ST. MAKRINA GROUP NEWS The St. Makrina group is joining a Pan-Orthodox food drive for St. Innocent s Orphanage in Tijuana Mexico. Please note that violators will be towed. We are Called to Bear Fruit At the Last Supper as we read in Chapter 15 of the Gospel of John Jesus instructed His disciples I Am the Vine; you are the branches. He was telling us that the purpose of our abiding in Him is that we may bear fruit for God in the world. By this My Father is glorified that you bear much fruit (John 15:8). Just as the vine bears fruit only through its branches so Jesus has chosen to work in the world through us. We are the members of His body the branches through which the Vine must bear fruit. We bear fruit when we serve and support God and His Church. November 11 2012

Sunday November 11 2012 Hymns Following the Gospel (Small Entrance) Apolytikion O Christ the angelic powers appeared at Your tomb the guards were as dead and Mary stood by the sepulcher seeking Your sacred body. You destroyed Hades yet remained untouched by it. You encountered the Virgin and through her bestowed Life. Glory to You who has risen from the dead! Apolytikion Your loyal martyr Lord while contending for you the crown of incorruption he earned for himself from you the God of all of us; for armed with your night he defeated the tyrants and crushed all the demons and their powerless presumption. Through his intercessions O Christ our God we pray to you to save our souls. Apolytikion for St. Vasilios Your message was carried throughout the world. As it received your mighty word By which you divinely made manifest And clarified the nature of existing things You set in order the customs of men You who are royal priesthood! Holy Father intercede with Christ our God To grant us His great mercy. Kontakion Today the most pure temple of the Savior the precious bridal chamber and Virgin the sacred treasure of God enters the house of the Lord bringing the grace of the Divine Spirit. The Angels of God praise her. She is the heavenly tabernacle. Verse: Bless God in the congregations. The Reading is from St. Paul s Letter to the Corinthians 4:6-15 Brethren it is the God who said "Let light shine out of darkness" who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way but not crushed; perplexed but not driven to despair; persecuted but not forsaken; struck down but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. For while we live we are always being given up to death for Jesus' sake so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death is at work in us but life in you. Since we have the same spirit of faith as he had who wrote "I believed and so I spoke" we too believed and so we speak knowing that He who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into His presence. For it is all for your sake so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving to the glory of God Προκείμενον. Ἦχος πλ β. 8th Sunday of Luke The Gospel of Luke 10:25-37 At that time a lawyer stood up to put Jesus to the test saying "Teacher what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" He said to him "What is written in the law? How do you read?" And he answered "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." And he said to him "You have answered right; do this and you will live." But he desiring to justify himself said to Jesus "And who is my neighbor?" Jesus replied "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and he fell among robbers who stripped him and beat him and departed leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite when he came to the place and saw him passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan as he journeyed came to where he was; and when he saw him he had compassion and went to him and bound up his wounds pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper saying 'Take care of him; and whatever more you spend I will repay you when I come back.' Which of these three do you think proved neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?" He said "The one who showed mercy on him." And Jesus said to him "Go and do likewise." Christian Stewardship is learning how to be a responsible and concerned caretaker of Christ s Church; it is learning how to enjoy Church life and be happy in Church work. for in Her dwells the fullness of the Spirit of God. our active commitment to use all our time talent and treasure for the benefit of humankind in grateful acknowledgment of Christ s redeeming love. caring for the needs of others. offering one s self to God as He offered Himself to us. what a person does after saying I believe as proof of that belief. devotion and service to God and His Church as persons as families as diocese/metropolis as national Church and as Church universal. If you wish to add or remove a name from the list please call the Church Office. CEMETERY VISITS: Due to the number of sacraments 40 day blessings and memorials on Sundays it is difficult to make unscheduled cemetery visits on Sundays after liturgy. If you would like a Trisagion at the graveside you are kindly asked to make an appointment during the week by calling the church office. WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS! Everyone is welcome in the Orthodox Church and may receive the blessed bread (antidoron) at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy. Sadly the divisions in the church prompt us all to work towards reunited Christianity. The culmination of this reunion will be the ability of all Christians to receive the Eucharist together. Until that blessed day arrives Orthodox Christians who are in good sacramental order are only permitted to receive Holy Communion in the Orthodox Church. If you have any questions or concerns please speak with Father Chris. HOSPITAL VISITS Salem Hospital is making a change in order to be in compliance with new privacy laws. This change will mean that we will no longer receive the list of Orthodox patients in the hospital. So if you or a loved one will be in the hospital please call the church office so that we can pay you a pastoral visit. This change will also affect Beverly Hospital as well. Also families of people in nursing home please call the church office so that their names will be included on the list of residents.
