how we speak. Please understand that we do not pay dues to our Church as we would to any secular club or organization. Our Stewardship is a response by each and every one of us to give back to God from the gifts with which He has blessed us. Stewardship reflects how people of Faith have responded to their relationship with God, and it is not a new concept. In the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy 16:17, the people of God were instructed: All must give as they are able, according to the blessings given to them by the Lord your God. We respectfully ask you to review your giving over the past year to your Spiritual Home, Holy Trinity Cathedral. Perhaps, we can look at the words from Deuteronomy as a challenge to see if our annual giving to the Church really reflects our appreciation for the blessings that we have received in our lives, according to our ability. Next Sunday, March 8, is Stewardship Sunday. If you have not already had the opportunity to send your 2015 Commitment Card to the Cathedral office, please bring it with you next Sunday and place it in the offering tray. IONIAN VILLAGE 2015 Ionian Village summer camp programs are open to teenagers, who have completed grades 8 through 12. The sessions allow campers to experience life in a fully Orthodox environment as they travel to historic churches and religious sites across Greece. The Orthodox Faith is at the heart of the Ionian Village program. For more information, visit Session 1 is June 22 - July 11 and Session 2 is July 19 - August 7. THE EPISTLE Hebrews 11:24-26, Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our fathers. Verse: For you are just in all you have done Brethren, by faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, choosing rather to share ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets -- who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, received promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched raging fire, escaped the edge of the sword, won strength out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign enemies to flight. Women received their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, that they might rise again to a better life. Others suffered mocking and scourging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword; they went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, ill-treated -- of whom the world was not worthy -- wandering over deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. And all these, though well attested by their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had foreseen something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect. THE GOSPEL John 1:44-52 At that time, Jesus decided to go to Galilee. And he found Philip and said to him, "Follow me." Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael, and he said to him, "We have found him of whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!" Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the son of God! You are the King of Israel!" Jesus answered him, "Because I said to you, I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You shall see greater things than these." And he said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man."
