1 20 March 2015 Dear Parents Greetings from the Playschool. This week has been a busy one. On Tuesday we were treated to a demonstration about caring for our pets. Christopher, an Ex-Sahetian kindly showed us how to take care of our dogs at home. His puppy, Chase was well received and the children thoroughly enjoyed touching him and allowed him to chase them in the garden. We also had our Parent Interviews. I hope the parents found these to be enlightening. Should there be any queries please do not hesitate to make an appointment with your child s teacher to resolve any uncertainties. This morning we celebrated Human Right s Day with stories, songs and Discussion. Our Little Ones were captivated by the story on Nelson Mandela and were fascinated by the Children s Bill of Rights. They learnt about their rights and responsibilities.

2 CONSIDERATIONS WHILST DRIVING ON THE SCHOOL PROPERTY Please buckle your children in to their car seats when DRIVING, they should not be allowed to move around in the car. Your child s safety is a priority. Please do not speed on the school grounds. Please be vigilant of children when reversing out of the parking. Please refrain from using your cell phones whilst driving. Please be courteous to other users of the school i.e. parents, visitors and children. Remember YOUR CHILD IS OUR FUTURE! P.T.A. VENTURES LAMBATHES EASTER CANDLES Lambathes are special candles for Easter, which are given to children as gifts by their parents and God parents. These candles are used for Mid Night Mass on the Saturday night when we celebrate the resurrection of Christ. On Monday this week each family received an order form for Lambathes. There is a beautiful selection of candles, varying in price on these forms. Please stipulate your child s name and class as well as your choice of candle on the form. Place the correct amount in the envelope provided with the completed form and hand to your child s teacher. The PTA will then prepare your Lambatha as per request and it will be ready at the end of term for you to use over Easter. Forthcoming Events Please diarise the following events! 3 PHOTOGRAPHS 30 TH MARCH PHOTOGRAPHS 1 ST APRIL EASTER TREASURE HUNT Last week of term SCHOOL CLOSES FOR THE FIRST TERM 2 ND APRIL ΣΗΜΑΝΤΙΚΕΣ ΗΜΕΡΟΜΗΝΙΕΣ ΕΟΡΤΑΣΜΟΣ 25 ης ΜΑΡΤΙΟΥ ΟΜΟΣΠΟΝ ΟΙΑΣ ΚΥΡΙΑΚΗ 22 ΜΑΡΤΙΟΥ 2015 ΕΟΡΤΑΣΜΟΣ 25 ης ΜΑΡΤΙΟΥ ΣΧΟΛΕΙΟΥ ΤΕΤΑΡΤΗ 25 ΜΑΡΤΙΟΥ 2015 GREEK NATIONAL DAY COMMUNITY CELEBRATIONS SUNDAY 22 MARCH These celebrations will take place on the SAHETI Sports field. All the community schools and SAHETI will be taking part in a march. The Grade R s will be representing the Playschool and Pre-Primary. This will be followed by lunch, Greek Dancing and there will be fun activities for the children. The proceedings should commence around 13h00, starting with addresses from various dignitaries and everyone is welcome! All the Grade R s will be meeting in the Pre-Primary carpark at 12h30, before proceeding to the sports fields where the festivities will take place. ΕΟΡΤΑΣΜΟΣ 25 ης ΜΑΡΤΙΟΥ ΟΜΟΣΠΟΝ ΟΙΑΣ ΚΥΡΙΑΚΗ 22 ΜΑΡΤΙΟΥ Η καθιερωμένη ετήσια παρέλαση για τον εορτασμό της 25 ης Μαρτίου, θα λάβει μέρος την Κυριακή, 22 Μαρτίου, στα γήπεδα του ΣΑΧΕΤΙ, με συμμετοχή όλων των κοινοτικών σχολείων. Τα Μεγάλα Τμήματα, «Grade R s» θ αντιπροσωπεύσουν το Βρεφονηπιακό Σταθμό και το Νηπιαγωγείο. Τα παιδιά θα συγκεντρωθούν στις 12h30 στο πάρκινγκ του Νηπιαγωγείου όπου θα τα παραλάβουν οι εκπαιδευτικοί τους. Το πρόγραμμα θ αρχίσει στη 13h00, με ομιλίες επισήμων. Θ ακολουθήσουν, παρέλαση και οι εορταστικές δραστηριότητες της ημέρας.

