Κι αρχή-κι αρχή καλός μας χρόνος εκκλησιά-εκκλησιά με τ' άγιο θρόνος. Αρχή που βγήκε ο Χριστός άγιος και πνευματικός, στη γη-στη γη να περπατήσει και να μας-και να μας καλοκαρδίσει. Άγιος Βασίλης έρχεται -άρχοντες το κατέχετε-από-από την Καισαρεία σύ 'σ' αρχό- συ 'σ' αρχόντισσα κυρία. Βαστά εικόνα και χαρτί ζαχαροκάρνο, ζυμωτή χαρτί και καλαμάρι,δες και με-δες και με το παλικάρι. Το καλαμάρι έγραφε, τη μοίρα του την έλεγε, και το χαρτί-και το χαρτί ομίλει, Άγιε μου-άγιε μου καλέ Βασίλη. Και νέον έτος αριθμεί, την του Χριστού περιτομή, και η μνήμη του Αγίου Ιεράρχου Βασιλείου. Του χρόνου μας αρχή καλή, και ο Χριστός μας προσκαλεί,την κακία ν' αρνηθούμε, μ' αρετές να στολιστούμε. Να ζούμε βίον τέλειον, κατά το ευαγγέλιον με αγάπη με ειρήνη, και με τη δικαιοσύνη. Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord, THE AGIASMA JANUARY 2012 VOL. 3, ISSUE 1 A Message by Fr. Sarantis As we begin this new year, it is with a majestic joy that my first words to you are to wish you and yours a very blessed and healthy New Year filled with all the gifts that the Lord Jesus brought to earth with Him with His birth, love, peace, health, prosperity, and many more as your heart desires. As we are entering this New Year, as a society, we think and we are preoccupied with time. We are people of the clock, the schedule day-timer. At New Year s Day, we reflect to last year and we look forward to the coming one. This is fine, but we know that we can only actually live in the present moment. The past and future only exist in our minds as memories and expectations. Our thoughts are too preoccupied with past and future, and too often those thoughts are negative, either regret or concern. One of the basic truths of our spiritual lives is that we can only know God in the present moment where we live. For God, there is no time, no past or future. God meets us in the present; this should certainly encourage us to live more in the present. This also leads us to another basic resolution for us; that is that each day I can repent of my failures in the past and turn myself with hope to the present day, trusting God to help me do what is right and good. Each day I can make a new start. Here are a few little present moments / resolutions, challenges for all of us to make a new start every day. If you are motivated you can try to work on all of them at once, but I would suggest that you take one of these a week. This coming week, pray about and work on number one. The following week, keep doing one, and add number two, etc. These commandments, resolutions, challenges (as one may think of them) are ways of relating to God and people and fundamental to our Christian life. Try them; I am sure you will have a happy day. 1. TODAY I WILL TREAT OTHERS THE WAY I WISH TO BE TREATED. I will practice the golden rule, "Do Unto others as I would have them do unto me"--with everyone I encounter. 2. TODAY I WILL BE CAREFUL ABOUT WHAT I SAY. I will carefully choose and guard my words, being certain that I do not listen to or spread gossip. I will not criticize others. 3. TODAY I WILL NOT STRIKE BACK. If someone is rude, if someone is impatient, if someone is unkind, I will not respond in a like manner. I will overcome evil with good. 4. TODAY I WILL DO SOMETHING KIND FOR SOMEONE, BUT I WILL DO IT IN SECRET. I will reach out anonymously and bless the life of another person. 