VAL S MEN S CLUB ELEVATOR FUND DONATIONS On the Sunday that falls from the 13th to the 19th of the present month, we chant the Service to the Holy and God-bearing Fathers who came together in the Seven Ecumenical Councils, that is: the First Council, of the 318 Fathers who assembled in Nicaea in 325 to condemn Arius, who denied that the Son of God is consubstantial with the Father; the Fathers of the First Council also ordained that the whole Church should celebrate Pascha according to the same reckoning; the Second Council, of the 150 Fathers who assembled in Constantinople in 381 to condemn Macedonius, Patriarch of Constantinople, who denied the Divinity of the Holy Spirit; the Third Council, of the 200 Fathers who assembled in Ephesus in 431, to condemn Nestorius, Patriarch of Constantinople, who called Christ a mere man and not God incarnate; the Fourth Council, of the 630 who assembled in Chalcedon in 451, to condemn Eutyches, who taught that there was only one nature, the divine, in Christ after the Incarnation, and Dioscorus, Patriarch of Alexandria, who illegally received Eutyches back into communion and deposed Saint Flavian, Patriarch of Constantinople, who had excommunicated Eutyches; the Fifth Council in 553, of the 165 who assembled in Constantinople for the second time to condemn Origen and Theodore of Mopsuestia, the teacher of Nestorius; the Sixth Council in 680, of the 170 who assembled in Constantinople for the third time, to condemn the Monothelite heresy, which taught that there is in Christ but one will, the divine; and the Seventh Council in 787, of the 350 who assembled in Nicaea for the second time to condemn Iconoclasm. 2 15

Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." With generous donations from various organizations, ministries, individuals and bequests we are able to fund this worthwhile endeavor. It is our belief that we must support the amazing camping ministry of our Metropolis and in addition, recommit and reconnect our children to the faith and fellowship of Orthodoxy. We invite others that share our commitment to donate to the Kids to Camp Fund to maintain this valuable undertaking. If your child is interested in participating please fill out the following form and submit it to the church office. CEMETERY VISITS Due to the number of sacraments, 40 day blessings and memorials on Sundays it is difficult to make cemetery visits on Sundays after liturgy. If you would like a Trisagion at the graveside during the week you are kindly asked to make an appointment by calling the church office. HOSPITAL VISITS Due to HIPAA privacy rules, hospitals no longer provide a list of Orthodox patients to us. Therefore, if you or a loved one are, or will be, in the hospital, please contact the church office for a pastoral visit. Also, please notify the office if a friend or family member is in a rehab center, nursing home, assisted living facility or under hospice care. 8 PANAGIA S GARDEN SUMMER DAY CAMP PROGRAM This year our program will run from Monday, August 1-Friday, August 5th from 9am-4pm. Children ages 4-10 are welcome to attend. Please contact Fr. WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS Everyone is welcome in the Orthodox Church and may receive the blessed bread (antidoron) at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy. Sadly, the divisions in the church prompt us all to work towards reunited Christianity. The culmination of this reunion will be the ability of all Christians to receive the Eucharist together. Until that blessed day arrives, only Orthodox Christians who are in good sacramental order are permitted to receive Holy Communion in the Orthodox Church. If you have any questions or concerns please speak with Father Chris. USING KNEELERS IN CHURCH Koimisis of the Theotokos Please exercise care when lowering your kneeler in Church. If you are using your foot to lower the kneeler please have your foot support the kneeler until it gently touches the floor. The multiple banging of the kneelers is a great distraction at the most solemn moment of the Divine Liturgy. Thank you for your attention to this issue. SAINT MARKINA The sisterhood of Saint Makrina will celebrate the Feast Day of their patron Saint, Saint Makrina, on Tuesday July 19th with the Divine Liturgy and Artoclasia. There will be a coffee hour after the Liturgy and Father Anthony will lead a discussion on "The Family of Saints" the family of Saint Vasilios and his sister Saint Makrina. All are invited to this blessed celebration honoring our Patron Saint, Saint Vasilios and his family. 8 9
