And she cried aloud, Let it be unto me according to your word, and I shall bear Him Who is without flesh, Who shall borrow flesh from me, that through this mingling He may lead man up unto his ancient glory, for He alone has the power to do so. Stichos 6 For He has made His mercy to prevail over us, and the truth of the Lord abides to the ages. shall borrow flesh from me, that through this mingling He may lead man up unto his ancient glory, for He alone has the power to do so. Idiomela of the Feast Tone Plagal 2 John the Monastic Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen. Gabriel the Archangel was sent from heaven to announce to the Virgin the glad tidings of her conceiving; and coming to Nazareth he pondered in amazement on this wonder: How shall He Who dwells in the heights, Whom none can comprehend, be born of a Virgin? How shall He Whose throne is heaven and Whose footstool is the earth be held in the womb of a woman? He upon Whom the sixwinged Seraphim and the many-eyed Cherubim cannot gaze has been pleased at a single word to be made flesh of this His creature. It is the Word of God Who dwells within her. Why then do I stand here and not say to the Maiden: Rejoice, you who are full of grace, the Lord is with you; Rejoice, O pure Virgin; Rejoice O unwedded bride; Rejoice, Mother of Life; Blessed is the fruit of your womb. Entrance ὡς µόνος δυνατός, εἰς τὸ ἀρχαῖον ἀξίωµα, διὰ τῆς συγκράσεως. Πρόσχωµεν. Now Jacob went out from the Well of Oath and went toward Haran. So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. Then he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. So behold, the Lord stood above it and said, I am the Lord God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. Do not fear, the land on which you lie I will give to you and your seed. Also, your seed shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the tribes of the earth shall be blessed. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you. Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, The Lord is in this place, and I did not know it. So he was afraid and said, How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. Ἐξῆλθεν Ἰακὼβ ἀπὸ τοῦ φρέατος τοῦ ὅρκου καὶ ἐπορεύθη εἰς Χαρράν. She offered her sacrifices; she mixed her wine in a bowl and prepared her table. She sent her servants, inviting people to the bowl with a lofty proclamation, saying, he who is without discernment, let him turn aside to me; and to those in need of discernment, she says, come, eat my bread and drink the wine i mixed for you; forsake lack of discernment, and you shall live; seek discernment so you may live, and keep straight your understanding with knowledge. He who chastises evil men shall receive dishonor to himself, and he who reproves the ungodly man shall be blamed himself. Do not reprove evil men, so they may not hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you. Give the opportunity to a wise man, and he will be wiser; instruct a righteous man, and he shall continue to receive it. The fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the counsel of saints is understanding; for to know the law is characteristic of a good mind. For in this manner you will live a long time, and the years of your life shall be increased. Aposticha Idiomela Stichera Tone 4 In the sixth month the Archangel was sent to the pure Virgin, and with his greeting of Rejoice! he brought good tidings, that the Deliverer would come forth from her. And so, accepting his salutation with faith, she conceived You, the pre-eternal God, Who was pleased to become man ineffably, for the salvation of our souls. Proclaim from day to day the good tidings of the salvation of God. The Theotokos heard a voice she did not recognize, when the Archangel brought her the glad tidings of the Annunciation; and accepting the greeting with faith, she conceived You, the pre-eternal God. Therefore in great rejoicing we also cry unto You: O God, Who without change has been made flesh from her, grant peace to the world and great mercy to our souls. Sing to the Lord a new song, sing to the Lord all the earth. Behold, our restoration is now made manifest to us: God is ineffably united to men. At the words of the Archangel, error is laid low; for the Virgin receives joy, and the things of the earth have become heaven. The world is loosened from the ancient curse. Let creation rejoice exceedingly, and raise its voice to sing: O Lord, our Maker and Deliverer, glory to You. Idiomelon of the Feast Tone 4 Andrew of Jerusalem Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen. An angel and the chief among them, was sent from heaven to cry: Rejoice! to the Mother of God. And beholding You O Lord, taking bodily form, he stood marveling, and with his bodiless voice cried aloud to her saying: Rejoice, you, through whom joy shall shine forth; rejoice, you through whom the curse shall be blotted out. Rejoice, the restoration of the fallen Adam; rejoice, the redemption of the tears of Eve. Rejoice, height, hard to climb, for human minds; rejoice, depth, hard to explore, even for the eyes of angels. Rejoice, you that are the throne of a King; rejoice, you that sustains the Sustainer of all. Rejoice, star that caused the Sun to appear; rejoice, womb of the divine incarnating. Let no unclean hand touch God s living tabernacle; let the lips of the faithful sing without ceasing to the Theotokos the words of the angel, and repeat to her with joy: Rejoice full of grace, the Lord is with you! Troparia Proclaim, O earth, the tidings of great joy, and heavens proclaim God s glory. Having conceived God in ways past understanding, O Maiden, you have escaped from the ordinances of nature. For though by nature mortal, you were not subject to the established laws of motherhood. Therefore, as is meet, you hear the greeting, Rejoice, you who are full of grace, the Lord is with you. Proclaim, O earth, the tidings of great joy, and heavens proclaim God s glory. How do you give milk, O pure Virgin? This the tongue of mortal man cannot make plain. For you show forth something unknown to nature, that utterly surpasses the laws of birth. Therefore, as is meet, you hear the greeting, Rejoice, you who are full of grace, the Lord is with you. Proclaim, O earth, the tidings of great joy, and heavens proclaim God s glory. The Holy Scriptures speak of you mystically, O Mother of the Most-High. For Jacob saw in days of old the ladder that prefigured you, and said, This is the stair on which God shall tread. Therefore, as is meet, you hear the greeting, Rejoice, you who are full of grace, the Lord is with you. Proclaim, O earth, the tidings of great joy, and heavens proclaim God s glory. Idiomelon of the Feast Tone 2 By Theophanes Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen. Today is revealed the mystery that is from all eternity. The Son of God becomes the Son of Man, that, sharing in what is worse, He may make me share in what is better. In times of old Adam was once deceived; he sought to become God, but did not receive his desire. Now God becomes man, that He might make Adam God. Let creation rejoice, let nature exult, for the Archangel stands in fear before the Virgin and, saying to her Rejoice!, he brings the joyful greeting whereby our sorrow is relieved. O You Who in Your merciful compassion were made man, our God, glory to You. Great Doxology, and the Apolitikion of the Feast, On this day when our salvation is crowned for eternity...
