We are Called to Bear Fruit At the Last Supper as we read in Chapter 15 of the Gospel of John Jesus instructed His disciples I Am the Vine; you are the branches. He was telling us that the purpose of our abiding in Him is that we may bear fruit for God in the world. By this My Father is glorified that you bear much fruit (John 15:8). Just as the vine bears fruit only through its branches so Jesus has chosen to work in the world through us. We are the members of His body the branches through which the Vine must bear fruit. We bear fruit when we serve and support God and His Church. November 25 2012
Sunday November 25 2012 Hymns Following the Gospel (Small Entrance) Apolytikion Apoluti/kion O Merciful One You came from on high and condescended to Your three day burial to save us from suffering. You are our Life and our Resurrection. Glory to You. Apolytikion Today is the prelude of God's pleasure and the proclamation of man's salvation. The Virgin is clearly made manifest in the temple of God and foretells Christ to all. Let us also cry out to her with mighty voice "Hail fulfillment of the Creator's dispensation." Apoluti/kion Apolytikion Let us praise the most auspicious bride of Christ the divine Katherine protectress of Sinai our aid and our help. For she brilliantly silenced the eloquence of the impious by the sword of the spirit and now crowned as a martyr she asks great mercy for all. Apolytikion for St. Vasilios Your message was carried throughout the world. As it received your mighty word By which you divinely made manifest And clarified the nature of existing things You set in order the customs of men You who are royal priesthood! Psalm 67.3526 God is wonderful among his saints. Verse: Bless God in the congregations. St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 3:23-29; 4:1-5 BRETHREN before faith came we were confined under the law kept under restraint until faith should be revealed. So that the law was our custodian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come we are no longer under a custodian; for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek there is neither slave nor free there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's then you are Abraham's offspring heirs according to promise. I mean that the heir as long as he is a child is no better than a slave though he is the owner of all the estate; but he is under guardians and trustees until the date set by the father. So with us; when we were children we were slaves to the elemental spirits of the universe. But when the time had fully come God sent forth his Son born of a woman born under the law to redeem those who were under the law so that we might receive adoption as sons. 13th Sunday of Luke The Gospel of Luke 18:18-27 At that time a ruler came to Jesus and asked him "Good Teacher what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" And Jesus said to him "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery Do not kill Do not steal Do not bear false witness Honor your father and mother.' " And he said "All these I have observed from my youth." And when Jesus heard it he said to him "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; and come follow me." But when he heard this he became sad for he was very rich. Jesus looking at him said "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Those who heard it said "Then who can be saved?" But he said "What is impossible with men is possible with God." 4 What does Christian Stewardship mean at St Vasilios? Until that blessed day arrives Orthodox Christians who are in good sacramental order are only permitted to receive Holy Communion in the Orthodox Church. If you have any questions or concerns please speak with Father Chris. HOSPITAL VISITS Salem Hospital is making a change in order to be in compliance with new privacy laws.
