6 March 2015 Dear Parents Greetings from the Playschool. We welcome everyone back and hope you all had a fulfilling Midterm break. We are now entering the second half of our first term which promises to be eventtful, inspiring, busy and exciting. Parents please refer to our weekly Newsletter in this regard. Sit back and enjoy the world through your little one s eyes and experience their wonderment. We commenced with Baker s Day this morning and our little ones had great fun selling and tasting the different treats. Please remember that every Friday a child from each class will supply his/her class with a tray of eats. He/she will be the baker and will have the responsibility of selling these off. The baker will also be managing the cash register and will ensure that everyone pays for their treat. The shoppers will be provided either with tokens or coins to facilitate their buying. This is the rudiments of economics. Parents there will be Baker s Day lists outside each class, please refer to these to establish when your child s Baker s Day is.
REQUESTS (These are ongoing) 1. Moms and Dads should you be unable to pick up your children at Going Home Time, please notify the school and let them know of your alternative arrangements. A simple phone call to Denise will eliminate embarrassment, stress and confusion for the teacher, child, parent and adult fetching. 2. Moms please ensure that nails are kept short. Little ones at this stage often resolve their differences by scratching and thus the necessity to keep their nails neatly trimmed. Toddlers respond to difficulties instinctively and we provide support to the transgressor and the injured party. As a staff we employ different methods when addressing this issue and try our utmost to educate our learners with respect to conflict resolution. As our Little one s mature and their language abilities grow so will their ability develop, to settle their differences amicably. 3. Moms and Dads please ensure your children wear comfortable shoes to school. Their little feet need firm support. Little ones need to explore their environment and negotiate the climbing apparatus without being encumbered by inappropriate clothing and shoes. Tackies and sandals with a back strap are ideal for this purpose. Slip slops compromise freedom of movement and can be slippery. 4. Inappropriate pristine, designer clothing, tight jeans and other uncomfortable items of clothing can also limit movement and learning, we therefore ask you to be mindful of how you dress your little ones in the morning. Please allow your children to get dirty. Attire that is stained and looks well-worn at the end of the day is a sign of learning and fun. Paint stains can be removed from clothing by rubbing sunlight soap on the stain and leaving to soak overnight before washing. Alternatively, when stains are very stubborn, Handy Andy can be used. We therefore recommend that all children wear their older clothes to school to avoid tears and frustration in the event of mishaps. 5. Should your child be off colour, vomiting, have a fever, earache, diarrhoea, infected nose and coughing please keep them at home as they will have a miserable day at school and infect others. 6. Please apply sun block every morning before coming to school. 7. Please be aware of our times, DROP OFF time is from 7h40 8h20. Dropping off timeously, allows them to settle into the routine easier and it is recommended that you say good bye without lingering. Lingering creates uncertainty and prolongs the agony of saying good bye. After the Midterm break we will be asking all parents who are late in the mornings to allow Denise to take their children to class. This will facilitate the smooth running of our daily programme and allow all the little ones to focus in the rings without interruptions. PICK-UP time is from 13h30 14h00, Wednesday from 13h15-13h30. Please do not fetch your children earlier as it is disruptive. If you do need to fetch earlier please notify your child s teacher to make an arrangement.
CONSIDERATIONS WHILST DRIVING ON THE SCHOOL PROPERTY Please buckle your children in when DRIVING, they should not be allowed to move freely around in the car. Your child s safety is a priority. Please do not speed on the school grounds. Please be vigilant of children when reversing out of the parking. Please refrain from using your cell phones whilst driving. Please be courteous to other users of the school i.e. parents, visitors and children. Remember YOUR CHILD IS OUR FUTURE! P.T.A. VENTURES LAMBATHES EASTER CANDLES Lambathes are special candles for Easter, which are given to children as gifts by their parents and godparents. These candles are used for Midnight Mass on the Saturday night when we celebrate the resurrection of Christ. Soon each child will receive an order form for Lambathes, allowing you to make a choice from a beautiful selection of candles, varying in price. Details regarding this venture will follow shortly. GREEK NATIONAL DAY WEDNESDAY 25 MARCH In 1821 the Greeks secretly conspired to liberate themselves from Ottoman oppression, which they had endured for four centuries. They engaged in numerous, valiant battles on land and at sea and eventually managed to drive out their enemy. The Greeks reclaimed Greece and they were free to fly their blue and white flag with pride and children could attend school freely and were no longer compelled to quietly attend classes at night. People were free to practise their traditional activities without any fear of reprisal. The bravery of our heroes and people, who courageously and fearlessly strove for the independence of Greece is celebrated annually. At the Playschool we will be celebrating this auspicious day in our Perception Area with stories about our great heroes and songs. Art Work and Baking will also be included to reinforce the theme of the week. On Wednesday 25 March, school will be closing early, details to follow. There will be Aftercare.
