CHURCH SCHOOL ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PAGEANT The Church School staff is preparing for the annual Christmas Pageant and is excited in bringing together the Church School students for the performance. As it is important for all HTC youth to attend services and Church School every Sunday, parents are asked that their child/children attend at least 4 SUNDAY CHURCH SCHOOL CLASSES between now and Sunday, December 4, in order to be eligible for one of the primary roles and/or reading parts. Also, this year the Church School staff is stressing the importance of all children attending the full pageant rehearsals to become familiar with THE SONGS, WHERE TO STAND, and THE OVERALL PROGRAM. The schedule for this year is as follows: Sunday, November 6 begin rehearsing songs Sunday, December 4 select names for primary roles and readers Sunday, December 11 full rehearsal during Sunday Church School Saturday, December 17 full rehearsal immediately following Communion Breakfast If you have any questions, please contact Christina Kogos at cmkogos2@aol.com. The staff looks forward to having all of the children participating and making this another beautiful Christmas celebration for the community. SPECIAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY All members in Good Standing are encouraged to attend the Special General Assembly in the Coffee Room today, Sunday, October 9, 2016, immediately after Divine Liturgy. The purpose of the meeting is to vote whether to authorize purchase of the house and property at 1314 Robert E. Lee Boulevard. SUNDAY FELLOWSHIP COFFEE HOUR SPONSORS The Cathedral family thanks Billie and Paul Andersson, who volunteered to sponsor the October Sunday Fellowship. November will be sponsored by the Daughters of Penelope; however, December is still available for sponsorship "adoption." If you wish to volunteer for some or all of December, please contact Maria Anastasiou at 504-456-1780. Message from Father George HURRICANE MATTHEW Our Metropolis is right in the path of one of the worst storms to hit the United States mainland in many years. With this in mind, our Chancellor, Father George Tsahakis issued the following letter on behalf of His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios. Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, While many outside of our coastal areas are pursuing their daily lives in normal fashion, those in the path of Hurricane Matthew have been monitoring its projected route with fear and uncertainty. As they hear their state governors declare states of emergency, they hurriedly have been gathering what supplies they can before evacuating their homes and businesses. And, those who have encountered this powerful storm already are faced with beginning afresh to repair and rebuild after the damage it wrought in the Bahamas, Haiti, and elsewhere. As we confront this force of nature, may our minds and hearts guide us in responding with fervent prayers in behalf of our brothers and sisters, whose lives are now affected in adverse and challenging ways. Many of us are blessed to be far away from harm s way. As such, perhaps we could welcome a friend or relative to seek refuge with those of us in safer areas. After natural disasters, we have come to depend on our emergency providers and Philoptochos Society to mobilize rescue services and seek funds to help others. Maybe, we can contemplate before the storm ways we can respond if the worst scenarios take place. What resources can we plan to share, and what words and support can we offer to comfort and console those fleeing the normal safety of their homes? Although most of us are at a safe distance from the massive rains, flood, and winds, I am encouraged to learn many of you have paused throughout today to make telephone calls of support. I have sought to reassure our faithful that His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios and our office are here to assist and, especially, to offer our heart-felt appeals for God s providential care and mercy. Please let us know what needs may exist during or after the storm passes. Our love knows no boundaries, and while our Metropolis of Atlanta appears to be in the worst path, there are many who have lost their lives and so many who have lost their homes and businesses. Let us pray for them and help them as best as we can. O Lord, bless Your people and bestow Your mercy and comfort to all in the path of Hurricane Matthew. May we find peace and safety as You wrap us with Your love. Give us strength and show us Your path. Take us into Your arms and bless us as You embraced children when You visited us on earth. Hear our collective prayers and ever remind us that You are always with us as we seek to love You and serve You. Through the prayers of the Theotokos and all the saints, we beseech Your mercy. Amen. Faithfully yours, +Fr. George Tsahakis, Chancellor

H O L Y T R I N I T Y C A T H E D R A L Next Sunday, October 16, is a special day when Holy Trinity Cathedral will celebrate Youth Sunday. The parish designated the day as an opportunity for the Church School students to reflect on the importance of being involved in the Liturgy, as well as taking on leadership roles as ushers, readers, and choir. Church School families are asked to sit in the front right pews of the Cathedral so that the students can sing and participate in the hymns lead by the choir. The choir will sit in the front left pews of the Cathedral as they lead the congregation in the singing during the Liturgy. The congregation is asked to please sing along with the choir and the students. An Artoclasia will be celebrated for the health of all that are affiliated with the Religious Education programs in the parish. Also, the dedication ceremony for the Epiphany Plaque, which recognizes the Cross Retrievers and Dove Bearers of each year, will take place at the end of the Divine Liturgy. Moreover, the Coffee Fellowship will be hosted by the Church School students. Please plan on staying and allow the students to serve you while taking time for fellowship with each other.

THE EPISTLE 2 Corinthians 6:16-10 The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace. Bring to the Lord, O you sons of God, bring to the Lord the sons of rams; bring to the Lord glory and honor. Brethren, working together with him, then, we entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says, "At the acceptable time I have listened to you, and helped you on the day of salvation." Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. We put no obstacle in any one's way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, tumults, labors, watching, hunger; by purity, knowledge, forbearance, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything. THE GOSPEL Luke 7:11-16 At that time, Jesus went to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him. As he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large crowd from the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep." And he came and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother. Fear seized them all; and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has arisen among us!" and "God has visited his people!"
