THE ARCHANGEL S CALL - April 2017 Page 1 TAXIARCHAE/ARCHANGELS GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH WATERTOWN, MASSACHUSETTS WWW.GOARCHANGELS.ORG The Experience of Christ s Resurrection By Constantinos Magimby Christ is risen from the dead, by death trampling down upon death, and to those in the tombs He has granted life. It is the day of Resurrection; let us be radiant for the festival, and let us embrace one another. Let us say, O brethren, even to those that hate us: Let us forgive all things on the Resurrection; and thus let us cry: Christ is risen from the dead, by death He has trampled down death, and on those in the tombs He has bestowed life. (Doxastikon of the Praises) he Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus T Christ is indeed the very foundation of the Orthodox Church. The Apostle Luke tells us that the Resurrection of Jesus caused the opening of the tomb, and thereafter opened the minds and the eyes of the Emmaus Disciples to understand who Jesus Christ was. Just as the Disciples eyes and minds were opened towards their understanding of Christ and the Scriptures, in the same way we are called today to a new reality a new place, space and time in this world of understanding who we are, and our purpose on this journey of life. The stone that was rolled away from the tomb also opened a new door of creation. For behold, I create a new heaven and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind (Isaiah 65:17). The rolling away of the stone becomes a symbol that opens the door to a new Christian world that is brave and filled with a new mission in this hurting world. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people (Matt. 27:51). The curtain or veil of the temple meant the separation between man and God. The door that separated man from God is now opened. Here is a new life filled with light, love, compassion, forgiveness, mercy and joy. A door is opened for people to reconcile to one another, to embrace one another and forgive all things. Yes, the Jews and the gentiles are reconciled to one another. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others (Romans 12:5). Jesus resurrection opened doors that were shut. Separating the Jews from the gentiles, the slaves from the free, barbarians and the Scythians, life and death, the Resurrection of Jesus brings a new dawn giving us a key to life eternal. Yes, Jesus Resurrection transforms all things from natural to supernatural, from spiritual death to spiritual life. We wish you all a joyful Resurrection of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We pray that the light that shone forth from the tomb of the Risen Christ shine into your lives, your families and friends, your pains and sufferings, your comings and goings, but most importantly in your spiritual lives. O Death, where is thy sting? O Hell, where is thy victory? (1 Cor. 15:55) Christ is risen, and thou art overthrown! Christ is risen, and the demons are fallen! Christ is risen, and the angels rejoice! Christ is risen, and life reigns! Christ is risen, and not one dead remains in the grave. For Christ, being risen from the dead, Has become the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep. To Him be glory and dominion Unto ages of ages. Amen. From the Sermon of St. John Chrysostom

THE ARCHANGEL S CALL - April 2017 Page 3 From Father Athanasios «Ιδού καιρός ευπρόσδεκτος, δού ηµέρα σωτηρίας» Αδέλφια µου, Κοντεύει πλέον το τέλος της µεγάλης Τεσσαρακοστής και ο καιρός των γεγονότων της Μεγάλης Εβδοµάδος! Αθανάσιος Νένες Äόξα τω Θεώ Πάντων Ένεκεν Glory to God for All Behold time welcome, behold the day of salvation My beloved, The journey of Great Lent is ending and the time approaches for the entrance of Holy Week. On the Saturday of Lazarus we enter the Great and Holy Week. That Week is called Great and Holy because we are experiencing Great, Holy and Wondrous Events, according to St. John of Chrysostom! Once again, the time has come when the church is calling us to prepare for the experience of that ineffable Love from our Lord and God Jesus Christ. That Love from above is expressed through His willing Passion, His total Humiliation, His Holy Crucifixion and death on the cross and at the end, His Life-giving Resurrection! The main meaning and feelings from Holy Week that should be engulfed deep in our hearts are the Joy and Serenity of His Resurrection and Peace! Come my beloved, let us all, as one family united through Christ as we are and as God wants us to be, follow Him and be compassionate with our Lord on the Cross; but also to be co-resurrected with Him, experiencing His own Resurrection! Happy Easter! Your parish priest, Fr. Athanasios Nenes Inter-parish Presanctified Liturgy Wednesday, April 5 Taxiarchae/Archangels, 25 Bigelow Avenue, Watertown Let my prayer rise as incense before You...