5. TODAY I WILL RAISE THE SPIRITS OF SOMEONE WHO IS DISCOURAGED. With God s help, I will use my smile, words, expression of support to make a difference to someone who is struggling in life. 6. TODAY I WILL GO THE EXTRA MILE. I will find a way to help share the burden of another person. 7. TODAY I WILL FORGIVE. I will forgive any hurts or injuries that come my way. I will try to let go of anger from hurts and injuries in the past. I will love even those who have hurt me. 8. TODAY I WILL ASK GOD TO BLESS MY ENEMY. If I come across someone who treats me harshly or unfairly, I will quietly ask God to bless that individual. I understand that my "enemy" could be a family member, a neighbor, a parishioner, a co-worker, or a stranger. 9. TODAY I WILL NURTURE MY BODY. I will eat less. I will exercise a little. If this is a fast day, I will fast from meat and (dairy - if possible.) I will eat healthy foods. I will thank God for my body. 10. TODAY I WILL DO SOMETHING TO NUTURE MY SPIRITUAL LIFE. I will spend a little more time in prayer. I will read the bible; I will find a quiet place to be with God and to listen to God. A happy resolution to all of you! A Happy New Year too! THE AGIASMA JANUARY 2012 VOL. 3, ISSUE 1 Αγαπητοί μου αδελφοί εν Κυρίω Ιησού Χριστώ: Πρωτοχρονιάτικο Μήνυμα του Πατέρα Σαράντη Μετά ιδιαιτέρας χαράς, καθώς αρχίζουμε το Νέο Χρόνο 2012, οι πρώτες λέξεις μου είναι να σας ευχηθώ ένα ευλογημένο Νέο Έτος 2012, γεμάτο μ όλα τα αγαθά που ο Κύριος έφερε στη γη μαζί Του με τη Θεία γέννηση Του, αγάπη, ειρήνη, υγεία, πρόοδο και ότι άλλο επιθυμεί η καρδιά σας. Κάθε χρόνο αυτές τις ημέρες, ως κοινότητα ή ως άνθρωπος σκεπτόμαστε και είμαστε ανήσυχοι με τη ώρα, τον χρόνο. Είμαστε άνθρωποι του ρολογιού. Έτσι κάθε Πρωτοχρονιά στρέφουμε το μυαλό μας πίσω στα συμβαίνοντα του περασμένου χρόνου καθώς και προγραμματίζουμε για το μέλλον του νέου χρόνου. Όλοι μας όμως γνωρίζουμε ότι ζούμε στο παρόν. Τα περασμένα και το μέλλον βρίσκονται στο νου μας μόνο ως μνήμες και ως προσδοκίες. Οι περισσότερες σκέψεις μας είναι κατά το πλείστον αρνητικές, φαίνονται ως λύπες ή στενοχώριες. Μιά από τις πιό σοβαρές αλήθειες της πνευματικής μας ζωής είναι ότι γνωρίζουμε το Θεό μόνο στο παρόν, στις στιγμές που ζούμε. Για το Θεό δεν υπάρχει παρελθόν ούτε μέλλον. Ο Θεός μας βλέπει στο παρόν, τώρα. Γνωρίζοντας αυτό, τώρα πρέπει να μας ενθουσιάσει να ζούμε στο παρόν, το οποίο θα μας οδηγήσει να έλθουμε σε μια βασική αλλαγή της ζωής μας. Δηλαδή, κάθε μέρα μπορώ να μετανοώ για τα περασμένα λάθη και να στρέφω τις σκέψεις μου μ ελπίδα στο παρόν εμπιστεύοντας τον Θεό να μας βοηθήσει να κάνουμε αυτό που είναι το καλό και το σωστό για μια νέα πνευματική αρχή ζωής. Ορίστε μερικές αλλαγές, νέες αποφάσεις, προκλήσεις για όλους μας να κάνουμε αρχίζοντας τη νέα ημέρα μας. Μπορεί κάποιος να αρχίσει μια από τις παρακάτω αποφάσεις κάθε εβδομάδα και αφού τη κατορθώνει, την κρατά και προσθέτει μια νέα αλλαγή τη επόμενη εβδομάδα. Αυτές οι νέες αποφάσεις ή αλλαγές συμπεριφοράς ζωής είναι τρόποι ζωής που συνδέουμε σχέσεις με το Θεό και με το πλησίον μας. Είναι η βάση της Χριστιανικής μας ζωής. Δοκίμασε και θα δεις, δεν θα απογοητευθείς. Θα έχεις μια ωραία ευχάριστη ημέρα της ζωής σου. 1. Σήμερα θα συμπεριφέρομαι προς τους άλλους όπως θέλω οι άλλοι να μου συμπεριφέρονται. Θα πράξω το Χρυσό Κανόνα. «κάνε στους άλλους όπως θέλεις οι άλλοι να πράξουν σ σένα» με όποιο συναντήσω. 