1 ΚΥΡΙΑΚΗ 10 ΣΕΠΤΕΜΒΡΙΟΥ 2017 ΚΥΡΙΑΚΗ ΠΡΟ ΤΗΣ ΥΨΩΣΕΩΣ «..οὐ γὰρ ἀπέστειλεν ὁ Θεὸς τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸν κόσµον ἵνα κρίνῃ τὸν κόσµον, ἀλλʹ ἵνα σωθῇ ὁ κόσµος διʹ αὐτοῦ».

2 ΚΥΡΙΑΚΗ ΠΡΟ ΤΗΣ ΥΨΩΣΕΩΣ Η Κυριακή πριν από την εορτή της Παγκοσµίου Υψώσεως του Τιµίου Σταυρού µας προετοιµάζει πνευµατικά για να συναισθανθούµε το µέγα µυστήριο της σταυρικής θυσίας του Κυρίου µας. Το ευαγγελικό ανάγνωσµα µας µεταφέρει σε µία ιερή συζήτηση µέσα στη νύχτα, όπου ο Κύριος απεκάλυψε στον κρυφό µαθητή του Νικόδηµο το µέγα µυστήριο της σωτηρίας του ανθρωπίνου γένους. Κανείς από τους ανθρώπους, είπε, δεν έχει ανεβεί στον ουρανό, παρά µόνο εγώ που κατέβηκα από τον ουρανό και έγινα άνθρωπος. Κι ενώ τώρα είµαι στη γη, εξακολουθώ να είµαι και στον ουρανό. Και όπως κάποτε ο Μωυσής κρέµασε ψηλά το χάλκινο φίδι για να σώζονται µ αυτό οι Ισραηλίτες από τα θανατηφόρα δαγκώµατα των φιδιών της ερήµου, έτσι σύµφωνα µε το µυστηριώδες σχέδιο του Θεού πρέπει να υψωθώ εγώ ψηλά πάνω στο σταυρό. Ποια όµως είναι η βαθύτερη σχέση ανάµεσα στο γεγονός αυτό της Παλαιάς Διαθήκης µε τη σταύρωση του Κυρίου µας; Εκεί στην έρηµο συνέβαινε κάτι το συνταρακτικό. Είχαν παρουσιαστεί φίδια φαρµακερά και τρύπωναν στις σκηνές των Ισραηλιτών. Φίδια αµέτρητα δάγκωναν όσους έβρισκαν µπροστά τους. Κι αυτοί µε πόνους δυνατούς και κραυγές απελπιστικές σε λίγη ώρα έπεφταν νεκροί! Οι Ισραηλίτες τροµοκρατηµένοι άρχισαν να καταλαβαίνουν ότι τιµωρούνται για τις πολλές τους αµαρτίες. Σκέφτηκαν ότι µόνον ο Θεός µπορούσε να τους σώσει. Έτρεξαν λοιπόν στον Μωυσή κι εκείνος µε όλη του την ψυχή παρακαλούσε τον Θεό να τους σώσει. Και ο Θεός, σαν αγαθός πατέρας, επειδή είδε ότι µετανόησε ο λαός, άκουσε την προσευχή του Μωυσή και του λέει: «Φτιάξε ένα φίδι χάλκινο και κρέµασέ το σε ένα ξύλο. Και πες στους Ισραηλίτες: «Καθένας που θα τον δαγκώσει φίδι, να κοιτάζει το χάλκινο αυτό φίδι και θα σώζεται από το θάνατο». Και το θανατικό σταµάτησε, οι Ισραηλίτες σώθηκαν. Γιατί όµως ο Κύριος συσχετίζει το γεγονός αυτό µε τη δική του σταύρωση; Το χάλκινο φίδι το ύψωσε ο Μωυσής καρφωµένο σε ξύλο. Στο τίµιο ξύλο του σταυρού υψώθηκε κρεµασµένος κι ο Χριστός µας. Τα φαρµακερά φίδια σκορπούσαν το θάνατο. Ο σατανάς, ο όφις ο αρχαίος, µε τα φαρµακερά τσιµπήµατά του νεκρώνει την ψυχή του ανθρώπου. Στην έρηµο ο Μωυσής κρέµασε πάνω στο ξύλο ένα χάλκινο φίδι, που ήταν το οµοίωµα των φαρµακερών φιδιών. Στο σταυρό κρεµάστηκε ο ίδιος ο Κύριος, ο Οποίος θεωρήθηκε το οµοίωµα της αµαρτίας, καθώς σήκωσε επάνω του όλες τις αµαρτίες του κόσµου. Στην έρηµο οι Ιουδαίοι ατενίζοντας το χάλκινο φίδι διέφυγαν τον πρόσκαιρο θάνατο, εµείς οι πιστοί ατενίζοντας τον Σταυρό του Χριστού λυτρωνόµαστε από τη σκλαβιά της αµαρτίας, από τον αιώνιο θάνατο, µπορούµε να εισέλθουµε όχι στη γη της επαγγελίας, αλλά στη Βασιλεία του Θεού.

