We urge you to come forward & register, or nominate a person who you believe would serve our Community and contribute to the growth and well-being of our Church, Greek school & Hellenic culture. Ανακοινώσεις Ο Σύλλογος Σαμίων & Νήσων Αιγαίου & Ιονίου Πελάγους διοργανώνει γεύμα για να γιορτάσει την 40 η επέτειο από την ίδρυση του Συλλόγου Σαμίων και την 10 η επέτειο από τότε που o Σύλλογος συμπεριέλαβε και άλλους νησιώτες του Αιγαίου και Ιονίου Πελάγους. Ελληνική Κοινότητας - Γενική Συνέλευση: 22 Νοεμβρίου Η Ελληνική Κοινότητα καλεί τα μέλη της σε Γενική Συνέλευση την Τρίτη, 22 Νοεμβρίου, στις 6.30 μ.μ., στο χωλ του ναού. Η Ημερήσια Διάταξη καθώς και άλλες, σχετικές, λεπτομέρειες έχουν αποσταλεί στα μέλη, ταχυδρομικώς. Σας υπενθυμίζουμε ότι, σύμφωνα με τους Εσωτερικούς Κανονισμούς της Κοινότητας, για να έχετε δικαίωμα να λάβετε το λόγο ή/και να ψηφίσετε, κατά τη διεξαγωγή της Γενικής Συνέλευσης, πρέπει να έχετε εξοφλήσει τη συνδρομή σας για τα έτη 2015 και Πνευματική Σύναξη με τον Μητροπολίτη μας 26 Νοεμβρίου Η Φιλόπτωχος Αδελφότης προσκαλεί τα μέλη της σε μια Πνευματική Συνάντηση που θα πραγματοποιηθεί το Σάββατο, 26 Νοεμβρίου. Το πρωί (9-10) θα τελεσθεί Αρχιερατική Θεία Λειτουργία από τον Σεβασμιώτατο Μητροπολίτη Τορόντο (Καναδά) κ.κ. Σωτήριο και θα ακολουθήσει Πνευματική Σύναξη. Στη συνέχεια θα γίνει Γενική Συνέλευση και Εκλογές στο χωλ του ναού. Θα προσφερθεί γεύμα. Η είσοδος είναι δωρεάν. Για να κλείσετε θέση παρακαλείσθε να επικοινωνήσετε με την Αργυρώ Λαύκα στο (613) ή Φιλόπτωχος Αδελφότης Pajama Drive Η Φιλόπτωχος Αδελφότης, για τρίτη κατά σειρά χρονιά, διοργανώνει Pajama Drive και σας καλεί να την στηρίξετε. Όπως και τα προηγούμενα χρόνια, η προσπάθεια αυτή αποβλέπει στο να συγκεντρωθούν πιτζάμες για παιδιά των οποίων οι οικογένειες αντιμετωπίζουν φτώχεια, εθισμό, ενδοοικογενειακή και θέματα ψυχικής υγείας. Μέσω αυτού του προγράμματος, μπορείτε να συμβάλετε σε έναν «πιο ζεστό και πιο όμορφο ύπνο» για αυτά τα παιδιά. Οι πιτζάμες πρέπει να είναι για παιδιά ηλικίας 3 μηνών έως και 12 ετών και, επιπλέον, να είναι καινούργιες και αμεταχείριστες. Μπορείτε να αφήνετε τις πιτζάμες: τις Κυριακές στο χωλ του ναού, στο γραφείο του ιερού ναού κατά τη διάρκεια της εβδομάδας και στο Ελληνικό Σχολείο τα Σάββατα. Εάν δεν έχετε χρόνο να ψωνίσετε οι ίδιοι, μπορείτε να δώσετε τη δωρεά σας στην Φιλόπτωχο που θα φροντίσει κάνει την αγορά εκ μέρους σας. Η Φιλόπτωχος Αδελφότης θα έχει το ετήσιο χριστουγεννιάτικο δείπνο της, στις 28 Νοεμβρίου, στις 6 μ.μ., στο εστιατόριο Dinty Moores (620 chemin D Aylmer, Gatineau). 3 Ανακοινώσεις Βοήθεια σε άπορες οικογένειες επ ευκαιρία των Εορτών Εάν θέλετε να συνεισφέρετε στην προσπάθεια της Φιλοπτώχου να βοηθήσει άπορες οικογένειες κατά την περίοδο των Εορτών, παρακαλείσθε να φέρετε τρόφιμα, που διατηρούνται εκτός ψυγείου, πριν από τις 15 Δεκεμβρίου. Με την δική σας βοήθεια θα δώσουμε χαρά σε πολλές οικογένειες και εφέτος τα Χριστούγεννα. Σύλλογος Ηλικιωμένων «Βραδιά Ταβέρνας» -18 Νοεμβρίου Την Παρασκευή, 18 Νοεμβρίου, στις 5.30 μ.μ., στην Εστία Ηλικιωμένων θα πραγματοποιηθεί η «Βραδιά Ταβέρνας» με εξαιρετικό φαγητό, μουσική και διασκέδαση. Στολισμός χριστουγεννιάτικου δέντρου - 3 Δεκεμβρίου Το Σάββατο, 3 Δεκεμβρίου, στις 5.00 το απόγευμα, όπως κάθε χρόνο, τα παιδιά θα στολίσουν το χριστουγεννιάτικο δέντρο στον Ιερό μας Ναό. Θα ακολουθήσει δείπνος για τα παιδιά και τις οικογένειές τους. Χριστουγεννιάτικο δείπνο Ο Σύλλογος Αρκάδων «Θεόδωρος Κολοκοτρώνης» διοργανώνει χριστουγεννιάτικο δείπνο με πλούσιο μενού, για τα μέλη και τους φίλους του που θα πραγματοποιηθεί την Κυριακή, 4 Δεκεμβρίου στις 5.30 μ.μ. στο Κοινοτικό Κέντρο. Epistle of St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 7: 26-28; 8: 1-2 My mouth shall speak wisdom and the meditation of my heart shall bring forth understanding. Verse: Hear this all you nations. Brethren, it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless, unstained, separated from sinners, exalted above the heavens. He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; he did this once for all when he offered up himself. Indeed, the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect for ever. Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister in the sanctuary and the true tent which is set up not by man but by the Lord. The Gospel Reading: St. Luke: 8: At that time, a lawyer stood up to put Jesus to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" He said to him, "What is written in the law? 4 Announcements The Samian, Aegean & Ionian Islands Society are celebrating their 40 th Anniversary of the Samian Society and 10 th Anniversary with the Aegean and Ionian Islands with a Luncheon at the Banquet Centre TODAY following the Divine Liturgy. Tickets are $25 for Adults and $12 for Children 12 years & under Senior Citizens Association Taverna Night November 18th The Senior Citizens Association will be holding their Taverna Night on Friday, November 18 th at 5:30 p.m., at the Seniors Centre. This will be an evening full of great food, excellent music, and fun times for all. The cost for this evening is $20 per person. Daughters of Penelope Fashion Show November 29 th "Flutter into Fashion with the Ottawa Daughters of Penelope at Shepherd's on Tuesday, November 29, We are hosting a fashion show raising awareness and funds for Jonathan Pitre also known as the "Butterfly Child. He is suffering from a terrible and very painful skin condition. It will be held at Shepherd's Fashions located in the Train Yards next to David's Bridal Shop. Doors open at 6:00pm. We will be selling tickets after church for the next few weeks so look out for us! Community General Assembly - November 22 Please mark your calendar for the Community s General Assembly, to be held on Tuesday, November 22nd at 6:30 p.m. at the Church Hall. All members are encouraged to participate; details have been sent to the members by mail. We would like to remind you that according to the Community By-laws you must have paid the 2015 & 2016 membership dues in order to have the right to express an opinion or vote at the General Assembly. Christmas Baskets The Ladies of Philoptochos are organizing their annual Christmas Basket program for needy families in the Ottawa area. If you are able to contribute, please bring non-perishable food items to the church by December 15th. With your assistance, we can cheer up the homes of many families again this Christmas. Philoptochos - Pajama Drive Please help the Greek Ladies Philoptochos for the third year provide new cozy pajamas to children in need in Ottawa and the Greater Ottawa Valley. These families face difficult challenges such as poverty, addiction, domestic violence and mental health issues. Through the Pajama Drive, you are contributing to a warmer, more loving bedtime. The pajamas are to be new and unused, a complete set for ages 3 months to 12 years old. Please feel free to drop off pajamas on Sundays in the Church Hall; during the week in the Church office; or on Saturdays at Greek School. No time to shop, please make a donation to Philoptochos for pajamas and we will buy them for you. Announcements Philoptochos Spiritual Retreat with Archbishop Sotirios November 26th. Followed by a General Assembly & Elections The Greek Ladies Philoptochos Society invites their members to join them for a special Spiritual Retreat on Saturday, November 26th. The day will begin with Divine Liturgy at our Church from 9:00-10:00 a.m., by His Eminence Metropolitan Archbishop Sotirios. A light luncheon will be provided, followed by the Spiritual Retreat, General Assembly and Elections in the Church Hall. This event is offered free of charge. Arcadian Association Christmas Dinner December 4 th The Arcadian Association invites all its members and friends to an enjoyable Christmas Dinner on Sunday December 4 th at 5:30 p.m. at the Banquet Centre. 