2. Σήμερα θα είμαι πολύ προσεκτικός στο λόγο μου. Με ιδιαίτερη προσοχή θα επιλέγω τα λόγια μου, και θα κάνω κάθε προσπάθεια να μην ακούσω ή να μεταφέρνω κουτσομπολιό. Δεν θα κατακρίνω τους άλλους. 3. Σήμερα δεν θα μιλήσω πίσω αρνητικά. Εάν κάποιος μου φερθεί με αγένεια, ή ανήσυχα δεν θα απαντήσω με το ίδιο τρόπο. Θα νικήσω το κακό με κάτι καλό. 4. Σήμερα θα κάνω κάτι καλό σε κάποιον αλλά θα το κάνω στα κρυφά. Θα επεκτείνω κρυφά τη ελεημοσύνη μου και θα ευλογήσω τη ζωή κάποιου άλλου ανθρώπου. 5. Σήμερα θα μετατρέψω τη λύπη σε χαρά σε κάποιο στενοχωρημένο. Με τη βοήθεια του θεού θα χρησιμοποιήσω το χαμόγελο, τα λόγια και εκφράσεις υποστηρίξεως σε κάποιο με δύσκολες στιγμές. 6. Σήμερα θα δώσω όλες τις δυνάμεις μου. Θα βρω τρόπο βοηθείας να ξελαφρώσω κάποιο πεπιεσμένο πρόσωπο απο τις ανάγκες του. 7. Σήμερα θα συγχωρήσω. Θα συγχωρήσω όλα αυτά που μ έχουν λυπήσει. Θα προσπαθήσω να ξεχάσω το θυμό που προέρχεται από τις κακίες των άλλων. Θα αγαπήσω όλους που μ έχουν βλάψει. 8. Σήμερα θα προσευχηθώ στο Θεό να ευλογήσει τον εχθρό μου. Εάν έλθω σ επαφή με κάποιο που θα με στενοχωρήσει μ αδικίες, ταπεινά θα προσευχηθώ στο Θεό να τον ευλογήσει. Καταλαβαίνω ότι ο εχθρός μου ίσως να είναι μέλος της οικογενείας μου, ή γείτονας, ή ενορίτης, ή κάποιος άγνωστος. 9. Σήμερα θα θρέψω το σώμα μου. Θα φάγω λίγο φαγητό. Θα ασκηθώ λιγάκι. Θα νηστέψω εάν είναι νηστεία από κρέας (και γαλακτικά εάν είναι δυνατόν.) Θα τρέφομαι με τροφές υγείας. Και θα ευχαριστώ τον Θεό για τη ζωή μου. 10. Σήμερα θα κάνω κάτι να τροφοδοτήσω και τη πνευματική μου ζωή. Θα εξοδεύσω λίγη περισσότερη ώρα για προσευχή. Θα μελετήσω την Αγία Γραφή. Θα βρω ένα ήσυχο μέρος για να προσηλωθώ και να ακούσω τον Θεό. Σας εύχομαι καλές νέες έμπειρες αποφάσεις! Κι ένα ευλογημένο Νέο Έτος 2012. Του Κυρίου η ευλογία πάντα μαζί σ αυτό το νέο έτος και πάντοτε. Με τη αγάπη Χριστού, +π. Σαράντης
Το Μήνυμα του Προέδρου Σεβαστοί Πάροικοι της Αγίας Μαρκέλλας Είναι μετά μεγάλης χαράς που σας χαιρετώ σήμερα και έρχομαι να σας μεταφέρω τις εγκαρδίως ευχές του Εκκλησιαστικού Συμβουλίου για ένα χαρούμενο και επιτυχές νέο έτος 2012. Χρόνια Πολλά! Μαζί, έχουμε τελειώσει τον πρώτο χρόνο της υπηρεσίας μου ως Πρόεδρος του Εκκλησιαστικού Συμβουλίου της κοινότητος μας και ήταν ένας χρόνος υπέροχος. Γεμάτος απο ευχάριστες εμπειρίες που είμαι ευγνώμων. Ευχαριστώ πρώτα τα Μέλη του Συμβουλίου για τη συμμετοχή και συνεργασία, την επιτροπή της Θεμελιώσεως Κτιρίου που δούλεψαν ακράδαντα, εσάς που μοιραστήκατε την οικονομική ευθύνη, την υπομονή, και την εμπιστοσύνη σας για το καλό της εκκλησίας και τον πατέρα Σαράντη για τη αγάπη και την πρωτοπορία του. Θα ήθελα πάρα πολύ να ευχαριστήσω όλους σας με όνομα αλλά θα το αφήσουμε για μια άλλη φορά. Είμαι πραγματικά ευγνώμων διότι όλοι σας είσαστε άξιοι της κοινότητας μας, και αύριο τα παιδιά μας θα είναι υπερήφανα για όλους μας. Ήταν περίπου κοντά στις τελευταίες ήμερε που αρχίσαμε να δουλεύουμε για το πάνω μέρος της εκκλησιάς μας και τώρα ολόκληρο το κτίριο είναι σκεπασμένο και ασφαλισμένο απο κακοκαιρίες. Μάλιστα η κοινοτική αίθουσα είναι περίπου έτοιμη για χρησιμοποίηση. Βρισκόμαστε σ αυτό το σημείο διότι