Safety issues remain to be a concern for the roofer and the Parish Council. Once again, parishioners are asked to be mindful of the construction area, the dangers it entails, and the necessity for limiting access to the facilities while the roofers are working. As a community please follow this request until all the scheduled repairs are completed. DAUGHTERS BAKE SALE All parishioners are reminded that the Daughters of Penelope are now accepting orders for their annual Advance Order Bake Sale. All orders must be submitted no later than November 18. Available to order are koulouria by the dozen, gift boxed baklava or finikia, and assorted boxes that include baklava, finikia, and kourabiedes. Orders will be ready for pick up on Sunday, December 8. Please submit your orders as soon as possible. The next Daughters membership meeting will be Sunday, October 20, 2013. GREEK SCHOOL UNDERWAY The 2013-2014 adult and youth Greek School programs, under the direction of Fay Kalergi, have witnessed an increase in enrollment. If you are uncertain of this year s schedule, please check below for appropriate listings. Adults: Intermediate Level Monday evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Adults: Beginning Level Wednesday evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Children: Saturday mornings from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm AND Sunday afternoon from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm Please note that the children s Sunday Greek School session is scheduled weekly except the last Sunday of each month when PTA hosts the HTC Family Day-Birthday Celebration. For this reason, there will be NO Greek School next Sunday, September 29, 2013. ICONOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS CONCLUDED Elias Damianakis from New Port Richey, Florida, conducted iconography workshops for both the adults and the youth of Holy Trinity during the past three days. Workshop participants actually learned to write icons, which are on display in the Hellenic Cultural Center. Everyone is invited to attend the reception and exhibit in the gymnasium that will follow today s Divine Liturgy. The community thanks Mr. Damianakis for sharing his knowledge and talents during this cultural exchange. KEEP THE HELLENIC CULTURAL CENTER CLEAN In a continued effort to keep the Hellenic Cultural Center clean and organized, the Cathedral office asks each parishioner to conscientiously pick up after himself/herself following receptions, meetings, or other gatherings. Food, drink, and disposable containers must be placed in the garbage and not left on tables and furniture. Set an example for the children as well and help them learn that these unattended items bring unwelcome multi-legged guests to the facility. Your cooperation is deeply appreciated.

BIBLE STUDY Bible Study with Father Maximos began this past week and will continue each Wednesday evening from 6:15 pm to 7:00 pm. The topic is the Gospel of St. Matthew with the class picking up where it left off in the spring. Those interested in attending the discussions are encouraged to join the group, regardless of whether or not they participated last year. PHILOPTOCHOS CANNED GOOD DRIVE Philoptochos has learned that a family is in need of canned goods. If you would like to donate canned goods, you may bring them to the collection bin in the Coffee Room. Thank you. GARAGE SALE Philoptochos is making plans for the annual Garage Sale on October 5 and 6. Thanks to all those who have offered their cars and vans and brought items to the hall. More help is needed. If you are able to volunteer a truck or van to transport these items, you may contact Garage Sale Chairman Elaine Nugent at 504-909-3543. SENIOR CITIZENS LUNCHEON Over fifty Senior Citizens enjoyed the first luncheon of the season. Our sincere appreciation to Margo Stamoulis for sponsoring the luncheon in memory of her parents Mary and Isidoros Stamoulis. Many thanks to our cooks, John Koniditsiotis, Alex Tiliakos, and Nick Kleamenakis, who prepared a delicious fare. The approaching fall season was an influence on the choice of orange and green colors in the floral arrangements and table décor prepared by Cathy Vial. Everyone had a good time playing bingo after the meal. Our next Senior Citizens Luncheon will be on Thursday, October 17. We appreciate our sponsors for the October luncheon Patrick Latour, Marcella Orkoulas, and Sophie Theodoron. PHILOPTOCHOS COME AND SEE DINNER TICKETS Tickets for the Philoptochos fundraiser are now available. Your donation of $55 per person will afford you an evening of unique tablescapes, Greek appetizers, a delicious Greek buffet, and the excitement generated by the Silent Auction. Wine will be sold by the glass or the bottle. Plan now to attend this gala, which is one of two annual fundraisers that sustain the worthy philanthropic projects of Philoptochos. To secure your reservations, contact Ticket Chairpersons Diane Chronis at 985-674-2687 