3 Father Nick s Message I pray that all of our Holy Trinity families are doing well! We are now into the month of November and everyone by now is well into the swing of Fall! It s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just around the corner. During this month, I would like to remind everyone to please keep in mind the beginning of the Christmas (Nativity) fast, November 15 th, which lasts through Christmas Day. During this period, the Church gives us time to reflect & concentrate on the spiritual aspect of our Lord and Savior s birth. We should all prepare by fasting, praying and trying to gain a deeper understanding of HIS birth and how it was the truest gift to mankind. What should we give back to HIM as our gift? This is a question we should all ask ourselves. Not everyone will have the same answer; but all of us should seek to give some kind of gift to our Lord. The greatest gift that we can give back to our Lord is the gift of following HIS Will to love one another as earnestly as we can. All of us can follow HIM in the correct way; it just takes faith, love, patience, time and commitment. We can also follow HIS WILL by bringing in non-perishable foods and canned goods to our Church so that we can help the less fortunate souls, those going hungry and those who are homeless. By doing this, you as followers of Christ, will be giving our Lord the greatest gift; that is by hearing and responding to His Words in love, did you feed Me when I was hungry? Now, the Church does realize that Thanksgiving falls during the Christmas fast. How should we celebrate? Yes, I used the word celebrate!! It is a celebration of thanks for our Church, our Nation, our men and women in the Armed Forces (especially on November 11 th /Veterans Day), our family and friends, peace, health, happiness and an abundance of the fruits of the earth. So yes, the Church wants us to celebrate! Therefore, since Thanksgiving Day is a celebration, the Church knows that the fast will be broken, but asks all of us to return to the fasting mode that we have been following, right after our feasting and thanksgiving. May our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ bless you and your families this Nativity season. Remember to attend as many services in the Church as you can. Let us all try to commit ourselves to one another, our parish of Holy Trinity and give thanks unto the Lord. May God Bless you and keep you. Είμαστε τώρα στον Νοέμβριο και ο καθένας έως τώρα είναι για τα καλά στον στρόβιλο του Φθινοπώρου! Είναι δύσκολο να πιστέψει κανείς ότι η Ημέρα των Ευχαριστιών είναι προ των πυλών. Κατά τη διάρκεια αυτού του μήνα, θα ήθελα να υπενθυμίσω σε όλους να λάβη υπόψη του την αρχή της νηστείας των Χριστουγέννων, 15 Νοεμβρίου, η οποία θα διαρκέσει έως την ημέρα των Χριστουγέννων. Κατά τη διάρκεια αυτής της περιόδου, η Εκκλησία μας δίνει χρόνο για να σκεφτούμε και επικεντρωθούμε στην πνευματική πτυχή του Κυρίου μας και τη γέννηση του Σωτήρα. Θα πρέπει όλοι να προετοιμαστούμε νηστεύοντας, προσευχώντας και προσπαθόντας να αποκτήσουμε μια βαθύτερη κατανόηση της γέννησης ΤΟΥ και ότι ήταν το πιο αληθινό δώρο της ανθρωπότητας. Τι δώρο πρέπει να του δώσουμε σε αντάλλαγμα; Αυτό είναι ένα ερώτημα που πρέπει να θέσουμε όλοι τους εαυτούς μας. Όχι ο καθένας θα έχη την ίδια απάντηση αλλά όλοι μας θα πρέπει να επιδιώξομε να δώσουμε κάποιο δώρο στον Κύριό μας. Το μεγαλύτερο δώρο που μπορούμε να δώσουμε πίσω στον Κύριο μας είναι το δώρο «ακολουθίας της επιθυμίας Του... να αγαπούμε αλλήλους", όσο σοβαρώτερα μπορούμε. Όλοι μας μπορούμε να τον ακολουθούμε με το σωστό τρόπο απλά χρειάζεται πίστη, αγάπη, υπομονή, χρόνο και αφοσίωση. Μπορούμε επίσης να ακολουθήσουν το θέλημα Του, φέρνοντας σε διατηρήσιμα τρόφιμα και στα