2 INTRODUTION This service manual describes the latest service information for the I-V000 VHF FM TRANSEIVER at the time of publication. VERSION Asia.S.America U.S.A. 7 SETION IRUIT DESRIPTION - REEIVER IRUITS -- ANTENNA SWITHING IRUIT (MAIN UNIT) Received signals passed through the low-pass filter (L, L, L, L, 0,, 0, 0, 0,, ). The filtered signals are applied to the / λ type antenna switching circuit (D, D). The antenna swtiching circuit functions as a low-pass filter while transmitting. However, its impedance becomes very high while D and D are turn ON. Thus transmit signals are blocked from entering the receiver circuits. The antenna switching circuit employs a / λ type diode swtiching system. The passed signals are then applied to the RF amplifier circuit. The signals from the RF circuit are mixed at the st mixer (Q) with a st LO signal coming from the VO circuit to produce a.0 MHz st IF signal. The st IF signal is applied to two crystal filters (FI and FI) to suppress out-of-band signals. The filtered st IF signal is applied to the IF amplifier (Q), then applied to the nd mixer circuit (I, pin ). -- ND IF AND DEMODULATOR IRUITS (MAIN UNIT) The nd mixer circuit converts the st IF signal to a nd IF signal. A double conversion superheterodyne system (which converts receive signal twice) improves the image rejection ratio and obtain stable receiver gain. -- RF IRUIT (MAIN UNIT) The RF circuit amplifies signals within the range of frequency coverage and filters out-of-band signals. The signals from the antenna switching circuit are applied to the limitter (D), and are then passed through the bandpass filter (D, L,, ). The filtered signals are amplified at the RF amplifier (Q), then applied to the st mixer circuit after out-of-band signals are suppressed at the bandpass filter (D D). D D, D employ varactor diodes that track the bandpass filters and are controlled by the T T signals from the D/A convertor (I, pins 0,, ). These diodes tune the center frequency of an RF passband for wide bandwidth receiving and good image response rejection. -- ST MIXER AND ST IF IRUITS (MAIN UNIT) The st mixer circuit converts the received signal to a fixed frequency of the st IF signal with a PLL output frequency. y changing the PLL frequency, only the desired frequency will pass through two crystal filters at the next stage of the st mixer. ND IF AND DEMODULATOR IRUITS R R R The st IF signal from the IF amplifier is applied to the nd mixer section of the FM IF I (I, pin ), and is mixed with the nd LO signal to be converted to a 0 khz nd IF signal. The FM IF I contains the nd mixer, limiter amplifier, quadrature detector and active filter circuits. A. MHz nd LO signal is produced at the PLL circuit. The nd IF signal from the nd mixer (I, pin ) passes through a ceramic filter (FI; When wide is selected, F; When Narrow is selected. (Narrow is [USA] version only.)) to remove unwanted heterodyned frequencies. It is then amplified at the limiter amplifier (I, pin ) and applied to the quadrature detector (I, pins 0, ) to demodulate the nd IF signal into AF signals. -- AF IRUIT (MAIN AND LOGI UNITS) The AF amplifier circuit amplifies the demodulated AF signals to drive a speaker. AF signals from the FM IF I (I, pin ) are applied to the analog swtich (LOGI UNIT; I, pin ) via the high pass filter (Ic, pins, ). The output signals from pin are applied to the volume adjustment pot (LOGI UNIT; R). 8 The AF signals are applied to the AF power amplifier circuit (I, pin ) to obtain the specified audio level. The amplified AF signals, output from pin, are applied to the internal speaker (HASSIS UNIT; SP) via the speaker jack (J) when no plug is connected to the external speaker jack (J). -- SQUELH IRUIT (MAIN AND LOGI UNITS) A squelch circuit cuts out AF signals when no RF signals are received. y detecting noise components in the AF signals, the squelch switches the analog swtich. A portion of the AF signals from the FM IF I (I, pin ) are applied to the D/A converter (I, pin ) as the signal. The signals from the D/A converter (I, pin ) are applied to the FM IF I active filter section (I, pin ) where noise components are amplified and detected with an internal noise detector via the SQLIN line. The trigger circuit converts the detected signals to a HIGH or LOW signal and applies this (from pin ) to the PU (LOGI UNIT; I, pin ) as the NOIS signal.the PU controls the analog swtich I (LOGI UNIT; I) via the expander I (LOGI UNIT; I). When the PU receives a HIGH level NOIS signal, the PU controls the RMUT line to cut the AF signals at the analog swtich I (LOGI UNIT; I). At the same time, the AFON line controls the AF mute circuit (Q) to cut out the VOLOUT signal for the AF power amplifier (I). - TRANSMITTER IRUITS -- MIROPHONE AMPLIFIER IRUIT (LOGI AND MAIN UNITS) The microphone amplifier circuit amplifies audio signals with + d/octave pre-emphasis from the microphone to a level needed for the modulation circuit. The