είμαστε ένα σώμα, μια ενωμένη κοινότητα, και σας ευχαριστώ που κάνατε το χρόνο της προεδρίας μου θαυμάσιο, επιτυχές και αξιοσημείωτο. Δεδομένου ότι αρχίζουμε το νέο έτος 2012, ας συνεχίσουμε αυτό που αρχίσαμε μαζί έχουμε ακόμα πολύ δαυλιά. Ας πάρουμε τις επιτυχίες του περασμένου χρόνου και προσθέσουμε πάνω σ αυτές. Ξέρουμε ότι μπορούμε να το κάνουμε. Το έχουμε αποδείξει. Κατα τις αρχές της ανοίξεως θα γνωρίζουμε περισσότερο για τα θυρανοίξια της εκκλησίας μας, που ελπίζουμε ότι θα είναι μετά το Πάσχα εάν πάνε όλα ρολόι. Θα είναι ένα μεγάλο λάθος από τη μεριά μου εάν παραλείψω να σας ευχαριστήσω για τη γενναιοδωρία και την υποχρέωσή σας που καταδείξατε σε δύο πρόσθετα μέρη της προόδου της εκκλησίας, η λαχειοφόρος στη οποία σχεδόν όλοι σας αγοράσατε το 5 λαχεία που σας στείλαμε και γιά την συνδρομή σας η οποία αυξήθηκε κατα το 50% καλύτερα απο το 2010. Είναι η ελπίδα μας ότι οι ελάχιστοι που κάπως δεν εκπλήρωσαν την υποχρέωση συνδρομής να το κάνουν μαζί με του νέου έτους. Τελειώνοντας, θέλω να καλωσορίσω τα νέα μέλη του Συμβουλίου, κ. President s Message My dear Parishioners and Friends of our community of St. Markella church: It is with great joy that I greet you today and joyfully I wish to extend to you the Parish Council s best wishes for a healthy and prosperous New Year 2012. Happy New Year! Together, we have completed my first year of my Presidency and what a great year it was, wonderful, full of joyful experiences. I am most grateful to all the members of the Parish Council for their support, the Building Committee who worked tirelessly week after week on the daily basis, to you the Parishioners who are willing to share the responsibilities for our church and to Fr. Sarantis for his guidance and love. I would love to list all of you by name, but that will be for a later day. I am really grateful because all of you are worthy of this community and our faith and our children will be proud of us tomorrow. It was about this time last year that we started to be building the top part of our new church and a year later the whole building is secured and sealed from the weather conditions. Actually the social hall is almost ready to be functional. What a great feeling! But again we did it as one body, as one united community, thank you for making my year so wonderful, successful and memorable one. As we begin the New Year 2012, let us continue the work that we have started. There still lots of work to come. Let us take last year s achievements and add to them. We know we can do it. We have proved it. In early spring we will know more about the Grand Opening of our new church, which we hope that will be sometime after Easter, provide that all goes well. It will be a big mistake on my part if I omit to thank you for your generosity and commitment that you demonstrated on two special ministries, the New Year s Building Fund Raffle, which almost all of you either purchased /sold your 5 raffles and the membership, which was increased by 50% better then in 2010. This is commitment! It is our hope that the very few who somehow did not fulfill their membership obligation to do it this New Year. Finally, I would like to welcome our new Parish Council Members on board, Mr. Thomas Bussi, Mr. George Gasparis, Mr. Michael K. Gonias, and Mr. Ioannis