κονσερβοποιημένα προϊόντα στην Εκκλησία μας, έτσι ώστε να μπορούμε να βοηθήσουμε τις λιγότερο τυχερές ψυχές, τους πεινασμένους και άστεγους. Με τον τρόπο αυτό, εσείς οι Χριστιανοί, θα δίνουν στον Κύριο μας το μεγαλύτερο δώρο δηλαδή ακούγοντας και ανταπόκρινόμενοι στον Λόγο Του με αγάπη, " μου έδωσες να φάω όταν ήμουν πεινασμένος"? Όμως, η Εκκλησία αντιλαμβάνεται ότι η Ημέρα των Ευχαριστιών πέφτει στην νηστεία των Χριστουγέννων. Πώς θα πρέπει να γιορτάζουμε; Ναί, χρησιμοποίησα τη λέξη γιορτάσουμε!! Είναι μια γιορτή ευχαριστίας για την Εκκλησία μας, το έθνος μας, τους άνδρες και τις γυναίκες μας στις Ένοπλες Δυνάμεις (ειδικά την 11 ην Νοεμβρίου, ημέρα των Παλαιών Πολεμιστών), την οικογένεια και τους φίλους μας, την ειρήνη, την υγεία, την ευτυχία και την αφθονία των καρπών της γης. Ναι λοιπόν, η Εκκλησία θέλει να γιορτάσουμε! Ως εκ τούτου, δεδομένου ότι η Ημέρα των Ευχαριστιών είναι μια γιορτή, η Εκκλησία γνωρίζει ότι δεν θα νηστέψουμε, αλλά ζητεί από όλους μας για να νηστέψουμε όπως πριν, αμέσως μετά το "φαγοπότι" μας και "την ευχαριστία του Θεού»." Είθε ο Κύριός μας, Θεός και Σωτήρας Ιησούς Χριστός να σας ευλογή και τις οικογένειές σας την περίοδο της Γεννήσεως. Θυμηθείτε να παρακολουθήσετε όσο περισσότερες ακολουθίες στην Εκκλησία. Ας προσπαθήσουμε όλοι να «δεσμευτούμε ο ένα στον άλλο, την ενορία μας της Αγίας Τριάδος και να ευχαριστήσουμε τον Κύριο". Είθε ο Θεός να σας ευλογή και διαφυλάττη. 4 The Parish Council Presidents Page Dear Parishioners, We are well into the new year with signs of autumn everywhere! In September we hosted our 6 th annual Golf Tournament. It was not as well attended as we had hoped, but we thank our steadfast supporters for continuing to be there for our Parish. We appreciate our AHEPAns and their efforts to support our Church with their 2 nd annual Comedy Night featuring comic Eleni Karis. We thank those who came out to support them. The Metropolis Ambassador Awards banquet was well attended by Holy Trinity. We had over 50 participants. We are proud of our honorees, congratulate them and thank them for their continued service to our community. Our Terpsichorean Dance Troupe is looking for ways to raise funds for their ministry. Their first fund raiser was selling Gyros during coffee hour. We thank you for supporting our youth and we ask that you continue to help this ministry. Our Sunday School has 121 youth registered. If you have not registered yet, please do so by seeing Maroula Haralambidis or Amalea Rassias, our Co-Directors, or call the church office for a registration form. Our Greek School is off to a good start and has had a slight change by meeting on Friday nights. We will report on the OXI Day program in next month s bulletin, as this letter is written before it takes place! Our GOYAns are participating in two basketball tournaments, one at St. Sophia and one at Annunciation, and have other activities planned. HOPE/JOY and Jr. GOYA have been busy with participation in a hayride and will be busy baking pies for us this month! By now you should have received the material for the Fall General Assembly that will be held on Sunday, November 10 th after worship. As always a light lunch will be served. We encourage you to attend this meeting as this is where we will discuss important issues of the church and make decisions about next year s budget. We will also be accepting applications for (5) five Parish Council seats. If you would like to serve on the Parish Council or nominate someone to serve, please fill out the Petition for Candidacy you received with the General Assembly paperwork and turn it in before the end of the General Assembly. We cannot accept any applications after that date. The Parish Council elections will be held on December 8 th in the Community Center. Official documents for the election will go out to the parish shortly after the General Assembly. As you can see from the many flyers in this bulletin the holidays are upon us! Please support and attend as many of these functions as possible, remembering that we are all one spiritual family. Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving! Sincerely, Georgia Halakos Αγαπητοί Ενορίτες, Είμαστε ήδη στο νέο έτος με τα σημάδια του φθινοπώρου παντού! Τον Σεπτέμβριο φιλοξενήσαμε 6 ο Ετήσιο τουρνουά γκολφ μας. Δεν επήραν μέρος όλοι όσοι ελπίζαμε, αλλά ευχαριστούμε τους σταθερούς χορηγούς μας που συνεχίζουν να υποστηρίζουν την Ενορία μας. Εκτιμούμε τπυς ΑΧΕΠΑ μας και τις προσπάθειές τους για την υποστήριξη της εκκλησίας μας με την 2 α Ετήσια Βραδυά Κωμωδία με την κωμικό Ελένη Καρή. Ευχαριστούμε όσους τους υποστηρίξαν. Την δεξίωση των Βραβείων Πρέσβεων της Μητροπόλεως την παρακολούθησαν πολλά μέλη της Αγίας Τριάδας. Περισσότεροι από 50 συμμετείχαν. Είμαστε περήφανοι για τους τιμώμενούς μας, τους συγχαίρω, τους ευχαριστώ για τη συνεεχή προσφορά των υπηρεσιών τους για την κοινότητά μας. Η Χορευτικός ομάδας μας Τερψιχορίτες αναζητούν τρόπους για αύξηση των οικονομικών τους. Ο πρώτος έρανος είναι η πώληση γύρου κατά τη διάρκεια της ώρας του καφέ. Σας ευχαριστούμε για την υποστήριξη των νέων μας, και σας ζητούμε να συνεχίσετε. Το Κατηχητικό μας έχει 121 νέους εγγεγραμένους. Αν δεν έχετε εγγραφεί ακόμα, παρακαλώ εγγραφήτε βλέποντας την Μαρούλα Χαραλαμπίδη ή Αμαλία Ρασσιάς, τους συν-διευθυντές μας, ή καλέστε το γραφείο της εκκλησίας για ένα έντυπο εγγραφής. Το Ελληνικό Σχολείο μας άρχισε καλά. Οι τάξεις λαμβάνουν χώρα κάθε Παρασκευή. Θα σας ενημερώσουμε για το πρόγραμμα της 28 ης Οκτωβρίου στο επόμενο δελτίο μας. Οι GOYA μας συμμετέχουν σε δύο τούρναμεντ μπάσκετ, ένα στην Αγία Σοφία και ένα στην Αγ. Δημητρίο και έχουν και άλλες δραστηριότητες προγραμματισμένες. Η ΧΑΡΑ/ΕΛΠΙΔΑ και GOYA Ελάσσων είναι απασχολημένοι με τη οργάνωση χέιραϊντ και με το ψήσιμο πίτες για μας αυτόν το μήνα! Μέχρι τώρα θα πρέπει να έχετε λάβει το υλικό για την Γενική Συνέλευση του Φθινόπωροτην Κυριακή, 10 η Νοεμβρίου μετά την λειτουργία. Όπως πάντα, θα σερβιριστή ένα ελαφρύ μεσημεριανό γεύμα. Σας ενθαρρύνουμε να παρακολουθήσετε τη συνέλευση, καθώς θα συζητηθούν σημαντικά θέματα της εκκλησίας και θα ληφθούν αποφάσεις σχετικά με τον προϋπολογισμό του επόμενου έτους, και θα διατίθενται αιτήσεις για πέντε (5) θέσεις του Συμβουλίου της Ενορίας. Αν θα θέλατε να υπηρετήσετε στο Ενοριακό Συμβούλιο ή να ονομάσετε κάποιον, παρακαλούμε συμπληρώστε την Αίτηση υποψηφιότητας που θα λάβατε στην Γενική Συνέλευση υποβάλλετε την πριν από το τέλος της Γενικής Συνελέυσεως. Καμμία αίτηση δεν θα γίνη δεκτήγ μετά αυτή την ημερομηνία. Οι εκλογές για το Συμβουλίο της Ενορίας θα πραγματοποιηθεί την 8ην Δεκεμβρίου στην Κοινοτική Αίθουσα. Επίσημα έγγραφα των εκλογών θα αποσταλλούν στην Ενορία αμέσως μετά τη Γενική Συνέλευση. Όπως μπορείτε να δείτε από τα πολλά ένθετα σε αυτό το δελτίο οι εορτές είναι προ των πυλών! 5 GREEK LADIES PHILOPTOCHOS SOCIETY St. Agape Chapter Philoptochos News November 2013 October 8: Our Parish welcomed two women from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School who are working in conjunction with the Convent of the Annunciation in Ormylia, Greece. The Convent operates a medical facility for indigent and trafficked children. We were asked to support this worthy charity. Philoptochos and our Parish raised $2,500 for this cause. October 20: The Metropolis Ambassador Awards: Congratulations to Vickie Karakasidis and all the honorees of Holy Trinity Fr. Jerry Rassias was honored posthumously. May his memory be eternal. Our St. Agape Chapter congratulates His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos on the 10 th year of his enthronement εις πολλα ετη Δεσποτα. November 3: A tray will be passed in Church for the Patriarchate. Please be generous with your support. November 3: Philoptochos Board meeting in the Philoptochos Room at 12:30 PM. November 12: Philoptochos general meeting in the Philoptochos Room at 6:00 PM. 6 Sunday School Newsletter This year s Sunday School Program is well underway. We currently have 121 children registered. If you have yet to register your child(ren), you can still do so at any time. Please speak to Amalea Rassias or Maroula Haralambidis for registration information. There are a number of ways we teach our children about Orthodoxy. The teaching starts in Church. We have reserved the front left-side pews of the Church for the sole use of the Sunday School. Each pew will be labeled for specific grade levels, and we ask for all students to sit up front with their teachers. This will allow students to witness the Liturgy and the children s sermon, as well as allow for all the students to receive Communion and dismiss for their classes in an orderly fashion. Another way we teach is with special projects and programs. We have organized these programs throughout the year to teach children about people outside their everyday lives. A few of our projects and programs are listed below with given timelines. Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive to Christmas Drive (hats, gloves & scarves) to Mission Boxes (to benefit Orthodox missions)02-16 to During February 2014, we will be celebrating Godparent s/godchildren's Sunday. Our Sunday School children will invite their Godparent(s) or Special Person(s) to attend Church with them and receive Communion together. If a child s Godparent is unable to attend, the child may invite a Special Person to take the place of their Godparent on this special day. Godparents and Special Person(s) will also be invited to attend class with the children. We will keep you informed as we finalized additional plans for this special day. Last but not least, the Sunday School Students and Staff would like to thank the Daughters of Penelope for their generous donation of an A.C. Moore Giftcard to support our Sunday School Program! 9 HOLY TRINITY REGISTRY Baptisms: Eleni Iliadis, daughter of Antonios & Vaya Iliadis was baptized in our Church on October 13th. The sponsor was Savvas Athanaisiadis. We congratulate her, and her parents and welcome Eleni into the Orthodox Faith. Weddings: Aliicia Vinson & Larry Kanas, were united in marriage on October 5th. The sponsor was William Kanas. We congratulate the newly united in Christ and pray our Lord will bless them always. Funerals: Barbara Mesogianes, fell asleep in the Lord on October 5th and the funeral was held in our Church on October 8th. She is survived by her children, Elaine Vice & husband Billy, William & wife Renee, and Paul Mesogianes, her brother George Chronis, her sisters Marina Chambarry & husband Andrew, Katherine George, and Ourania Regas, and grandchildren Billy, Mark, Caitlin and Jordyn. May her memory be eternal! Kyriaki Kiki Eleutheriou, sister of parishioner Maria Grigorakakis, fell asleep in the Lord on September 26th. Her funeral was held in Linwood, PA. May her memory be eternal! Louis Liarakos, brother of parishioner Evelyn Liarakos, fell asleep on the Lord on August 30. He was interred at Silverbrook Cemetery with full military honors. May his memory be eternal! This is a separate Fund which is not used for the operating expenses of the Parish. You may donate now or remember it in your will. Gifts of any size are welcomed and appreciated. What is important is not the size of your gift, but your commitment to the Church. Virtually anything