AF signals from the microphone pass through the MI switch (I, D) and high-pass filter (Ia, pin ), and are then applied to the microphone amplifier circuit (Id, pin ) via the R and for + d/octave pre-emphasis. The amplified AF signals are applied to the analog swtich (I, pin ), and are then applied to the D/A converter (MAIN UNIT; I, pin ) via the signal. The AF signals are applied to the modulator circuit via the MOD signal. -- MODULATION IRUIT (MAIN UNIT) The modulation circuit modulates the VO oscillating signal (RF signal) using the microphone audio signals. The audio signals (SHIFT) change the reactance of D to modulate an oscillated signal at the VO (Q, D). The oscillated signal is amplified at the LO (Q) and buffer (Q) amplifiers, then applied to the TX/RX switch circuit (D, D). -- DRIVE/POWER AMPLIFIER IRUITS (MAIN UNIT) The signal from the VO circuit passes through the TX/RX swtiching circuit (D) and is amplified at the pre-drive (Q), drive (Q, Q0) and power (Q) amplifiers to obtain W of RF power (at. V D/typical). The amplified signal passes through the low-pass filter (L, L,,,,,, ), and then applied to the antenna swtiching circuit (D). The signal is applied to the antenna connector (HASSIS UNIT; J) after being passed through the low-pass filter (L, L, L, L, 0,, 0, 0, 0,, ). The bias current of the drive (Q, Q0) and power (Q) amplifiers is controlled by the AP circuit to stabilize the output power. -- AP IRUIT (MAIN UNIT) The AP (Automatic Power ontrol) circuit (Ia, Q) protects drive and power amplifiers from excessive currents and selects HIGH or LOW output power. The output voltage from the power detector circuit (D, D) is applied to the differential amplifier (Ia, pin ), and the T signal from the D/A converter (I, pin ) is applied to the other input for reference. When the driving current increases, the input voltage of the differential amplifier (Ia, pin ) will be increased. In such cases, the differential amplifier output voltage (pin ) is decreased to reduce the drive current. 9 - PLL IRUITS -- PLL IRUIT (MAIN AND LOGI UNITS) A PLL circuit provides stable oscillation of the transmit frequency and receive st LO frequency. The PLL output compares the phase of the divided VO frequency to the reference frequency. The PLL output frequency is controlled by the divided ratio (N-data) of a programmable divider. An oscillated signal from the TX and RX-VO circuits passes through the LO and buffer amplifiers (Q, Q) is applied to the PLL I (I, pin ) and is prescaled in the PLL I based on the divided ratio (N-data). The reference signal is generated at the reference oscillator (X) and is also applied to the PLL I. The PLL I detects the out-of-step phase using the reference frequency and outputs it from pin. The output signal is passed through the loop filter(q) and is then applied to the TX and RX-VO circuits as lock voltage. The lock voltage is also used for the receiver tunable bandpass filters to match the filter s center frequency to the desired receive frequency. The lock voltage is passed through the loop filter (Q), and then applied to the D amplifier (Q0). The amplified signal is applied to the PU (LOGI unit; I, pin ) via the signal. The signal is analyzed at the PU, and then applied to bandpass filters (D D, D) as T, T, T signals via the D/A converter. -- VO IRUIT (MAIN UNIT) The VO circuit contains a separate TX-VO (Q, D, D) and RX-VO (Q, D). The oscillated signal is amplified at the LO (Q) and buffer (Q) amplifiers, and is then Tx/Rx switching circuit (D, D). Then Tx and Rx signals are applied to the pre-driver (Q) and st mixer circuit (Q) respectively. - POWER SUPPLY IRUITS VOLTAGE LINE LINE HV SWHV V +V +V T RV DESRIPTION The voltage from the power supply. The same voltage as HV line which is controlled by the HVSW circuit (Q, Q0, Q). When the [POWER] switch is pushed, the PU outputs the control signal via the expander I (I). The signal is applied to the HVSW circuit to turn the circuit ON. The output voltage is applied to the drive amplifier (Q), +V regulator circuit (I), etc. ommon V for the PU converted from the HV line by the V regulator circuit (I). The circuit outputs the voltage regardless of the power ON/OFF condition. The output voltage is applied to the EEPROM (LOGI UNIT; I), PU (LOGI UNIT; I), etc. ommon V converted from the. V line by the +V regulator circuit (I). The output voltage is applied to the LO (Q) and buffer (Q) amplifiers, etc. ommon V converted from the + V line by the +V regulator circuit (Q, Q). Transmit V controlled by the TV regulator circuit (Q, Q) using the TX signal from the I/O expander I (I). Receive V controlled by the RV regulator circuit (Q) using RX signal from the I/O expander I (I). The output voltage is applied to the FM I I (I), IF (Q) and RF (Q) amplifiers, etc. A portion of the signal from LO amplifier (Q) is amplified at the buffer amplifier (Q) and is then fed back to the PLL I (I, pin ) as the comparison signal.
