Hymns for Today Resurrection Hymn (4th Plagal Tone) Ex ipsus katitthes o efsplagnos tafin katethexo triimeros ina imas eleftherosis ton pathon i Zoi ke i anastasis imon Kirie thoxasi From on high did You descend, O merciful Lord, for us did You endure, three days in the tomb that we may be, released from passions in this world, You who are our resurrection and our life Glory unto You O Lord. Hymn for St. Catherine Let us praise the all lauded and noble bride of Christ, the godly Catherine, the guardian of Sinai and its defense, who is also our support and succor and our help; for with the Holy Spirit's sword she hath silenced brilliantly the clever among the godless; and being crowned as a Martyr, she now doth ask great mercy for us all. Hymn for the Transfiguration of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Metemorfothis en to ori, Christe o Theos, dixas tis mathites Sou tin doxan Sou, kathos i dynando Lampson ke imin tis amartolis to fos Sou to aidion, presvies tis Theotokou Fotodota doxa Si. When O Christ our God Thou wast Transfigured on the mountain Thou didst reveal Thy glory to Thy disciples in proportion as they could bear it. Let Thine everlasting light also enlighten us sinners. Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Thou Bestower of light, glory to Thee. Kontakion of The Forefeast of the Entry of the Theotokos into the Temple Ο καθαρώτατος ναός τού Σωτήρος, η πολυτίµητος παστάς καί Παρθένος, τό Ιερόν θησαύρισµα τής δόξης τού Θεού, σήµερον εισάγεται, εν τώ οίκω Κυρίου, τήν χάριν συνεισάγουσα, τήν εν Πνευµατι θείω, ήν ανυµνούσιν Άγγελοι Θεού, Αύτη υπάρχει σκηνή επουράνιος. The sacred treasury of God's holy glory, the greatly precious bridal chamber and Virgin, the Saviour's most pure temple, free of stain and undefiled, into the House of the Lord on this day is brought forward and bringeth with herself the grace of the Most Divine Spirit; her do God's Angels hymn with songs of praise, for she is truly the heavenly tabernacle.

Epistle - Galatians 3: 23-29; 4: 1-5 November 25, 2012 - Thirteenth Sunday of Luke Brethren, before faith came, we were being guarded under the law, having been closed up to the faith about to be revealed. Therefore the law hath become our tutor until Christ, in order that we might be justified by faith. But faith having come, we are no longer under a tutor. For all are sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many as were baptized into Christ, ye put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male and female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye are Christ s, then are ye Abraham s seed, and heirs according to promise. Now I say, as long as the heir is an infant, he differeth nothing from a slave, though he is lord of all; but he is under guardians and stewards until the appointed time of the father. So we also, when we were infants, were enslaved under the elements of the world. But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order that He might redeem those under the law, that we might receive what is our due, the adoption as sons.

November 25, 2012 - Ninth Sunday of Luke Gospel - St. Luke 18: 18-27 At that time, a ruler came to Jesus and asked him, ʺGood Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?ʺ And Jesus said to him, ʺWhy do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: ʹDo not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.ʹ ʺ And he said, ʺAll these I have observed from my youth.ʺ And when Jesus heard it, he said to him, ʺOne thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.ʺ But when he heard this he became sad, for he was very rich. Jesus looking at him said, ʺHow hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.ʺ Those who heard it said, ʺThen who can be saved?ʺ But he said, ʺWhat is impossible with men is possible with God.ʺ Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, ἄρχων λέγων διδάσκαλε ἀγαθέ, τί ποιήσας ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονοµήσω; εἶπε δὲ αὐτῷ ὁ Ιησοῦς τί µε λέγεις ἀγαθόν; οὐδεὶς ἀγαθὸς εἰ µὴ εἷς ὁ Θεός.

