Genitive Absolute The genitive absolute construction functions as a switch reference device it is used when the subject of the participle is different from the subject of the main verb. περιπατούσης Μαρίας εἶδεν αὐτήν. While Mary was walking, he saw her.

Genitive Absolute Absolute : no grammatical connection Noun or pronoun and a participle in the genitive that are not grammatically connected to the rest of the sentence. Noun/Pronoun functions as the subject
