Τον μήνα Σεπτέμβριο, ξεκινάμε το Νέο Εκκλησιαστικό Έτος, τελειώνουν οι καλοκαιρινές διακοπές και μπαίνουμε οριστικά εις το Χειμερινό πρόγραμμα. Είναι καιρός και πάλι να προσαρμοστούμε εις την καθημερινότητα. Η Κοινότητά μας προσφέρει πολλά και ποικίλα προγράμματα, με τα οποία έχει ως σκοπό να προσεγγίσει όλες τις ηλικίες. Σας προτρέπουμε να δραστηριοποιηθείτε εις τα προγράμματα της Κοινότητάς μας, διότι μόνο με την συμμετοχή σας μπορούμε να δραστηριοποιηθούμε και να καταφέρουμε να ανανεώσουμε την Κοινότητά μας. Το έργο της κάθε Κοινότητας, δεν είναι έργο μόνο των Ιερέων, αλλά είναι έργο όλων των Χριστιανών. Εφόσον αγαπούμε την Κοινότητα του Αγίου Δημητρίου, έχουμε υποχρέωση όλοι μαζί να πορευθούμε για το καλύτερο. Είναι καιρός να βγούμε από την αδράνεια. Πρέπει και άλλοι άνθρωποι στην Κοινότητα να πάρουνε πρωτοβουλία και να προσφέρουν το χρόνο τους, όχι μόνο να συμμετέχουν στα προγράμματα, αλλά να προσφέρουν τον χρόνο και στις διοικητικές θέσεις της Κοινότητάς μας. Δεν μπορούμε να κατηγορούμε ή να σχολιάζουμε τις αποφάσεις, όταν εμείς δεν είμαστε διατεθειμένοι να ασχοληθούμε. Μόνο μέσα από την δική μας συμμετοχή, θα μπορέσουμε να γίνουμε μια ζωντανή Κοινότητα. Εάν δεν είσαστε ενήμεροι για τους Εκκλησιαστικούς και κοινωνικούς οργανισμούς μας, μην διστάσετε να επικοινωνήσετε μαζί μας, είτε με τους Ιερείς, τους Επιτρόπους, ή τις Κυρίες του γραφείου μας. Τα σχολεία μας έχουν ήδη ξεκινήσει. Σας παρακαλώ να γράψετε τα παιδιά σας στο Ημερήσιο ή Απογευματινό σχολείο μας. Η γνώση της Ελληνικής γλώσσας και της κουλτούρας μας, είναι απαραίτητη εάν θέλουμε να επιβιώσουμε στον τόπο που ζούμε. Εάν δεν μορφώσουμε τα παιδιά μας εις την Ελληνική γλώσσα και την παράδοση μας, θα χάσουμε την ταυτότητά μας.
Τα Κατηχητικά σχολεία ξεκινούν στο τέλος του μηνός. Φέρετε τα παιδιά σας να γνωρίσουν την Ορθόδοξη πίστη. Ένα βασικό στοιχείο που κάνει να ξεχωρίζουμε από τους άλλους λαούς, είναι η Ορθόδοξη πίστη μας. Εάν δεν διδάξουμε τα παιδιά μας τώρα που είναι μικρά, μην περιμένουμε να έρθουν όταν μεγαλώσουν. Εύχομαι ο Πανάγαθος Θεός να μας ευλογήσει για να έχουμε μια ευλογημένη Εκκλησιαστική χρονιά. Με ευχές Κυρίου, Αρχιμ. Νεκτάριος Παπαζαφειρόπουλος Dear Beloved Parishioners, I pray that with the Grace of God you had a good summer, and for all those that went away welcome back. September 1 st begins the new Ecclesiastical year, summer vacations are over and we enter into the Fall season. This means that we have to get re-accustomed to our daily routines. Our Community offers many and varied programs that are geared to all ages. We encourage everyone to get involved and become active in our organizations. It is through involvement that we hope to rejuvenate our Community. We often don t realize that running a Community is not the sole responsibility of the Priests, but rather all of us. If we claim that we love the Community of St. Demetrios we all have to share responsibility for a better future. Now is the time that we need you to get active. Everyone in the Community has to take initiative and offer their time not only to participate in the programs or organizations but also to partake in the committee boards. We cannot be critical of the decisions that are being made if we are not willing and ready to get involved. Only through involvement will we be able to become a vibrant