Welcome Visitors! We welcome all new visitors who worshipped with us this morning. We are pleased to have you with us! Please join us next door after service for coffee and fellowship. There is material in the entrance of the church regarding ministries and events of Transfiguration. We hope that you will return often to worship with us and grow in Christ! Receiving Holy Communion The sacrament of Holy Communion is reserved for only baptized and/or Chrismated Orthodox Christians who have properly prepared by fasting, prayer and confession. The Orthodox Church is not in sacramental communion with any other church outside the Orthodox Christian Faith. If you are not Orthodox, you are invited with everyone to receive the Antidoro (blessed bread) at the end of service. If you would like information about the Orthodox Church and becoming an Orthodox Christian, please see Father Vasileios after services. Sunday School Classes are in session. Please allow the Church School children and teachers to receive Holy Communion first so they can leave for their classes. Catherine the Great Martyr of Alexandria St. Catherine was born in the third century, in Alexandria, Egypt. Being of royal lineage, she was immersed in the great cultural tradition of Alexandria. She acquainted herself with the writings of the philosophers, poets, physicians, and scientists of the Hellenes. Through the influence of her pious mother, Catherine became a Christian in her youth. Her love of learning led her to the study of the Sacred Scriptures and the writings of the Church Fathers. She became a devoted follower of Christ and an ardent defender of the Orthodox faith. On November 25, 305, while still in the prime of her youth, Catherine was martyred in the city of her birth during the reign of the impious Emperor Maxentius. He marveled at her loveliness and wisdom but he was dreadfully dismayed by her defense of Christians. Because she was of imperial stock, he did not wish to harm her openly but hoped to humiliate her to submission. He ordered that she defend her faith in open debate with the renowned orators and philosophers of Alexandria. Catherine defeated and silenced them with her brilliance. The Emperor ordered Catherine be stripped of her imperial garb, flogged and tortured. He ultimately condemned her to death on the breaking wheel, an instrument of torture. According to legend, the wheel itself broke when she touched it, so she was beheaded. Her holy relics were taken by angels to a holy mountain near Mt. Sinai, where they were discovered many years later. The famous monastery of Saint Catherine was originally dedicated to the Holy Transfiguration of the Lord and the Burning Bush, but later was dedicated to Saint Catherine. Because of her royal lineage, St. Catherine is depicted invariably in imperial garments holding a martyr s cross. She is often shown seated at a desk upon which is an open book. Other books and a celestial sphere are at her feet, indicating her extensive knowledge and wisdom. She is also portrayed with her left hand resting on a wheel, the symbol of progress, but in her case the emblem of her martyrdom. Raising an Orthodox Family in Our World Today! and How to Find One s Mate: Orthodox Relationships and Dating for Today s World Dr. Phillip Mamalakis, PhD, and professor from Holy Cross in Pastoral Care, will be visiting Transfiguration to offer two seminars for our entire parish. The first seminar is entitled, Raising an Orthodox Family in Our World Today" and will be offered on Friday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with dinner. Babysitting will be made available. The second seminar, How to Find One's Mate: Orthodox Relationships and Dating for Today's World, will be offered after the Divine Liturgy, on Saturday, December 15, 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm with lunch offered.

WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS: Sunday, November 25, 2012 SERVICES FOR THIS WEEK: Feast of St. Andrew- Friday, November 30- Orthros at 9:00am; Divine Liturgy at 10:00am We welcome this morning Fr. Kosta and Presbytera Maria Petrogeorge! Thank you, Fr. Kosta, for serving with us while Fr. Vasileios is away for the Thanksgiving break. Thank you, also, to Fr. David and Presbytera Vasiliki Eckley for being with us today as well! The Memorial Service today is the 6 year memorial for Fr. George Calciu. Father George Calciu (1925 2006) was one of the great confessors of Christianity in the twentieth century. Having survived the diabolic prison experiments of Communist Romania, Fr. George went on to become an apostle to spiritual seekers in Romania and, eventually, throughout the world. He was able to speak authoritatively of God s love and forgiveness because of his own experience of God s mercy. As a priest in America, Fr. George maintained a strict ascetic life of fasting and prayer, while at the same time pastoring his flock as a joyful and loving father. Last week s Memorial Service was for the parents of Bill and Betty Colovas: Styliani, Stylianos, Chryse, Konastantinos, Stavros May their memories be eternal. The Artoklasia service today is offered in thanksgiving by Steve Kounelias. Congratulations to Anastasia (Stacey) Kounelias and Christopher Mann Chamberlin on their wedding on November 8th at the Annunciation Cathedral in Nassau, Bahamas. Agape Choir Christmas Program We are excitedly preparing for our beautiful Holy Night event! Mark your calendars for December 16 at 4:00. In the midst of the many secular activities that will fill the Christmas season, letʹs make sure that our children are seeing their Orthodox parish up front and center. Thank you It is with a grateful heart that I write this message to all of you. It was a privilege for me to work with so many generous and talented volunteers while chairing the Transfiguration Twenty-Seventh Anniversary Gala. Over the last seven months many volunteers worked tirelessly, yet joyfully, while planning the event. The planning committee, those who attended, advertised in the program, donated to the auction and purchased auction items created a beautiful evening to remember. It is my prayer that God will bless you abundantly for supporting our church as He has blessed me with the opportunity to serve this community. Judith Kountoupis
