DAUGHTERS OF PENELOPE The next Daughters Membership meeting is today, Sunday, February 22, following the Divine Liturgy. The Chapter will celebrate its 78th Anniversary, founded February 26, Events, activities, and charity programs for 2015 will be discussed. Please plan to attend. GREEK FESTIVAL PASTRY WORKSHOPS Greek Festival Pastry Workshops are back in full swing. Please come help on Tuesday, February 24, and Wednesday, February 25, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. Lunch is provided. HTC YOUTH SOCCER SESSIONS Soccer enthusiasts will be happy to hear that the spring sessions for HTC Youth Soccer will begin this Friday, February 27, at 5:30 pm. PHILOPTOCHOS WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN PHILOPTOCHOS? Many ladies have already joined Philoptochos during the annual Philoptochos Membership Campaign, which has been in full swing since January 1. You may be asking yourself why you should join. As a member of Philoptochos you would reap the following: Enjoy giving your time, talents, and treasures to creatively fulfill charitable goals and commitments of our community, our Church, and the National Philoptochos Work on the activities of the established Standing and Special Committees, which help the needs of all those requiring assistance Offer your ideas and suggest new charities and ways to provide services to our community Participate in hands-on projects such as No-Sew Blankets for the sick, Mats for the Homeless, and IOCC Baby Kits while enjoying the benefits of fellowship Philoptochos welcomes you to its next meeting on Saturday, March 28, 2015, in the Coffee Room at 10:30 am. HTC COMMUNITY WIDE FOOD DRIVE Philoptochos is sponsoring an HTC Community wide food drive. The holidays are over, but hunger is not. Please bring food items to help the needy families within our community. The most essential items are canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned meat (tuna, chicken, beef), canned soup, cereal, pasta, and rice. There is a collection bin in the Coffee Room. 2 150TH WRAP UP MEETING There will be a 150th Anniversary Wrap Up Meeting this Thursday, February 26, at 7:00 pm in the Hellenic Cultural Center. Results of the Holy Trinity 150th Anniversary Celebration events will be discussed and a financial status will be provided. Please attend. HOLY WEEK-EASTER BOOKS A new shipment of Holy Week-Easter books has arrived. They are published in the original Greek with a new modern English translation on the opposing pages. Each is $25 and may be purchased from the Cathedral office or in the Narthex from a Parish Council member. PTA SOUPER FUNDRAISER Holy Trinity PTA is distributing the Lenten soup orders in the Coffee Room today, Sunday, February 22. To pick up your items, please see Chairperson Vicki McCallef after church services and make checks payable to the HOLY TRINITY PTA. Thank you to the chefs, who prepared the delicious selections, and to the individuals, who supported this project. SAVE THE DATE! THE SUNDAY OF ORTHODOXY ICON March 1, 2015, is the Sunday of Orthodoxy when the faithful celebrate the restoration of the icons in our churches and for our private devotional life. The Archives Committee will have a small exhibit of icons that represent the many different national origins within our community. The icons will be loaned to us for this special occasion by Holy Trinity congregants. This exhibition will also celebrate the Sunday of Orthodoxy by representing the unity of our Orthodox Christian faith around the world. The exhibit will be available for viewing in the Coffee Room after Divine Liturgy during the coffee hour. Focus is placed on the exile of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden, an event that shows us how far we have fallen in sin and separated ourselves from God. At the onset of Great Lent and a period of intense fasting, this Sunday reminds us of our need for God s forgiveness and guides our hearts, minds, and spiritual efforts on returning to Him in repentance. Cheesefare Sunday, also called Sunday of Forgiveness Today is called Cheesefare Sunday because it is the last day dairy products or eggs are eaten before Easter for those keeping the Lenten Fast. It is also called Sunday of Forgiveness, which refers to the onset of Great Lent, a period of intense fasting and a reminder of our need for God s forgiveness. Great Lent guides our hearts, minds, and spiritual efforts on returning to Him in repentance. The first day of Great Lent is tomorrow, February 23, and is called Clean Monday.

Let us then cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; let us conduct ourselves becomingly as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. As for the man who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not for disputes over opinions. One believes he may eat anything, while the weak man eats only vegetables. Let not him who eats despise him who abstains, and let not him who abstains pass judgment on him who eats; for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for God is able to make him stand. THE GOSPEL Matthew 6:14-21 The Lord said, "If you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you; but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. "And when you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face that your fasting may not be seen by men but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
