St. Luke the Evangelist This Apostle was an Antiochean, a physician by trade, and a disciple and companion of Paul. He wrote his Gospel in Greek after Matthew and Mark, after which he wrote the Acts of the Apostles, and dedicated both works to Theophilus, who, according to some, was Governor of Achaia. He lived some eighty-six years and died in Achaia, perhaps in Patras, the capital of this district. His emblem is the calf, the third symbolical beast mentioned by Ezekiel (1:10), which is a symbol of Christ s sacrificial and priestly office, as Saint Irenaeus says. *** Άγιος Λουκάς ο Ευαγγελιστής Ο Άγιος Λουκάς ο Ευαγγελιστής καταγόταν από την Αντιόχεια της Συρίας και η εθνικότητα του ήταν Ελληνική. Είναι ο συγγραφέας του ομώνυμου Ευαγγελίου και των Πράξεων των Αποστόλων, βιβλία τα οποία περιλαμβάνονται στην Αγία Γραφή. Ήταν γιατρός στο επάγγελμα, όμως γνώριζε πολύ καλά τη ζωγραφική τέχνη. Μάλιστα σε αυτόν αποδίδονται οι πρώτες εικόνες της Θεοτόκου με τον Ιησού Χριστό βρέφος στην αγκαλιά της (μία υπάρχει μέχρι σήμερα στη Μονή του Μεγάλου Σπηλαίου), καθώς και αυτές των Αποστόλων Πέτρου και Παύλου. Ο Λουκάς είναι ο μοναδικός ευαγγελιστής ο οποίος υπήρξε εθνικός, και αυτό συνάγεται από το γεγονός ότι μνημονεύεται στο Κολ. 4,10-11 ξεχωριστά από τους άνδρες της περιτομής, δηλαδή τους Ιουδαίους. To accommodate all of our young parishioners, and make it easier for families who have children of mixed ages, we have decided to run these programs together. Dec 13 th Christmas Celebration: Communion Breakfast In conjunction with the PTO celebration, please join us for breakfast, a craft and a surprise visit. Jan 8 th It s a Playdate! Get away from winter blues and meet up with some of your friends from the church. Location TBD (Tentative idea: Bounce Factory, Imagine That Museum, Roller Skating). Feb 5 th Share some Love: Come bake and decorate cookies for Valentine s day that will be shared with the local nursing home. March 19 th - Spring is coming. Join us for a fun day at the park and mini golfing. (TBD based on weather) Colonial Park - mini golf and park playdate April 17 th - Join us after church where Father Nick will tell the children about the Easter Holiday and Traditions. After we will decorate Easter eggs and there may even be a surprise visit. On Sunday, October 25th, the Macedonian Association of NJ Alexander the Great will be celebrating the Liberation of Thessaloniki from the Ottomans (October 26, 1912) and the Feast Day of our Patron Saint Demetrios. Also, we will be commemorating the Historic Day of October 28, 1940, (the first day of Greece s resistance to the Nazi powers). The Divine Liturgy will be followed by Doxology and Artoklasia. We invite everyone to the Flag raising ceremony outside and the fellowship/coffee hour which will conclude the festivities. Charles is the Director of the Department of Interfaith Marriage of our Archdiocese. Fr. Charles is a brilliant theologian, a very caring and compassionate priest and a very good friend of mine. STEWARDSHIP There continues to be many families, individuals, and young adults over the age of 18 who are gainfully employed, that have not made a Stewardship commitment to St. George. Therefore, these families, individuals and young adults are considered as Non-Stewardship supporters of the Church and parish. Because of their lack of support, the burden of keeping the doors of the Church open, falls on those of us who have made a financial commitment. For those who have not made your Stewardship commitment to St. George, I pray that the Lord will enlighten your heart and open your mind to realize how important it is for all of us to support our Church. Ιωαννίδης είναι Διευθυντής του Τμήματος Διαθρησκευτικών Γάμων της Αρχιεπισκοπής μας, καθώς και εξαίρετος θεολόγος, συμπονετικός ιερέας και πολύ καλός μου φίλος. Θα πρέπει να είμαστε όλοι πολύ περήφανοι που ο π. Ιωαννίδης είναι μέλος της Αρχιεπισκοπής μας. Ας καλωσορίσουμε τον π. Ιωαννίδη με θέρμη και ας του δείξουμε την Ελληνική μας φιλοξενία!