3 Ο Κύριος στη συνέχεια εξηγεί στον Νικόδηµο το νόηµα της δικής του υψώσεως πάνω στο ξύλο του Σταυρού: Ο υιός του ανθρώπου, λέει, θα υψωθεί πάνω στο Σταυρό, για να µη χαθεί κανένας από όσους θα πιστεύουν σ Αυτόν στον αιώνιο θάνατο, αλλά να έχει ζωή αιώνια. Διότι τόσο πολύ αγάπησε ο Θεός τον κόσµο, ώστε παρέδωσε σε θάνατο τον µονάκριβο Υιό του, για να µη χαθεί στον αιώνιο θάνατο κανένας πιστός, άλλα να έχει ζωή αιώνια. Διότι δεν απέστειλε ο Θεός τον Υιό του στο αµαρτωλό γένος των ανθρώπων για να κατακρίνει και να καταδικάσει το γένος αυτό, αλλά για να σωθεί ολόκληρος ο κόσµος. Με τα υπέροχα αυτά λόγια του ο Κύριος απεκάλυψε στον Νικόδηµο την άπειρη αγάπη του Θεού προς τον άνθρωπο. Πόσο πολύ µας αγάπησε ο Θεός; Το πόσο πολύ µας αγάπησε φαίνεται όχι µόνον από το ότι ήθελε να µας σώσει, αλλά και από τον τρόπο µε τον οποίο µας έσωσε και από τη σωτηρία την οποία µας χάρισε. Διότι δεν έστειλε κάποιον άνθρωπο ή άγγελο να µας σώσει, αλλά τον µονογενή του Υιό, τον συνάναρχο και σύνθρονο, τον άπειρο και πανυπερτέλειο Υιό του. Κι Αυτόν Τον παρέδωσε σε θάνατο. Και για ποιους Τον παρέδωσε σε θάνατο; Ποιους αγάπησε; Μήπως πλάσµατα που Τον λάτρευαν και Τον αγαπούσαν; Εµάς τους αποστάτες ανθρώπους, που είχαµε γίνει εχθροί του και καταντήσαµε «κτηνώδεις και δαιµονιώδεις». Ο άπειρος Θεός αγάπησε έναν τέτοιον ανάξιο κόσµο. Αγάπησε τον διεφθαρµένο άνθρωπο, ενώ αυτός δεν είχε να παρουσιάσει τίποτε άξιο της αγάπης του. Και έγινε άνθρωπος ο ίδιος ο Υιός του Θεού για να µας σώσει από την καταδυνάστευση του διαβόλου. Και υψώθηκε επάνω στο Σταυρό, για να µη χαθούµε στο αιώνιο σκοτάδι, αλλά να ζούµε µαζί του αιωνίως τη δική του πανευτυχή ζωή. Και µας δέχθηκε ως παιδιά του, ως µέλη της Εκκλησίας του, και µας τροφοδοτεί µε τα άγια Μυστήρια, µας προσφέρει άφεση αµαρτιών, αγιασµό και σωτηρία ψυχής. Εµείς κατανοούµε άραγε το ύψος αυτό της αγάπης του; Αντιλαµβανόµαστε την άπειρη αυτή και ύψιστη ευεργεσία του; Γι αυτό ας παρακαλούµε Αυτόν που τόσο πολύ µας αγάπησε, να µας φωτίζει να κατανοούµε όσο µπορούµε το ύψος της αγάπης του. Και να ζούµε πλέον µόνο για τον Θεό και µε τον Θεό. Αμήν.

9 The base from which we serve as the Voice of Christ in a Changing world is the parish. The parish also provides a place for worship, community and education in the faith. To be stewards of the Gospel we need to be stewards of our parish. This requires the vision and inspiration to see the parish, not as it is, but as it could be. We are all called to offer ourselves and our treasure to make our local church all that is and can be. Ask yourself, How Can I Help My Parish Grow? There are many ways you can give to your church. You may sponsor an event or a celebration. It isn t coming forward to venerate the cross, nor is it to receive the antidoron or blessed bread. Then what is it? The last thing we do is leave the Church. Father Anthony Coniaris writes that in the Book of Genesis (12:2) God blesses Abraham so that he, in turn, will be a blessing to the world. And as Christians, We are blessed in order to bless others. We are forgiven in order to forgive. We are loved in order to love. We are comforted in order to comfort others. We are saved to help others find salvation. Christ came to serve in order to teach us to serve others. We are His people. He is in us and we are in Him. The Liturgy continues after we leave Church. We return to the world as other Christs and the Liturgy we experienced in Church continues when we make His love real through our acts of mercy in the world. The Lord Jesus is very clear about our mission as believers: we are to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, visit those who are sick and welcome strangers, always recognizing that in our care for others we are caring for Him (Matthew 25:31-46). If, in fact, we are not doing these things we are explicitly told in the Scriptures that our faith is dead (James 2:17). Each of us is called to continue the Liturgy in the everyday circumstances of our personal lives, to become a living proclamation of the God News for the sake of the world. We are to be missionaries of His Kingdom in the world. The final act of receiving is giving.