of value may be donated to the Endowment Fund: cash, appreciated securities (stocks and bonds), appreciated real estate, bequests (remembering the Church in your will), life insurance policies, life income plans. GOYA NEWS Hi All, We have made great progress so far this year in GOYA! Several of our GOYAns attended the St. Luke Welcome Back Dance (Broomall, Pa) on September 27th. On October 12th, Anna Fournaris, Pauline Raisis, Mr. & Mrs. Fournaris, Mr. & Mrs. Raisis, and myself served lunch at the Emmanuel Dining Hall located in Wilmington. We held a GOYA meeting on October 13th after church. On October 18th, several GOYAns and their families gathered at the Kotanidis' home for a fun night and had a bonfire! Thank you very much Mr. & Mrs. Kotanidis for opening your house for the GOYA. A meeting will be held in November to discuss the details for our tournament (Feb 15-16); the date for this meeting will be announced soon. We have another fun activity night planned for December 6th (more details TBA)! Congratulations to the GOYAns that received an award for the Ambassador Program! Our executive board and advisors are working together to plan different fundraisers that will take action within the next weeks. We attended a basketball tournament at St. Sophia in Washington, DC on October 26-27, and we are planning to attend a tournament in Baltimore, MD on November 23-24th. 11 A PLEA FROM DEAN For the past couple of years, our ecclesiastical community has passed through a traumatic path that has left multiple scars. We are now at the proverbial crossroad that will determine which of the two ladies coming to visit us we will follow: Lady Apathy (Kakia) or Lady Empathy (Areti)! The great Athenian Pericles told us: Whoever is indifferent to the affairs of state is not only useless but good for nothing! Affairs of state are all inclusive, whether federal, state, city, community or church. Disinterest and silence on issues affecting us all are not democratic, and their disagreements with decisions made by the few, are not valid. As our martyred President John F. Kennedy stated: In these times, to do nothing, to be silent, not to challenge, is to abdicate citizen responsibility, or, as the great communicator President Ronald Reagan exclaimed: Today we did what we had to do. They counted on America to be passive. They were wrong! On Sunday, November 10, one of the most important General Assembly gatherings of our Community will be held in our Hellenic Center immediately after the Holy Liturgy. It is imperative that we not be passive in that we ALL attend, for this is a New Beginning or Awakening of and for our Parish. It is vitally important that we ALL attend, offer our suggestions, and even if we only listen, at the least we ALL will know which lady we will follow. See you ALL there! Βρίσκόμαστε τώρα στό παροιμιακό σταυροδρόμι τό οποίον θά προσδιορίσει ποίαν από τίς δύο κυρίες πού έρχονται νά μάς επισκευθούν θά ακολουθήσουμε: τήν Κυρία Απάθεια (Κακία) ή τήν Κυρία Εμπάθεια (Αρετή)! He studied Law in Athens and in Paris, but soon he studied philosophy and literature. He was a Greek writer and philosopher, celebrated for his novel Zorba the Greek, considered his magnum opus. He became known globally after the 1964 release of the Michael Cacoyannis film Zorba the Greek, based on the novel. He travelled almost everywhere; he learnt many foreign languages and left his scientific research for Nitsche. At philosophy: "Ascetics" (Salvatores Dei, 1927), script that expresses the writer's belief for metaphysics. At poetry: "The Odyssey" (1938) "Tertsines" and also some poetic works for theatre: "Protomastoras" (=foreman) "Melissa" (=Bee) "Julian" "Prometheus" etc. His novels are: "Alexis Zorbas" (1946) "O Xristos xanastavronetai" (=Christ is recrucified) (1948) "O ftoxoulis tou Theou" (=The God's poor man) (1952-3) "Anafora ston Greco (=Reference to Greco) (1961) He died in He lost the 1957 Nobel Prize in Literature to Albert Camus by one vote. Camus claimed that Kazantzakis deserved the honour "a hundred times more" than himself.