Community. If you are not familiar of what programs are available feel free to ask the Priests, Parish Council members or the Church office staff. Our Day and Afternoon Schools have begun. We ask that you bring your children to our Schools because it is through our Schools that our children will learn the Greek Language and the Hellenistic Culture. If we don t educate our children in the Greek language and our Hellenistic culture we cannot hope to maintain our identity in the multi-cultural society that we live. Our Sunday School programs are starting at the end of the month. We hope that you bring your children to learn about our Orthodox Faith. If we don t educate our children now that they are young we can t expect them to come once they have grown up. We have made many changes last year and we have excellent staff in all of our Schools. Ἀγαπητοί πάροικοι. Καλή δύναμη καί πολλή αὐτή τήν Ἐκκλησιαστική χρονιά, ἡ ὁποία ἄρχισε μέ ἕνα σωρό γιορτές καί προγράμματα. Ὅλοι μαζί μέ νέα συμμετοχή καί νοοτροπία στήν Κοινοτική μας ζωή. Καλῶς εἴλθαμε εἰς τά ἰδια. Δόξα εἰς τόν καλόν Θεόν, ὁ Ὁποῖος οἰκονόμησε γιά ὅλους μας χρόνο νά βρεθούμε σέ κάποιο ἀγαπητό τόπο γιά κάποια ἀνάπαυση, γιά κάποια ἀναπόληση παλαιών ἠμερών, γιά κάποια ἀνανέωση σωματική καί ψυχική. Ἡ πολυάσχολη καθημερινή ζωή μᾶς περιορίζει, ὑστερεῖ τό χρόνο νά δοῦμε ἰδιαίτερα τούς ἀγαπητούς μας, εἴτε ἐδῶ, εἴτε μακρυά μας. Ἡ ψυχή ἔχει ἀνάγκη νά ἀγκαλιάζη συχνά τήν φύση, τόσο ὅσο καί τούς ἀγαπημένους. Ἀλλιῶς ὅλα φταῖνε. Πρέπει νά συνειδητοποιήσουμε ὅτι, οἱ εὐθῦνες μας δέν περιορίζονται μονάχα σέ ἕνα τομέα, τό πῶς νά οἰκονομήσουμε τον ἐπιούσιον. Τούτους τούς ἐπώδυνους καί κουραστικούς καιρούς, δικαιολογεῖται ἡ ἀνησυχία. Ἀλλά νά! Πῶς μπορεῖ νά ζήση ὁ ἄνθρωπος χωρίς τήν παρέα του, χωρίς τή συντροφιά του, χωρίς τή φύση καί τό τραγούδι του; Χωρίς τή συγγένεια καί φιλία; Πῶς μπορεῖ νά γίνη εὐχάριστος κι ὠφέλιμος γιά ὅλους μας ή ζωή; Δέν εἶναι μικρά λόγια αὐτά. Εἶναι οἱ ἄξονες τῶν βασιλικῶν θεμάτων πού ἄν δεν τά ζήσουμε, πεθαίνουμε σιγά σιγά ἐνῶ εἴμαστε ζωντανοί. Ἔχει ὁ Θεός!!!! Ὑπάρχουν ἄνθρωποι πού δέν ἀναγνωρίζουν εὐθῦνες, ἔτσι τό βάρος πέφτει στούς φιλότιμους. Κρῖμα!! Ναι! Φέτος λοιπόν, ὅλοι μας δεμένοι πάλι σφιχτά στό προγονικό μας παρελθόν, στήν ὁμόνοια, στήν ἀγάπη καί στήν ἀδελφοσύνη. Ἀγαπητοί μου, το χαρακτηριστικό ὅλων μας αὐτή τή χρονιά νά εἶναι: Θέληση, φλόγα, ἐνδιαφέρον και ἀποφασιστηκότητα γιά τό κοινό καλό, πού θά εἶναι και γιά μᾶς ἀτομικό καλό. Με ἀγάπη Αἰδεσ. π. Ἰωάννης Ἀντωνόπουλος Και πάλι καλό χειμώνα. Ἔχει ὀ Θεός. Ἡ Γέννησις τῆς Ὑπεραγίας Θεοτόκου «Ἀποκάλυψαν πρὸς Κύριον τὴν ὁδόν σου καὶ ἔλπισον ἐπ αὐτόν, καὶ τῆς ποιήσει». Φανέρωσε στὸν Κύριο μὲ ἐμπιστοσύνη τὸν δρόμο καὶ τὶς ἐπιδιώξεις καὶ τὶς ἀνάγκες τῆς ζωῆς σου καὶ ἔλπισε σ Αὐτὸν καὶ θὰ κάνει ἐκεῖνα ποὺ ζητᾶς καὶ χρειάζεσαι. Μ αὐτὴ τὴν ἐμπιστοσύνη καὶ ἐλπίδα, ὁ Ἰωακεὶμ καὶ ἡ Ἄννα ἱκέτευαν προσευχόμενοι τὸν Θεὸ νὰ τοὺς χαρίσει παιδί, νὰ τὸ ἔχουν γλυκειὰ παρηγοριὰ στὰ γεράματά τους. Καὶ τὴν ἐλπίδα τους, ὁ Θεὸς, τὴν ἔκανε πραγματικότητα. Τοὺς χάρισε τὴν Παρθένο Μαριάμ, ποὺ ἦταν ὁρισμένη νὰ γεννήσει τὸν Σωτῆρα τοῦ κόσμου καὶ νὰ λάμψει σὰν ἡ πιὸ εὐλογημένη μεταξὺ τῶν γυναικών. Ἦταν ἐκείνη, ἀπὸ τὴν ὁποία ἔμελλε νὰ προέλθει Αὐτὸς ποὺ θὰ συνέτριβε τὴν κεφαλὴ τοῦ νοητοῦ ὄφεως. Στὴν Παλαιὰ Διαθήκη δόθηκαν οἱ προτυπώσεις τῆς Ὑπεραγίας Θεοτόκου. Μία εἶναι καὶ ἡ βάτος στὸ Σινᾶ, τὴν ὁποία ἐνῷ εἶχαν περιζώσει φλόγες φωτιᾶς, αὐτὴ δὲν καιγόταν. Ἦταν ἀπεικόνιση τῆς Παρθένου, ποὺ θὰ γεννοῦσε τὸν Σωτῆρα Χριστὸ καὶ συγχρόνως θὰ διατηροῦσε τὴν..παρθενία..της. Ἔτσι, ἡ Ἄννα καὶ ὁ Ἰωακείμ, ποὺ ἦταν ἀπὸ τὸ γένος τοῦ Δαβίδ, μὲ τὴν κραταιὰ ἐλπίδα ποὺ εἶχαν στὸν Θεὸ ἀπέκτησαν ἀπ Αὐτὸν τὸ ἐπιθυμητὸ δῶρο, ποὺ θὰ συντροφεύει τὸν κόσμο μέχρι συντέλειας αἰώνων.