4 PHOTOGRAPHS will be taken in the week of the 23 rd March As from Monday the 23 rd March the photographer will be capturing the beautiful faces of our little treasures on camera. The dates which apply to us, are the 23 rd, 27 th, 30 th March and the 1 st of April. On Monday we will be focusing on Elli s and Irene s group. On the 27 th March we will photograph Chanelle and Soula s classes. On the 30 th March, Kathryn and Dominec s children will be photographed. On the 1 st of April all the absentees will be photographed. Moms and Dads please be aware that there may be changes to the programme of which the teachers will keep you informed. As per usual there will be no sibling photos. A sample of the photograph pack will be on display in the Reception Area. GREEK NATIONAL DAY WEDNESDAY 25 MARCH In 1821 the Greeks secretly conspired to liberate themselves from Ottoman oppression, which they had endured for four centuries. They engaged in numerous, valiant battles on land and at sea and eventually managed to drive out their enemy. The Greeks reclaimed Greece and they were free to fly their blue and white flag with pride and children could attend school freely and were no longer compelled to quietly attend classes at night. People were free to practise their traditional activities without any fear of reprisal. The bravery of our heroes and people, who courageously and fearlessly strove for the independence of Greece is celebrated annually. At the Playschool we will be celebrating this auspicious day in our Perception Area with stories about our great heroes and songs. Art Work and Baking will also be included to reinforce the theme of the week. 5 Την ημέρα αυτή γιορτάζουμε την έναρξη της ελληνικής επανάστασης ενάντια στον Τουρκικό ζυγό, που είχε κρατήσει τετρακόσια χρόνια. Ύστερα από πολλές μάχες από ξηρά και θάλασσα οι Έλληνες κατόρθωσαν να ελευθερώσουν την πατρίδα τους και να υψώσουν την γαλανόλευκη σημαία τους. Την ιστορική αυτή ημέρα και τον ηρωισμό των Ελλήνων γιορτάζουμε κάθε χρόνο σε όλα τα μέρη της γης, όπου υπάρχει ελληνισμός, με εορταστικές εκδηλώσεις και παρελάσεις. Την Τετάρτη, 25 Μαρτίου, στο Βρεφονηπιακό σταθμό, θα γιορτάσουμε την ημέρα αυτή με αφηγήσεις και τραγούδια σχετικά με το ιστορικό της ημέρας. Επιπλέον η θεματική αυτή ενότητα θα ενισχυθεί, στη διδασκαλία, με διάφορες καλλιτεχνικές και δημιουργικές δραστηριότητες OUTREACH Delly Belly Daycare Centre The day school closes on the 2 nd April, some of the staff will be going to the Dely Belly school and will invite the learners to participate in an Easter Egg hunt. We will also provide them with information on how to structure their day, to boost optimal learning. REMINDERS Box of tissues each term For our younger children 5 nappies a day, barrier cream and wet wipes Please apply sunscreen daily before arriving at school. Hats for sunny days Please book your child s birthday with Denise and no party packs. A cake is sufficient. Please pay Denise R80.00 for the Birthday Book. We need a change of clothing in each child s bag and please include a warm top as the weather is unpredictable. Baker s day to commence after the Mid-Term break Library will be commencing in the second term. Should your child be off colour, vomiting, have a fever, earache, diarrhoea, infected nose and coughing please keep them at home as they will have a miserable day at school and infect others. Please notify Denise in case of absenteeism.
