Hymn for the Presentation of Our Lord to the Temple Rejoice, thou who art full of grace, O Virgin Theotokos, for from thee hath risen the Sun of Righteousness, Christ our God, enlightening those in darkness. Rejoice thou al so, O righteous Elder, as thou receivest in thine arms the Redeemer of our souls, Who also granteth unto us the Resurrection. Hymn for the Transfiguration of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Thou Bestower of light, glory to Thee Kontakion Ὁ μήτραν παρθενικὴν ἁγιάσας τῷ τόκῳ σου, καὶ χεῖρας τοῦ Συμεὼν εὐλογήσας ὡς ἔπρεπε, προφθάσας καὶ νῦν ἔσωσας ἡμᾶς Χριστὲ ὁ Θεός. Thou Who didst sanctify the Virgin's womb by Thy birth, and didst bless Symeon's hands as was meet, by anticipation hast even now saved us, O Christ God. But grant peace in the midst of wars unto Thy commonwealth and strengthen the hierarchs whom Thou hast loved, O only Friend of man.
Epistle - St. Pa u l ' s S e c o n d L e t t e r t o Ti mot h y 3 : 1 0-1 5 T IMOTHY, my son, you have observed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, my persecutions, my sufferings, what befell me at Antioch, at lconion, and at Lystra, what persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil men and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. G o s p e l - L u k e 1 8 : 1 0-1 4 T he Lord said this parable, "Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get.' But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted." Please allow the children and the teachers of our Sunday School to take communion first so they can go to their classes.

Sister Vassa At Transfiguration Join us for a Pre-Lenten Retreat and potluck dinner with Sister Vassa on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 4pm SIMEON SA Thursday, February 2 Guided by the Spirit, Simeon came into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him what was customary under the law, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying, Now you are dismissing your servant in peace, O Master, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel. (Lk 2: 27-32) RSVP at: transfiguration.org or at: http://tinyurl.com/vassa -T-Fig The hymns and prayers of the feast of The Presentation/Meeting of the Lord, celebrated today according to the New Calendar, make a big deal of Simeon seeing the Lord as Simeon did. The elder saw the child physically, with his eyes, and also recognized and accepted Him in his heart, as the Saviour of all peoples: My eyes have seen your salvation, he says. This vision is revealed to Simeon because he is open to it; because the elder, despite his age, is teachable and willing to be guided by the Spirit. Simeon s openness is not forced upon him, but rather his choice. Many of us are shown salvation every day, but choose not to recognize or accept it, as God tells Isaiah in a passage also read at the Vespers of this feast: you shall see indeed, but you shall not perceive. For the heart of this people has become gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed (Is 6: 9-10) So let me clear away some of the hoarded baggage in my heart that may be blocking my vision, like resentments or self-pity or self-centered fear. And let me open up to the salvation God wants to show me today in my various situations, relationships, and challenges. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God in the midst of all of it. Mark your calendars today, and check her out on YouTube and at http://www.coffeewithsistervassa.com/.

With grateful thanks, Harry Stamatis and Nyda Glaros, 2017 Stewardship Chairs NATIONAL BOY SCOUTS DAY February 8 Boy Scout Day takes place on February 08, 2017. According to the Scout's motto everyone should try to do a good turn on Boy Scout Day. The date goes back to the founding of the Scouts in America by William Dickson Boyce in 1910. In Great Britain Lord Baden-Powel is the so called father of the Boy Scouts. There are Scout organizations all over the world. On Boy Scout Day Scouts celebrate themselves. They go to church together on Scout Sunday and have breakfast. Scout Sunday is the Sunday next to Boy Scout Day. Scouts learn a lot about nature, spoors, animals and have the claim to always be helpful and friendly. They do sports together and have a wonderful confraternity. Today we are celebrating all the Boy Scouts of our Parish with a special prayer/blessing. All Boy Scouts are asked to come dressed in their uniform and at the end of the Liturgy proceed to the front to be blessed by Father Vasileios.
