EPISTLE READING Reading is from St. Paul's Letter to Titus 3:8-15 TITUS, my son, the saying is sure. I desire you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to apply themselves to good deeds; these are excellent and profitable to men. But avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels over the law, for they are unprofitable and futile. As for a man who is factious, after admonishing him once or twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is perverted and sinful; he is selfcondemned. When I send Artemas or Tychicos to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there. Do your best to speed Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way; see that they lack nothing. And let our people learn to apply themselves to good deeds, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not to be unfruitful. All who are with me send greeting to you. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Our Chapter s next regular meeting will be on Thursday, September 10, 2015, with a Social Hour at 7 PM following by the meeting at 7:30 PM. There will be no regular meetings of our Chapter during the months of July and August. However, President John Abate may call some special meetings to discuss any urgent issues. If you are interested in continuing the tavli/backgammon games during the summer months, please contact Demetri Tsatsarones or George Loridas. Otherwise, this activity will resume in September 2015, on Fridays, 10 AM to 1 PM. We congratulate the granddaughters of three of our members who are the recipients of this year s AHEPA District 8 Scholarships. They are Suzan Kourtis (granddaughter of Fotios Kourtis), Nicole Tsatsarones (granddaughter of Demetrios Tsatsarones), and Grammatiki Papadopoulos (granddaughter of Efthimios Deamantopoulos). Best wishes for good progress in their studies. Our Chapter is again sponsoring a team of three high school students to compete in the Hellenic History Tournament in Connecticut this November. These students, selected by Mrs. Lela Digenis, wife of brother Constantine Digenis, were registered prior to June 30 and will be studying Greek History from a specific Hellenic History book in English, in order to compete as a team in the tournament. The winning team will share a $3,000 prize. Other students are encouraged to also study Hellenic History in preparation for being selected for a 2016 team. The Taxiarchae/Archangels Greek Orthodox Church is a historic and vibrant community. The Greek Education Program has a long and rich history as generations of children have experienced the richness and beauty of the Greek language and culture. Athanasios Nenes, Pastor REGISTRATION Registration for the school year begins on Tuesday, May 26, A $50 deposit per child is required by Monday, June 15 to reserve a spot for the Fall. SCHEDULE 1. Students have the option to: Attend once a week Thursdays from 4-6 PM or Saturdays from 10 am 1 pm OR Twice a week Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 pm to 6 pm. 2. Greek School classes for the school year will begin with the Agiasmos Services on: Thursday, September 10 Saturday, September 122 Tuesday, September Greek School calendar corresponds with the Watertown Public School closings and vacation schedules. 2-day attendees (Tuesday/Thursday) 1-day attendees (Thursday or Saturday) Parish Stewards $700/child $300/each additional child $675/child $300/each additional child Non-Stewards $1,200/child $500/each additional child $1,100/child $500/each additional child *Please Note: Tuition includes textbooks, course materials and activity fees.* EARLY REGISTRATION DISCOUNT As an incentive for early registration, we are offering a $ per family discount. 6 ANNOUNCEMENTS WELCOME TO ALL VISITORS: Please join us for fellowship immediately following the Liturgy in the social hall. For those visiting an Orthodox Church, please be aware that Holy Communion is a sign of unity of faith which is only offered to Baptized or Chrismated Orthodox Christians. However, all present are welcome to partake of the Antidoro (blessed bread) which is distributed at the end of the service. PARKING: Help us be a good neighbor. When parking at the Watertown Savings Bank, the ATM needs to be accessible to bank patrons, even on Sunday s! Please be considerate. MEMORIALS: Memorial service is offered today for the repose of the soul of Constantine Smerlas (5 years). May his memory be eternal Αιωνία η Mνήμη!