Όσο μεγαλώνω τόσο καταλαβαίνω ότι τίποτα δεν είναι δεδομένο στην ζωή. Το πρώτο πράγμα που κατάλαβα καλά είναι ότι η υγεία μας κινείται αντιστρόφως ανάλογα με την ηλικία μας. Η λαϊκή σοφία λέει ότι εκεί που είσαι ήμουνα και εκεί που είμαι θα έλθης. Ο Ιωάννης ο Χρυσόστομος λέγει Χριστιανά τα τέλη της ζωής ημών, ανώδυνα, ανεπαίσχυντα, ειρηνικά, δηλαδή, άς ζητήσουμε από τόν Κύριο νά είναι τά τέλη τής ζωής μας χριστιανικά, χωρίς πόνους καί ντροπή, ειρηνικά. Όλη η σοφία της ζωής εκφρασμένη με λίγες μόνο λέξεις. Είμαστε ο άνθρωπος εχέφρων, δηλαδή τα όντα που έχουν το δώρο του μυαλού. Τα τελευταία 100 χρόνια κατασκευάσαμε καταπληκτικές μηχανές. Κατασκευάσαμε αεροπλάνα που κινούνται με πολύ μεγάλες ταχύτητες, με καταπληκτικά συστήματα ασφαλείας. Παρ όλες τις τεχνολογικές βελτιώσεις τα ατυχήματα θα συνεχίζουν να συμβαίνουν. Οι προβλέψεις μας είναι στατιστικές και όχι απόλυτες. Κραταιές αυτοκρατορίες που κανείς δεν πίστευε ότι μια ημέρα θα κατέρρεαν, κατέρρευσαν. Βαβυλώνιοι, Ασσύριοι, Πέρσες Έλληνες, Ρωμαίοι, Μογγόλοι, Οθωμανοί, και Άγγλοι κυριάρχησαν στον κόσμο για λιγα χρόνια κι μετα κατέρρευσαν. Όλοι προσπαθούμε να συγκεντρώσουμε περισσότερα υλικά αγαθά και νομίζουμε ότι θα παραμείνουν στους απογόνους μας για πάντα. Όπως είναι γνωστό η πρώτη γενηά υποφέρει, η δεύτερη δημιουργεί, η τρίτη τα σπαταλά και η τέταρτη ξεκινά από την αρχή. Κανείς δεν μπορεί να είναι βέβαιος για το αύριο, γιατί τίποτα δεν έιναι δεδομένο στην ζωή. Κανείς δεν μπορεί να προβλέψη ότι αύριο δεν θα είμαστε στην θέση κάποιου που υποφέρει, όσο κι αν πιστεύουμε το αντίθετο. Η αλαζονεία και η βεβαιότητα είναι κακοί σύμβουλος. And yet, sometimes unexpectedly it becomes aggressive because it thinks it is in danger. I learned to be cautious because it is impossible to get into its mind and to control its instinct of every moment. As I grow older, one thing I have understood well is that nothing should be taken for granted in life. The first thing I understood very well is that our health moves inversely proportional to our age. Folk wisdom says that "Years ago I was where you are today, and years later you will be where I am today". John Chrysostom says "Let us ask the Lord to be the end of our Christian life without pain and shame, but peaceful." All the wisdom of life expressed in a few words. We belong to the species named the Human sapiens", meaning the beings which have the gift of mind. During the last 100 years we have built amazing machines. We have built airplanes moving at very high speeds, with amazing security systems. Despite all the technological improvements accidents will continue to occur. Our predictions are statistical and not absolute. Mighty empires that no one believed they would one day collapse after all they demised at the end. Babylonians, Assyrians, Persians, Greeks, Romans, Mongols, Ottomans, and the British dominated the world for a few years and at the end they all demised. We all try to gather more material goods and we believe that they will remain with our descendants forever. As it is known, the first generation suffers, the second creates the wealth, a social success, the third one spends all and the fourth one starts all over again. Nobody can be sure about tomorrow, because nothing should be taken for granted in life. Nobody can predict that tomorrow we will not be in the position of someone else who is suffering today, although we believe the opposite. The arrogance and certainty are bad counselors. Benjamin Franklin, that great American statesman and scientist has expressed his wisdom saying "two things in life are certain, taxes and death." What is left of him is his spirit and his contribution to the progress of human sapiens in time. After all, the only things we anticipate that will remain in perpetuity are the spirit of the humanity and the deeds that improve our lives.

