When You descended to the realm of death You as life immortal rendered to Hades a mortal blow by Your all radiant divinity. And when You from infernal depths and the darkness below did raise the dead all the hosts of heaven s powers did proclaim and cry out O life-giving Christ and Our God we give glory Hymn for Sts. Since Thou hast given us the miracles of Thy holy Martyrs as an invincible battlement, by their entreaties scatter the counsels of the heathen, O Christ our God, and strengthen the faith of Orthodox Christians, since Thou alone art good and the Friend of man. Hymn for the Transfiguration of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Metemorfothis en to ori, Christe o Theos, dixas tis mathites Sou tin doxan Sou, kathos idynando Lampson ke imin tis amartolis to fos Sou to aidion, presvies tis Theotokou Fotodota doxa Si. When O Christ our God Thou wast Transfigured on the mountain Thou didst reveal Thy glory to Thy disciples in proportion as they could bear it. Let Thine everlasting light also enlighten us sinners. Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Thou Bestower of light, glory to Thee Kontakion Ὁ μήτραν παρθενικὴν ἁγιάσας τῷ τόκῳ σου, καὶ χεῖρας τοῦ Συμεὼν εὐλογήσας ὡς ἔπρεπε, προφθάσας καὶ νῦν ἔσωσας ἡμᾶς Χριστὲ ὁ Θεός. Thou Who didst sanctify the Virgin's womb by Thy birth, and didst bless Symeon's hands as was meet, by anticipation hast even now saved us, O Christ God. But grant peace in the midst of wars unto Thy commonwealth and strengthen the hierarchs whom Thou hast loved, O only Friend of man. Consecration Preparations under way! You may have noticed the paint swatches on our church walls. Preparations for beautifying the interior of our Sanctuary have been made! We are very excited to announce that we begin painting on February 1st!
Epistle - St. Paul's First Letter to Timothy 4:9-15 T IMOTHY, my son, the saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance. For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe. Command and teach these things. Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. Till I come, attend to the public reading of scripture, to preaching, to teaching. Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophetic utterance when the council of elders laid their hands upon you. Practice these duties, devote yourself to them, so that all may see your progress. Gospel - Luke 19:1-10 A t that time, Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. And there was a man named Zacchaios; he was a chief collector, and rich. And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not, on account of the crowd, because he was small of stature. So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaios, make haste and come down; for I must stay at your house today." So he made haste and came down, and received him joyfully. And when they saw it they all murmured, "He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner." And Zacchaios stood and said to the Lord, "Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have defrauded any one of anything, I restore it fourfold." And Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of man came to seek and to save the lost." Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church First Outdoor Divine Liturgy on our Property - June 1991 GODPARENT SUNDAY IS TODAY!!! This year, in addition to Godparents sitting with their Godchildren, taking them for Holy Communion, we will offer an important and special prayer service to God, asking for His continued blessings in our preparations for the Consecration of our Church. Firstly, we will gather all Godparent pledges towards Consecration and offer them in prayer to God, asking for His blessings and sanctification, upon all the names of our family and friends offered. Secondly, we will process outside the Church building and go to the exact location of where the first Transfiguration Divine Liturgy was held outdoors on these grounds. Together, in prayer, we will ask God s blessings and protection, as Father Vasileios blesses with Holy Water the precipitous cliff area where the new processional walkway behind the Holy Altar, will be built! Glory to God for His many blessings of love, service and growth in our community! We are so grateful!
