Ἀνάστασιν Χριστοῦ θεασάμενοι.. «Ἑορτή τῶν ἑορτῶν» καὶ «πανήγυρις τῶν πανηγύρεων» εἶναι γιὰ τὴν Ἐκκλησία μας ἡ Ἀνάσταση τοῦ Χριστοῦ. Ἡ «μία τῶν Σαββάτων» δὲν εἶναι ἁπλὰ ἡ ἀφετηρία μιᾶς καινούριας ἑβδομάδας, ἀλλὰ τὰ ἐγκαίνια τῆς νέας κτίσεως, ἡ ἀρχὴ ἑνὸς καινούριου κόσμου. Ἡ Κυριακή τῆς Ἀνάστασης τοῦ Κυρίου μας εἶναι ὁ ἀργαλιὸς ποὺ πάνω του ὑφαίνει ἡ Ἐκκλησία μας ὁλόκληρη τὴ λατρεία της. Γι' αὐτὸ κάθε Κυριακὴ τὴν Ἀνάσταση τοῦ Χριστοῦ γιορτάζει, τὴν Ἀνάστασή Του ψέλνει καὶ προσκυνᾶ. «Ἀνάσταση Χριστοῦ θεασάμενοι...» ψάλλομε σὲ κάθε εὐχαριστία τῆς Κυριακῆς, γινόμενοι ἔτσι μυστικὰ θεατὲς καὶ ὁμολογητὲς τῆς Ἀνάστασής Του. Στὸ εὐαγγελικὸ ἀνάγνωσμα τοῦ Σαββάτου τοῦ Λαζάρου, ὑπάρχει ἕνας συγκλονιστικὸς διάλογος ἀνάμεσα στὸν Ἰησοῦ καὶ τὴν ἀδελφή τοῦ Λαζάρου τὴ Μάρθα. Εἶναι τέτοια ἡ θλίψη καὶ ἡ στεναχώρια της ποὺ λέει στὸν Κύριο «Κύριε, εἰ ἦς ὧδε, ὁ ἀδελφός μου οὐκ ἂν ἐτεθνήκει». Καὶ ὁ Κύριος τῆς ἀπαντᾶ: «ἐγὼ εἰμὶ ἡ ἀνάστασις καὶ ἡ ζωή ὁ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμέ, κἄν ἀποθάνῃ, ζήσεται καὶ πᾶς ὁ ζῶν καὶ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμὲ οὐ μὴ ἀποθάνῃ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα πιστεύεις τοῦτο;». (Ἰωάν.39-44). Ἡ ἐρώτηση αὐτὴ τοῦ Κυρίου μας, ἐπαναλαμβάνεται διαχρονικὰ σὲ κάθε πιστό, σὲ κάθε χριστιανό ποὺ ἀναζητᾶ ἐναγωνίως λύση καὶ διέξοδο στὰ ποικιλόμορφα προβλήματά του. Ὁ ἴδιος βέβαια μᾶς ἀπέδειξε μὲ λόγια καὶ μὲ ἔργα ὅτι εἶναι ἡ Ζωὴ καὶ ἡ Ἀνάσταση. Ἔγινε ἄνθρωπος γιὰ νὰ ἐμψυχώσει τὸν ἄνθρωπο. Ἔτσι ἡ ἀνθρώπινη φύση δὲν ἔγινε ἁπλῶς οἰκεία τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἀλλὰ ἀνυψώθηκε στὴ θεότητα. Καὶ ἀκριβῶς στὴν ἀνύψωση αὐτή, οἱ πατέρες μας διαβλέπουν τὴν οὐσία καὶ τὸ μυστήριο τῆς σωτηρίας μας. «Σώζεται ὅ,τι ἑνώνεται μὲ τὸ Θεό ὅ,τι δὲν ἑνωθεῖ μαζί Του δὲν σώζεται» λέγει χαρακτηριστικὰ ὁ Ἅγιος Γρηγόριος ὁ Θεολόγος. Ἐνανθρώπησε λοιπὸν γιὰ νὰ πεθάνει καὶ ἔτσι νὰ μᾶς καταστήσει κληρονόμους τῆς αἰώνιας Ζωῆς. Ἡ σωτηρία καὶ ἡ ἀπολύτρωση τοῦ ἀνθρώπινου γένους, ἔπρεπε νὰ εἶναι νίκη ἐπὶ τοῦ θανάτου. Ὁ λόγος τοῦ Θεοῦ ἀνέλαβε τὸ σῶμα μας γιὰ νὰ μᾶς ἀπαλλάξει ἀπ' τὴ φθορὰ τῆς ἀνθρώπινης φύσης. Ὁ Θεὸς σαρκώθηκε, γιὰ νὰ θεοποιήσει τὴ σάρκα. Ὑπέστη τὴ σάρκωση καὶ τὸ θάνατο γιὰ νὰ νικήσει τὴ θνητότητα καὶ τὴ φθορά. Ὁ θάνατός Του ἔγινε ἡ δική μας ἀνάσταση καὶ νίκη ποὺ κερδήθηκε ἐπὶ τοῦ Σταυροῦ. Καταθέτει τὴ Ζωή Του γιὰ νὰ ζωοποιήσει τὴ δική μας. Πεθαίνει, μὰ μὲ τὸ θάνατό Του σκορπᾶ ἀπλώχερα τὴ Ζωή. Ἐνταφιάζεται μὰ ἡ γῆ ἀδυνατεῖ νὰ τὸν κρατήσει μέσα της. Κατεβαίνει στὰ σκοτεινὰ ὑπόγεια τοῦ Ἅδη καὶ εὐθὺς αὐτὰ φωτίζονται καὶ καταυγάζονται ἀπ' τὸ δικό του ἄσβεστο φῶς. Καὶ ὅλα αὐτὰ γιατί ὁ θάνατός Του δὲν εἶναι ἀποτέλεσμα φυσικῆς-σωματικῆς ἀδυναμίας ἢ βιολογικῆς νομοτέλειας, ἀλλὰ ἡ ἀπὸ καταβολῆς κόσμου ἀπόφαση τοῦ Θεοῦ νὰ ἀπαλλάξει τὸν ἄνθρωπο ἀπὸ τὰ βάρη τῆς φθορᾶς καὶ τοῦ θανάτου. Ἦταν ἡ ἀναγκαιότητα τῆς Θείας Ἀγάπης. «Ἐγὼ εἶμαι ὁ πρῶτος, γιατί ὑπάρχω ἀϊδίως, καὶ ὁ ἔσχατος, γιατί θὰ εἶμαι πάντοτε. Εἶμαι αὐτὸς ποὺ ζεῖ διαρκῶς, γιατί ἡ ζωή μοῦ ἀνήκει. Ἔγινα νεκρὸς καὶ πέθανα γιὰ τὴ σωτηρία τῶν ἀνθρώπων. Ἐγὼ κρατῶ στὰ χέρια μου τὰ κλειδιὰ τοῦ Ἅδη, γιατί μὲ τὸ θάνατό μου κατέλυσα τὴν ἐξουσία του» (Ἀποκ. α' 17-18). Νιράκης Ἐµµανουήλ (Πρεσβύτερος)

A message from Rev. Father Nikolaos Christ is risen! We are keeping today the Resurrection of Christ which is the victory of God over death but also over evil. But this victory is not won by God alone. When the Son of God became Man it is in His humanity by His Divine power that He overcame evil. And so let us rejoice not only in the love of God, in the mercy of God, in the greatness of God, in His generosity, but let us rejoice also in the fact that we, human beings are capable of uniting with God in such a way, in such a manner that in and through us evil may be destroyed. Not only our private sin, not only our weakness, but the evil one", the one that is a tempter, the one that tried in the wilderness to overcome the Divine through the human. Let us be grateful to God for His victory but let us rejoice in the depth and vastness and the infinite possibilities of our humanity. But