Please join us as we honor them. Acknowledgement of Award The Nicholas J Bouras Award for Extraordinary Archon Dinner Dance took place on October 18. Archon Stephen Yallorakis, MD, DDS received this year s award. Dr. Yallorakis is one of the founding members of Holy Trinity Mission Church in Kingsport, Tenn. He and his wife Dr. Anna Yallorakis, have made it their personal mission to educate the Orthodox community about the Ecumenical Patriarchate. In 2007, they set in motion the religious education publication, First Among Equals and in 2012 donated a national mailing of this publication to be sent to all parishes, clergy, Sunday School educators and Archons nationwide. Donations were made this year so that the publication could be placed in nearly 160,000 issues of the Orthodox Observer. The Yallorakises also offered donations in 2006 for the restoration of the historic Transfiguration of Christ Our Savior Monastery on the island of Halki. In November 2007, the monastery was vandalized by Forestry Ministry officials in Turkey and they provided additional support for the monastery s renovation. PONIT OF INTEREST Stephen Yallorakis grew up in our Wilmington Community and was very active with his family in our Church life. He is the son of the late Michael Yallorakis. His mother, Maria Yallorakis, is now living in Kingsport, Tennessee. So proud to see this young man mature into such a beautiful and generous person! 30 Holy Trinity Food Pantry Thanksgiving Food Drive Begins at Holy Trinity With Thanksgiving fast approaching, more food will be needed to fill the hundreds of food baskets that will be prepared and delivered to the poor and unemployed throughout the city by various organizations. Our GOYA & Sunday School are also involved. We, the parishioners of Holy Trinity, can be involved in this special, great food drive by starting to fill the many bins found around the church and in the Narthex, with non-perishable food such as: Any food item that will not spoil. Soups, fish, vegetables, meats, fruit, (any canned item), cereals, sugar, rice, pasta, coffee, tea, baby food, gravies, etc. Especially needed this month : any food needed to prepare a Thanksgiving Dinner will be greatly appreciated Also, for your convenience, we will pick up any frozen food item from your home ~ just call the church office ( ) ~ deadline for this convenient pick-up service is Monday, November 25th. FROZEN FOOD items can be: Turkeys, other meats, vegetables, complete frozen dinners any food item found in the frozen food section of your favorite market. This year we welcome our GOYA and Sunday School children who will be separately holding food drives. There will be bins all around the church. LET S TRY TO FILL THEM ALL!! On Thanksgiving Day, when we are with family and friends around a table laden with the traditional turkey and all the trimmings, there will be many, many families in our city, eating their usual meager meal. We at Holy Trinity are involved in this nation-wide drive to feed our poor. Your food donations reach the tables of our city s under -privileged which statistics show the numbers are growing. Last month, Steve Nicholas delivered 49 bags of much-needed food to the Sunday Breakfast Mission, besides a delivery by Tina Ganiaris King. Pick up EXTRA food at the grocery store...