or Koula Vennis at 504-282-2670. SILENT AUCTION The deadline to submit Silent Auction items is fast approaching, and yet many gifts are still needed to make this endeavor successful. The Philoptochos Board asks each Philoptochos member to obtain at least one auction item or gift certificate for the upcoming fundraiser. Assistance from Holy Trinity parishioners, who wish to contribute to this project, is most welcome. Please turn in your donations to Auction Chairperson Helen Malachias by October 1. Your participation is greatly appreciated. H Y M N O L O G Y I N S T R U C T I O N New Sunday School Program on Its Way Hymnology Instruction, which was added to the 2013-2014 Sunday School curriculum, has received a positive response. Each month students of all ages will learn a liturgical hymn. "Se Imnoumen We Praise You is being taught first. This is the most sacred hymn of the Divine Liturgy. As the congregation kneels, the Holy Spirit descends to transform the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Please note that immediately after Holy Communion, the Sunday School staff directs all Sunday School students to the gymnasium or Coffee Room. Once seated the students chant the selected hymn in Greek and English and receive a brief explanation of its meaning. The session takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Afterward, the teachers escort the students to the classrooms for their lessons. Your support and cooperation is deeply appreciated. If you have any questions, please contact Viki Moustoukas vmoustouka@aol.com. GOYA BAKE SALE TODAY Please support the GOYA Annual Fall Bake Sale by purchasing some sweet treats today, Sunday, September 22, 2013, after church services. The youth of Holy Trinity Cathedral need your help to raise money that will be used to cover team registration fees at the upcoming Winter Youth Rally in Atlanta, Georgia. A selection of goodies will be located in the foyer of the Hellenic Cultural Center. See you there! Resurrection Apolytikion Tone 4 Having learned the joyful proclamation of the Resurrection from the Angel and having cast off the ancestral condemnation, the women disciples of the Lord spoke to the Apostles exultantly: Death is despoiled, and Christ God is risen, granting great mercy to the world. Apolytikion of St. Phocas the Holy Martyr Tone 4 As a sharer of the ways and a successor to the throne of the Apostles, O inspired of God, thou foundest discipline to be a means of ascent to divine vision. Wherefore, having rightly divided the word of truth, thou didst also contest for the Faith even unto blood, O Hieromartyr Phocas. Intercede with Christ our God that our souls be saved. Apolytikion of the Holy Trinity Plagal Tone 4 Blessed are You, O Christ our God, who made fishermen all-wise, sending upon them the Holy Spirit and, through them, netting the world. O Loving One, glory to You. Kontakion Tone 2 Protector of Christians, champion undefeated, mediator most sure with our creator, disregard not the voice of prayer of sinners, but come quickly in your goodness, to help us who cry out to you with faith: Be swift to intercede, make haste to supplicate, O Theotokos, protector always of those who honor you.

THE EPISTLE I Corinthians 16:13-24 O Lord, how manifold are your works. You have made all things in wisdom. Verse: Bless the Lord, O my soul. BRETHREN, be watchful, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love. Now, brethren, you know that the household of Stephanas were the first converts in Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the service of the saints; I urge you to be subject to such men and to every fellow worker and laborer. I rejoice at the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicos, because they have made up for your absence; for they refreshed my spirit as well as yours. Give recognition to such men. The churches of Asia send greetings. Aquila and Prisca, together with the church in their house, send you hearty greetings in the Lord. All the brethren send greetings. Greet one another with a holy kiss. I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. If any one has no love for the Lord, let him be accursed. Our Lord, come! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you. My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen. THE GOSPEL Luke 5:1-11 At that time, Jesus was standing by the lake of Gennesaret. And he saw two boats by the lake; but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. And when he had ceased speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch." And Simon answered, "Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets." And when they had done this, they enclosed a great shoal of fish; and as their nets were breaking, they beckoned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord." For he was astonished, and all who were with him, at the catch of fish which they had taken; and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon.
