Progress of ApoE Research Li Hui2cheng Li Yu2xin ( Institute of Cytology and Genetics, Northeast Normal University ChuangChun, Jilin Province,China 130024) Abstract Apolipoprotein (apo) E plays an important role in lipid metabolism and the major isoforms of apo E (apoe2,apoe3 and apoe4) have significantly different metabolic effect. ApoE4 is associated with a higher risk of both heart disease and Alzheimser s disease (AD). The apoe4 allele also negatively influences functional recovery following a variety of brain insults. Patients homozygous for apoe2 are predisposed to type hyperlipoproteinemia and apoe2 may be protective against AD. ApoE3 is the most common phenotype, which plays a key role in lipid metabolism. In vitro and animal model studies strongly suggest that the polymorphism of apoe in plasma is associated with cardiovascular disease, hyperlipoproteinemia and atherosclerosis. The brain apoe with potential roles in amyloid deposition and clearance, micro2 tubule stability and other cellular process is associated with AD. It is vital to explore the mechanism of their structure and pathogenesis at molecular level, which are helpful to understand the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of the diseas2 es. rosis Key words ApolipoproteinE Alzheimer s Disease Cardiovascular Disease Hyperlipoproteinemia Atheroscle2 (84 ) Progress in Molecular Breeding of Ornamental Plants Xue Huai Liu Min 3 Zhang Chunhua Pan Yi ( Institute of Genetics,The Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100101) Abstract Advances of research in molecular breeding of ornamental plants in the world in recent years were re2 viewed. Cross and selection are still the main processes to breed new ornamental cultivars,by which most of new cultivars were produced. But they have limitations. Some advanced breeding methods including molecular breeding were paid more attention to and became the focus of the ornamental plants breeding, and gained many research on exciting achievements.