Sardianos. Fr. Sarantis Epiphany Home Blessing Visit Having celebrated the Epiphany, our Lord s baptism, we begin the annual House Blessings as is the custom. I will visit your home or your business by invitation ONLY, therefore, if you wish to participate in the tradition you should call the office at 783-5760 to set up your schedule visit and that will be most appreciated. The visits will continue on daily basis from 12 noon until 7:30pm throughout January until the start of Triodion, which is Sunday February 5. From February 1 to the February 4, I will attempt to bless the rest of the homes, which are on the stewardship list from the outside town to town. When I will arrive to bless your home kindly mute the radio, television and cell phone and invite the family to join together. We gather around the family icons set on a table for prayer. I will bring Holy Water from the Epiphany Service (the Lessen Blessing-Jan 5 th ) with me, which I will add to your bowl half-filled with drinkable water. Please have the first names of the family written for the prayers. I will also take the list along to include your family in the prayers of preparation for the next Divine Liturgy, the Proskomidi. Then you may lead me around your home for the blessing. Because of the many number of homes that I will visit in our parish, I will be able to stay to visit and have refreshment with you during these visits up to half hour. Please feel free to invite me after the Epiphany season is concluded to stay longer. Please know that Parish emergencies may occur, which will necessitate a few changes. I look forward to visiting and praying with you during the coming weeks. May the blessings of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be with all our families throughout the year. The Sunday School will be hosting their annual Godparent s Sunday Brunch for Godparents and their Godchildren and families on Sunday, February 26th after the conclusion of Divine Liturgy. That Sunday is intended for Godchildren to attend the whole Divine Liturgy with their Godparents. A special prayer service will be held in church and everyone is encouraged to attend the brunch in the church hall. Parents kindly call to remind the Godparent s of your children to save the date. There is no class on this Sunday. Invitations can be made for children to invite their Godparents to church on that day. $6.00 Tickets for adults, $5 for children over 2, FREE for children under 2 so we may cover the cost for the event will be sold at the entrance of the social hall.
Ο Αγιασμός των Θεοφανείων στα Σπίτια Έχοντας εορτάσει τα Άγια Θεοφάνεια της Αγίας Τριάδος, θα αρχίσει ο αγιασμός των Θεοφανείων στα σπίτια καθώς είναι η παράδοσης. Παρακαλώ σημειώστε ότι μετα χαράς μεγάλης θα επισκεφτώ τις οικίες σας ή τις επιχειρήσεις σας κατόπιν μόνο της πρόσκλησης σας. Τηλεφωνώντας το εκκλησιαστικό γραφείο, 516.783.5760, μπορείτε να κλείσετε τη κατάλληλη ημέρα και ώρα για τον αγιασμό. Οι επισκέψεις των αγιασμών θα γίνονται καθημερινά απο τις 12 το μεσημέρι έως τις 7:30 το βράδυ, εκτός Κυριακής, κατά τη διάρκεια του Ιανουαρίου μέχρι τη αρχή του Τριωδίου, δηλαδή μέχρι τη Κυριακή, 5 Φεβρουαρίου. Απο τη 1 η Φεβρουαρίου έως τη 4 Φεβρουαρίου θα προσπαθήσω να ευλογήσω απ έξω τα υπόλοιπα σπίτια που δεν είχα τη ευκαιρία να