Membership in the youth program entitles a youth member to try out for any of our athletic travel teams, so long as they meet the eligibility and age requirements for such team(s). Nobody will be allowed to participate in any tryouts for any of our athletic travel teams unless they are a registered member of a youth program. A registered member of a youth program entails BOTH submission of this registration form and all required information herein, AND payment of the participation registration fee of $50.00 (Fifty Dollars). One without the other is not sufficient.
All youth members who tryout and qualify for one of our athletic teams will be required to pay an additional travel team fee of $100.00 (One Hundred Dollars) which includes the team uniform. If the youth member has the same team uniform that will be worn by that team for that year from previous year(s), that youth member will only have to pay an additional travel team fee of $50.00 (Fifty Dollars). All travel team fees are payable once the final team roster is announced but in no event later than the time set by the respective Leagues for the submission of Team Rosters. If the travel team fee is not paid by that time, that youth member s name will not be included on the initial Team Roster submitted to the League. Travel team fees will be collected separately for each sport a youth member is on. For example, if a JOY member is on both a travel basketball team and a travel soccer team, they must pay two travel team fees one for basketball and one for soccer. However, despite the fact that soccer s one season is split up into Fall and Spring sessions, a youth member paying a travel team fee for the soccer team will only pay one travel team fee for the whole soccer season. Both the participation registration fee and the travel team fee are NOT refundable under any circumstances. Due to League Rules we may be limited to a certain number of youth members on a Team Roster (usually 15). The amount of teams the community of St. Demetrios Cathedral of Astoria enters into any division of any athletic league will be based upon the discretion of the Youth Committee of our Parish Council. ALL JOY youth members who are members of the traveling Basketball teams MUST nonetheless participate in Biddy League on Saturdays on a weekly basis, as being on a traveling team DOES NOT excuse a youth member from attending Biddy League. This rule will be strictly enforced. Photographs that are taken during Biddy League, JOY/GOYA Basketball/Soccer games, and JOY/GOYA trips, retreats, and awards dinners, may be posted on/in the Youth Program Facebook site, the community website, and the Community Bulletin. EMERGENCY PROCEDURE: In order to ensure the safety of your child, please sign the statement below giving authority to the St. Demetrios Astoria staff to arrange for treatment in the case of an emergency if you cannot be immediately reached.