if this be true, let us remember that the victory won by Christ in our humanity is also a call for us because Christ is risen, but the risen Christ still wears on His body the marks of His Passion. His hands are still wounded with nails, His feet are still pierced with them, His side is still marked by the spear, His forehead is still wounded by the crown of thorns and they will never be healed until there is one sinner on earth, and this sinner may be me, it may be each of us. Let us then take the victory of God and the price to Him in earnest. Let us realize what it means that I am in a position to let Christ crucified, and worse than that - I may be among those who did crucify and are crucifying Him if I join the crowd of those who willfully sin against God. And I may be making heavier the cross upon which He is nailed because in baptism, through baptism we have become all of us living members of the body of Christ. And when we submit this body, this soul, this mind, this heart, this will to the power of Satan it is Christ Whom we make again a suffer on earth. But there is more to it. Our vocation is to be on earth, because we are Christ s own, what He has been in the days of His incarnation. We are sent into the world to win by His power, with Him the victory which He had already won, but which must be won day in day out over ourselves and over all evil that possesses those people whom He has come to save. We are sent like sheep among wolves, we are sent to live and to die if necessary, for other to live and to enter life eternal. Let us therefore take this Feast of the Resurrection as a sign of the victory that is really won, and as a call to us to enter into His Passion and together with Him to win ourselves and every person around us. Dear Parishioners, I hope you made it through the snow and cold. The harsh winter has given all of us some hardships and the cost of snow removal has created a drain in the church treasury. We will try and tighten our belts. We are looking for youngsters and coaches to regenerate the athletic programs. Please let us know if you have children and what they would like to participate in. What you see below are some of the items that must be addressed. If anyone would like to participate, let us know. If you think we have missed or overlooked something in error, please don't hesitate to let us know. Or should we cut back, eliminate or sell our property, you make the decision. Be careful what you wish for. George's wish list. In my opinion, here is a list of some of the items that have to be addressed. Church: - Basement floor. Patch 2 areas approx. cost $700.00. (Could be more when we see what is going on under the floor). - Whole floor must be replaced - Bench dedicated to T. Demoulas and family (approximate cost $5,000.00). - Elevator/handicap access - Furnace area could be cleaned and used for additional storage (Volunteers needed anytime). - Rest rooms updated and modernized - Funds must be raised for the extra cost of snow removal and plowing. Also, the handling of ice dams for all the church owned buildings - Note: Received water damage within the school from melting snow and ice Cultural Center: - Floor (gym and stage) - Kitchen - Roof, bricks and drain - Improved sound system School: - Additional and/or movable storage bins for Pre K classes for books, supplies and clothes. Also painting First Floor (down stairs) to brighten up area. - Looking for volunteers to clean, move equipment and paint a few Saturdays or evenings during school summer shut down in July & August 2015 - Need extra toilets for younger school children (Pre-K s and Kindergarten due to number of children and current clogging issues). - Ceiling and floor tiles - Exterior bricks and windows have to be worked on - Roof (approx. cost $50,000.00) - Grants, foundations and new funding sources - Lunch Program - Students Area between School and Cultural Center - Ceiling tiles need replacement - Floor tiles in bathrooms and painting of bathrooms - Roof and drain (approx. cost $20,000.00) Please get involved. On March 22, 2015, at our annual Greek Independence Day Fish Dinner from 12:00 noon to 1:30 PM at our Cultural Center, there will be a "Person of the Year" announced and also the Hellenic American Academy students will perform at 2 PM. On March 25, 2015 - there will be a Church service in the morning and the Greek Independence Day parade will start about 12 Noon with a flag raising at Lowell City Hall to follow. Get ready for Easter. We are looking for an individual to assist with chanting. Question: Ask yourself if there are bricks breaking from water freezing, could the facade pull away from the structure? Please note that we have not cared for these buildings in the past, so it is time to do it. Please help by volunteering and assisting with funds. Respectfully, George S. After missing a few weeks of Sunday school due to the snow storms, we celebrated Sunday of Orthodoxy on March 1 st. Some of the students made their own icons, and others brought their own in and participated in the procession around the Church. They were very enthusiastic and proud to show their beautiful Icons. FYI- Again this year, the Sunday school will be selling Easter candles. Look for them in April. All proceeds will benefit the Sunday school program. The annual Saturday of Lazaros Pancake communion and craft breakfast will be held on Saturday April 12, Orthros will begin at 8:00, Liturgy at 9:00. Following communion the children will proceed downstairs for pancakes and a craft. Please join us and enjoy our delicious pancakes. Everyone is welcome!

After a winter break our first meeting of the New Year was held Monday, March 2nd. Even with the very cold weather we had 30 members in attendance. After a very productive, fun meeting, we all enjoyed strawberry and peach shortcake, played a fun guessing games and had a mini fashion show. I informed the ladies that as voted at the December meeting I purchased a lectern with microphone system for the church hall and a partition for the cultural center- to hide chairs and tables up against the walls. For our March obligations we voted to send donations to the National Philoptochos for the Orthodox Christian Mission, to support a Mission Priest, and to the Hellenic College/Holy Cross Lenten Event. April obligations included Sisterhood of St. Basil and the International Christian Charities. On the local level we sent a check to the Lowell Food Pantry where our member Paula Gendron sits on the board. The Board voted to send a check for $1000.00 to the family of Father Matthew Baker, the 36 year old priest from Norwich, Conn.,who died in a car accident driving home from church with his six young children. May He Rest In Peace. On Sunday, March 8th, we had the Vesper services at our Church. Once again the ladies prepared a wonderful array of Lenten foods. We welcomed over 80 parishioners from all the local Orthodox churches. Since our next meeting would fall during Holy Week we will not meet until May. The Andover Philoptochos has invited us to attend their next meeting Thursday, April 19th.The president of the Metropolis will be there to speak to us. If you are interested in attending please let me know. We are now preparing for Easter. Members are invited to help wrap dyed eggs and prepare the Epitaphio. Wishing you a Happy Easter. Please Join Philoptocos- Anyone from age 18 years and up is welcome. How would you like to be a part of a wonderful group of volunteers? Women who are ready to help our church and neighborhood community. Women who raise funds to support fourteen National charities, several Metropolis charities, local charities and church needs. Women, who help with the decorating of the Epitaphio, wrap red eggs for Easter, make and sell baked goods for holidays. Bake and serve delicious goodies for coffee hours, Vasilopita and Vespers. Women, who chair, set up and serve at special functions throughout the year. Who visit nursing homes and shut-ins for Christmas and Easter. It seems like a lot to ask but it has great rewards.