επισκεφτώ καθώς βρίσκονται στη λίστα Συνδρομητών του 2011. Θα σας παρακαλέσω κατά τη επίσκεψη μου να χαμηλώσετε τον ήχο της τηλεοράσεως ή ραδίου και τηλεφώνου καθώς συγκεντρώνεται η οικογένεια γύρο του τραπεζιού που θα λάβει μέρος ο αγιασμός. Στο τραπέζι θα έχετε τοποθετήσει μια εικόνα, μια μικρή λεκάνη μισογεμάτη απο πόσιμο νερό. Επίσης, παρακαλείστε να έχετε γραφτώς όλα τα ονόματα των μελών της οικογενείας σας και ότι άλλα ονόματα έχετε στη καρδιά σας να μνημονευτούν. Το χαρτί με τα ονόματα θα το πάρω μαζί μου για να μνημονεύσω στη Προσκομιδή της ερχομένης Κυριακής. Κατόπιν θα ραντίσουμε όλοι μαζί όλο το σπίτι. Λόγου ότι είναι πολλά τα σπίτια που θα επισκεφτώ θα έχω τη χαρά να μείνω μαζί σας για μισή ώρα να κουβεντιάσουμε. Μετά τους αγιασμούς με μεγάλη χαρά θα είμαι στη διάθεση σας για περισσότερη ώρα. GREEK SCHOOL NEWS Dear Parents, Yiayias and Pappous. It is the end of year, but not the end of our school year. But we had a great year so far. In October the children and parents took a trip to a farm for apple and pumpkin picking. Halloween Party was a great success. We have also had fundraisers at Wendy s, Friendly s and Gyrolicious. Manny thanks to Mrs. Bussi and Mrs. Gasparis for all their time and effort and to all those who supported the fundraisers. Next fundraiser will be January 12 at Chuck and Cheese and January 25 at McDonalds. Our children were amazing as they participated in the Christmas pageant; they really brought Christmas to our hearts. A special Guest dressed in his red suit visited our Children. We are deeply indebted to our School Teachers who teach our children with great passion. God blessed them. Our luncheon, which canceled in November, will be held on January 29 th at the church hall. Come and support our Greek School. Great food and prizes. Save the date. A reminder to all the parents that Sunday school, the practical part of our school is open for our children. Presvytera Norma, Mrs. Zanelotti, Miss Antonia and Miss Effie are waiting to guide our children to the spiritual path. It is our responsibility to bring them. On behalf of the Ladies of Philoptochos I extend to all of you our best wishes for a happy and healthy prosperous New Year 2012. Our Thanksgiving raffle was a great success. Thanks to all the ladies that helped and donated their TIME and TALENTS and TREASURE and those who participated in support. On December 3 rd 35 people made a pilgrimage to St. Nektarios Monastery. We prayed, we had fun and we will do it again soon. On December 18 th, we had our Chinese Auction, thanks for all the donations and your support. Our chapter really gets involve; we are waiting your involvement also. Our Philoptochos also has donated to people in need. More good things are planned. We are asking that if anyone knows of a family in need to approach any member of the Philoptochos; we promised that we will be very discreet. On January 14 th, 2012, we will have our annual Holiday party, please look for detail on Sunday s Bulletin. On January 15 th we will have our annual Vasilopita celebration, please don t miss it, your good luck could be waiting for you. Again we wish to invite all the ladies to be not only supporters, but PARTICIPANTS as Christ our Lord wishes us to be. We are the Marthas and the Maries of our times.
