3 N DIGITAL ATLA 19 N Digital Atlas The N Digital Atlas is a colour atlas that visualizes all the 1 9 N Original colours specified in MYK and positioned in the N olour pace. To make the N Digital Atlas, the N Palette reative has been used to specify the colours. The N Palette reative is a set of colour librarys which gives you access to the N colours in your different computer software, regardless of whether it is for your monitor, for your colour printer or for a printing press. The N Digital Atlas contains the standardized 1 9 N Original colours and includes the 0 New olours introduced 04. These colours have been placed in their right positions in the N olour pace to get a clear overview of the colours. 184 of the colours lie in intermediate steps in the light area, and the size of the colour samples has been adapted to fit in their positions in the N olour Triangles. Use the N Digital Atlas as a reference point and as a tool to orientate and compare the colours on the screen or the printout with a coated N colour sample. Then you can see the shifting of the colours and can specify the colours on the basis of that. The N Digital Atlas in combination with N Palette reative is useful for all kind of digital colour selection and colour design, for architects and designers and for regular computer users. ith the digital colour palettes, it is easy to select and specify the correct N colours in your drawing-, image processing- or layout program. You can easily change the N colours on different objects, e.g. scanned-in houses and environments, directly on your monitor. To get the most out of the N Digital Atlas we recommend that you work with it in combination with a colour tool from N 19 Original olour ample ollection (e.g. an N Atlas or an N Block) as well as the N Palette reative. olour Differences Depending on limitations in the printing technique, differences can arise between the printed result of the N Digital Atlas and the nearest N colour sample. For technical reasons, variations between the monitor and N Original colour samples can also occur. hen communicating colour, always refer to the N notation and an N Original colour sample to be certain to get the best colour accuracy. The N ystem describes the whole colour space, but does not guarantee that all colours in the N Digital Atlas can be produced in all imaginable materials and qualities by all manufacturers. In doubtful cases, we recommend that you consult the manufacturer of the material of interest before the colour is ordered. For N products and retailers, please visit the N web site Print-outs from different computer printers often vary a lot depending on the printing technique (e.g. laser or inkjet). The colour settings in the print-driver, the operation system and the application also influence the printed colours. Therefore it is important to adjust these settings to simulate a four-colour print on matt-coated paper. The best is also to work in MYK mode in the application to avoid unnecessary colour conversions to and from RGB. Note that the colour on the screen may look slightly different comparing to the N colour sample because of the conversion from MYK into RGB. 4 N DIGITAL ATLA 19 The N ystem N - Natural olor ystem is a system with the help of which all possible surface colours (not fluorescent or metallic colours) can be described. That facilitates and guarantees exact colour navigation in design, communication and production. The N system is illustrated by an N olour Atlas containing 19 colour samples. Today, the N is one of the most widely used colour-describing systems in the world and has acquired international scientific acknowledgement. Besides, it is a wedish, Norwegian, panish and outh African national standard. N colour samples hold world-leading colour quality to provide exact colour match between different productions of colour samples, in order to make sure that the colour is always the same. The letter preceding the complete N notation (N R) means that the N sample is a standardized N colour sample issued by the candinavian olour Institute, the N Quality entre, and that it follows the N Quality Management system according to the Edition 2. The variables in the N notations are built entirely on visually observable properties of the colours. In the N notation for the colour N R, the first two digits indicate the percentage of visual blackness in the colour. The next two digits indicate the colour s chromaticness, i.e. how strong the colour is. The letter-number combination after the hyphen indicates the colour s hue, i.e. which chromatic attributes are included and the relation between these. In this case, it is a yellow hue with % redness. The N can also be illustrated graphically in a threedimensional model, where the blackness and chromaticness are given in an equilateral triangle and the hue on a circle. A point in the triangle and a line on the circumference of the circle provide an unequivocal description of a colour. The colour N R is marked in the triangle and in the circle below. The MYK values are exactly the same as those found in the N Palette reative s digital colour libraries and the N Digital Atlas. The MYK values are meant for offset printing on matt-coated paper, for more information see N - MYK - RGB. This translation table can also be used to find the nearest RGB value for a specific N colour. e recommend you to use MYK values when possible, since the resulting colour on screen or in print will often deviate from the standard N colour sample when using RGB. The resulting colour depends on the actual screen, printer and software drivers used.
