3 Epistle - 1 Corinthians 8: 8-13; 9: 1-2 Brethren, food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do. Only take care lest this liberty of yours somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. For if any one sees you, a man of knowledge, at table in an idol's temple, might he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? And so by your knowledge this weak man is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. Thus, sinning against your brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food is a cause of my brother's falling, I will never eat meat, lest I cause my brother to fall. Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are not you my workmanship in the Lord? If to others I am not an apostle, at least I am to you; for you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord. 4 Gospel - St.. Matthew 25: The Lord said, "When the Son of man comes in his glory and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left. Then the king will say to those at his right hand, 'Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.' Receiving Holy Communion The sacrament of Holy Communion is reserved for only baptized and/or Chrismated Orthodox Christians who have properly prepared by fasting, prayer and confession. The Orthodox Church is not in sacramental communion with any other church outside the Orthodox Christian Faith. If you are not Orthodox, you are invited with everyone to receive the Antidoron (blessed bread) at the end of service. If you would like information about the Orthodox Church, please see Fr. Vasileios after services. Our Sunday School Classes are in session. Please allow the students and teachers to receive Communion first so that they can get to their classes. Thank you. Vasileios Discussion and possible approval of possible funding sources for future staff Serving in Romania This Wednesday, Feb. 26, we are please to have OCMC missionary to Romania, Floyd Frantz, visit our parish. Please join us for a 5:00 Paraklesis followed by a 6:00 potluck dinner (Cheesefare Wednesday--no meat) and a talk by Floyd as he tells us about his work. Bring a dish to share if you can, but please show up even if you can't bring a dish! We would love for you to hear about the great work going on in Romania. Floyd Frantz became interested in serving as an Orthodox missionary in 1998, after attending a presentation by former OCMC missionaries Craig and Victoria Goodwin about their work in Romania. Their report about the high level of addiction amongst the young people living on the streets in Romania interested Floyd, who by profession is an addictions counselor. That same year while on a fact inding trip to Romania he noticed not only the high alcoholism rates, but also the poverty and general need of the population in Romania. There were no treatment programs for alcoholism, and generally alcoholics were looked on as being a lost cause, even by the Church. As a response to this in November of 2000 he began the St. Dimitrie Program in Cluj, Romania, and since that time he has been developing education and alcoholism treatment programs through the Orthodox Church in Romania. Much of his work is with the homeless and disenfranchised of the society, especially those in hospitals and institutions. Currently the St. Dimitrie Program has a day-center/social cantina in Cluj, and does counseling in two hospitals and an out patient clinic. It also has a weekly information and counseling program at a high security prison in Gherla, Romania. Their education program is active throughout Romania and parts of the Republic of Moldova, and is now partnering with the "National Anti-Drug Program of the Romanian Orthodox Church", of which Floyd is a coordinator. Floyd's lovely wife Ancuta is a native Romanian and is the director of the Protection of the Theotokos Family Center. Started through OCMC in 2005, the Protection Center is aimed at the prevention of child abandonment. According to of icial Romanian statistics, in 2006 there were over 7,000 children abandoned by their families in Romania. Ancuta's day-care and counseling project works in conjunction with the local child protection agency and the Orthodox Church to minister to new mothers by offering counseling and material support so that they will not abandon their children due to poverty or feelings of hopelessness. Currently the center is serving 18 children and their mothers. Working through OCMC and the Romanian Orthodox Church, the Franztes thank you for your continued prayer and inancial support. This class is for anyone who is interested in learning about the Orthodox Faith; anyone who is a Catechumen; or who is thinking about becoming a Catechumen; or for anyone who is already Orthodox and just wants to learn more about this beautiful Faith. This series will be approximately 8 weeks long, meeting every Friday. PARISH GENERAL ASSEMBLY Our first Parish Assembly is going to happen NEXT SUNDAY, MARCH 2 right after the Liturgy. This is a very important parish meeting (see the agenda on page 6) that should be of interest to all. Next Sunday is also Forgiveness Sunday! The beautiful service of Forgiveness Vespers will happen right after the assembly at 3:00pm. Because of the FULL afternoon, we are going to have an extra monthly luncheon this Sunday!