5 Remembrance Remembrance Day is a day to remember much. My Dad a veteran himself started putting one Remembrance Day Poppy each year in the frame of a picture he liked. A picture of four little girls singing carols. It s the top of a large 1921 Met Life calendar. I had to open and look, curiosity and discovery are a good thing. They had nice calendars then. He bought it framed. My Mom painted it gold, nice job, nice picture. I think my Dad liked it because he was from a family of five boys and he had three boys, no sisters, no daughters. Most poppies in the frame have the black center, a few have the green none have both the black and green, which was phased out in He started his collection later. Every year since his passing I add one more poppy to that picture. It becomes more beautiful every year. One more way to remember a beautiful person. Remembrance Day is a day to remember much. Those that didn t know you but did their best to help, those you love and loved and loved you and those you don t know but should love and help. If one of us was on this Earth alone we would disappear. Without helping and loving we would be gone. Every person you see; too fast on the road, too slow in the line may be contributing some way through helping and loving. Everyone is a little different and we feel different some days, still they may be contributing, even to you in some way. Remembrance Day is a day to remember people, not the conflicts between them. The beauty of tolerance, acceptance, helping and loving will hopefully change Remembrance from conflicts and sadness to loving, peace and joy. It s nice we set aside one day to catch our attention and focus on what we should be feeling every day. I have a beautiful picture, from a beautiful person I see and focus on every day. By Jim (Pericles) Calogeracos A Poppy history Ημέρα Μνήμης Η Ημέρα Μνήμης είναι μια ημέρα που φέρνει πολλά στο νου. Στο σπίτι μας είχαμε μια φωτογραφία που παρίστανε τέσσερα μικρά κορίτσια να ψάλλουν τα κάλαντα. Ήταν μια σελίδα από ένα ημερολόγιο της Met Life του Είχαν όμορφα ημερολόγια κάποτε! Σε αυτή, λοιπόν, τη φωτογραφία κάθε χρόνο, κατά την Ημέρα Μνήμης, ο πατέρας μου, που ήταν κι ο ίδιος Παλαίμαχος, άρχισε να βάζει μια κόκκινη παπαρούνα. Νομίζω πως η συγκεκριμένη φωτογραφία του άρεσε γιατί ο ίδιος είχε τέσσερις αδερφούς και καμμιά αδερφή. Κι ακόμα, έκανε τρεις γιους αλλά καμμιά κόρη. Κάποτε, της έβαλε κορνίζα και η μητέρα μου την έβαψε με χρυσή μπογιά. Καλή δουλειά! Όμορφο κάδρο! Οι περισσότερες παπαρούνες που είναι στο κάδρο έχουν μαύρο κέντρο, λίγες έχουν πράσινο αλλά καμμιά δεν έχει μαύρο και πράσινο μαζί που καταργήθηκε το Ο πατέρας μου άρχισε τη συλλογή του αργότερα. Κάθε χρόνο, από το θάνατο του πατέρα μου και μετά, προσθέτω μία παπαρούνα στο κάδρο που γίνεται όλο και πιο όμορφο. Ένας ακόμα τρόπος για να θυμάμαι έναν «όμορφο» άνθρωπο. Η Ημέρα Μνήμης είναι η ημέρα που μας φέρνει στο νου πολλά. Εκείνους που, αν και δεν μας γνώριζαν, έκαναν ό,τι μπορούσαν για να υπερασπίσουν αυτούς που αγαπάμε και μας αγαπούν αλλά κι άλλους που μας είναι άγνωστοι. Αν ήμασταν μόνοι μας στη γη, θα χανόμασταν. Χωρίς αγάπη και βοήθεια από άλλους δεν θα υπήρχαμε. Ο κάθε συνάνθρωπος που βλέπουμε να τρέχει, ίσως, με το αυτοκίνητό του ή να περιμένει στη γραμμή αναμονής μπορεί να συμβάλλει στο κοινό καλό, με τον δικό του τρόπο, κι ίσως, κατά κάποιο τρόπο, να βοηθάει κι εσένα. Η Ημέρα Μνήμης είναι μια επέτειος για να θυμόμαστε «τον άνθρωπο» και όχι τις συγκρούσεις μεταξύ τους. Η ομορφιά που προέρχεται από την ανοχή, την αποδοχή, τη βοήθεια και την αγάπη προς τους άλλους ας αλλάξει την Ημέρα Μνήμης από ημέρα που θυμίζει πολέμους και θλίψεις σε ημέρα ειρήνης και χαράς. Όσο όμορφη κι αν είναι αυτή η ημέρα και όσο κι αν την ξεχωρίζουμε, καλό θα ήτανε να στρέφαμε την προσοχή μας στο τι θα πρέπει να αισθανόμαστε καθημερινά. Εγώ, έχω ένα πολύ όμορφο κάδρο, από έναν πολύ «όμορφο» άνθρωπο κι εκεί στρέφω την προσοχή μου κάθε ημέρα. ~Δημήτριος Περικλής Καλογεράκος
