3 PASTORAL THOUGHTS Beloved Parishioners, Our Lord s Glorious Resurrection is again with us, shedding even more abundantly the Love and great Compassion of God. Unworthy though we may be, mercy, forgiveness, loving kindness, compassion, charity, salvation, peace, and sanctification are ours, if we but humbly accept the great gift of God in our lives, Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Christ lived righteously on earth in order to recreate us. He suffered that we might be forgiven of our sins. He died that we might be spared the eternal damnation of eternal Death. He was resurrected that we may also be resurrected spiritually and physically. And He ascended into Heaven that we might receive the Holy Spirit and His Grace and Power that we may become like Christ. Because of the Resurrection, the Feast of Feasts, there is Life, there is Hope, and there is real Peace. If we live and walk in the Light of the Resurrection we shall spread light and the world will know it. Let us humbly, and with true repentance, seek the Lord while He may be found and let us make Him Master of our lives that we may become true and real Christian heirs of the Kingdom and recipients of God s Blessings and Gifts. I pray all of you have a most spiritually edifying Holy Week and Pascha. May the joy of the Resurrection burn in your hearts always and eternally as it did in the hearts of the two disciples on their way from Emmaus when our Resurrected Lord appeared and walked with them. Praying that you and your loved ones be blessed by the Holy Resurrection of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ this year and always, I remain, In the Resurrected Lord, +Father Constantine Aliferakis CHILDREN SHOULD BE IN CHURCH FOR THE FOLLOWING SERVICES: Holy Friday, April 2 nd at 9:30 a.m. for the Retreat and at 1:00 p.m. for the Apokathelosis. Fr. Constantine will make excusal forms available for those who might need them. Pascha/Easter, April 4 th for the Resurrection, 12 midnight and April 22 nd for St. George Vespers at 7:00 p.m. HOLY COMMUNION- Holy Communion will be offered on April 1 st, 3rd, 4 th, 9 th and 23 rd. Holy Communion is truly the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ and becomes fire burning the unworthy. For this reason we appeal to your love that before receiving Holy Communion you take care to make your Holy Confession, receive the permission of your Spiritual Father, and prepare with the required fast as established by the Holy Fathers of the Church. RESPECT FOR THE RESURRECTED CHRIST- Show your respect for the Resurrected Christ by remaining for the entire Divine Liturgy. It is the height of irreverence, disrespect and faithlessness to exit the Church just when the Resurrected Christ appears to us in His glory and beckons us to come forward and taste His graciousness in the Sacrament of Holy Communion. For the 40 days of Lent and Holy Week we anticipate this joyous moment of Christ s victory over death. It is inconceivable to me that upon hearing the good news that our Savior has resurrected we choose to excuse ourselves from His presence. If anything, our desire to be with Him after His Passion should be our only desire. Are we to abandon Him again just like His disciples? Are we in such a rush to sit at our paschal table? Have not 40 days of fasting taught us to throw off the shackles of servitude to our bellies? Give your priest the opportunity to personally greet you with the words, "Christ is Risen and to give you a red paschal egg at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy! And join your fellow parishioners for the Anastasis Fellowship Reception after dismissal of the Liturgy (2:30 a.m.) EASTER OFFERING-Glorifying His holy Resurrection, let us make a generous contribution to His Church. Let your gift reflect your faith in Him, as well as your appreciation and gratitude that He ascended the Cross of His own free will and was crucified for you and me and in place of you and me. Be moved to return love for love! Send your treasure in the

SUNDAY SCHOOL 22 nd ANNUAL ST. JOHN CHRYSOSTOM ORATORICAL FESTIVAL On Sunday, March 7, the Sunday School held its Twenty Second Saint John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival. The event is open to all grades from First to Twelfth Grade. Farther Constantine, the Parish Council and the Sunday School would like to thank and congratulate all the participants in this year's festival. THE GREEK SCHOOL PTA The Independence Day program was a success thanks to Keria Vula and the hard work of the Greek school students. We would like to thank all the parents who helped set up for the program and for baking and purchasing sweets. Thanks to Pete Amanatides for handling the electronics for the program and to Tom Kouros for donating the skordalia. The Greek Independence Day parade on Halsted in Chicago will take place on JR. OLYMPICS Plans are already underway for this year s Metropolis Jr. Olympics Program, which will be held on the weekend of May 28-30, at SS. Constantine & Helen in Palos Hills, IL. The Olympics are for our youth ages 8-18 years old who may compete in various track and field events, along with soccer, tennis, swimming, softball, volleyball, and much, much more. More details will be forthcoming, however, we do need coaches and chaperones if we are to field a variety of teams and athletes. To volunteer your time or to sign up, contact Mrs. Eliana Grahovac (219) FANARI CAMP Our Metropolis of Chicago summer youth camp will be held June 20 26, 2010 at the Green Lake Conference Center in Green Lake, Wisconsin. The FANARI CAMP

8 EXPERIENCE is one that all our youth should take advantage of and participate in. It gives our children an opportunity to meet other Orthodox youth, while spending time learning about our faith in a fun and Orthodox Christian environment. If your child is interested in this camp experience, please contact either Father Constantine or the youth advisors or stop by the Church office shelf for an application form. Age for campers is or entering grades 6 th 11 th. Early Bird Rate Deadline April 15, 2010: $425-2 children $800-3 Children $1,200; First Registration Deadline May 1, 2010: $450-2 children $850-3 children $1,275; Second Registration Deadline June 1, 2010: $475-2 children $900-3 children $1,250. Late Registrations after June 1 st : $500 2 children $950 3 children $1,425. (All campers must be from one family.) This includes transportation, meals, lodging and activity fees. ADULT RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (A.R.E.) The parishioners who attend this group have as their goal to increase their knowledge and understanding of our precious Orthodox Christian Faith. We will be meeting on Monday, April 19 and 26. We continue to study the last book of Holy Scripture, the Book of Revelation. This will be a Bible Study format. Each session begins with a Small Compline Service at 7:00 p.m. From 7:30-9:00 p.m., we continue with the Bible Study allowing for plenty of questions and answers. ALL ARE WELCOME!!! FEAST DAY CELEBRATION To the Beloved Parishioners of St. George, In just a few weeks, our Holy Church will celebrate its Name Day.
