4-3 FREQUENCY SYNTHESIZER CIRCUIT (MAIN UNIT) VCs The ID-A/E has total of four VCs; two VCs for band A and another two for band B. Band A VHF VC (VC UNIT) The VHF VC (Q3, D34 D36) generates both st L signal (for receiving a VHF signal on band A) and the VHF TX signal. While receiving, the L signal is applied to the st IF mixer (Q8) for receiving a signal on the VHF band, through the RF (D8). While transmitting, the L signal is applied to the TX circuits, through the L (D4). UHF VC (VC UNIT) The UHF VC (Q7, D D) generates both st L signal (for receiving a UHF signal on band A) and the UHF TX signal. The output of buffer (Q) is amplifi ed by the L (Q), and then used as the UHF TX/RX L signal. While receiving, the L signal is applied to the st IF mixer (Q8) for receiving a signal on the UHF band, through the RF (D8). While transmitting, the L signal is applied to the TX circuits, through the L (D4). Band B VHF VC (VC UNIT) The VHF VC (Q3, D34 D36) generates the st L signal (for receiving a VHF signal on band B). The output of buffer (Q) is amplifi ed by the L (Q), and then used as the st L signal. UHF VC (VC UNIT) The UHF VC (Q7, D D) generates st L signal (for receiving a UHF signal on band B). The output of buffer (Q) is amplifi ed by the L (Q), and then used as the UHF TX/RX L signal. While receiving, the L signal is applied to the st IF mixer (MAIN UNIT: Q8) for receiving a signal on the UHF band, through the RF (MAIN UNIT: D8). PLL Band A A portion of VHF and UHF VCs output signal is amplifi ed by two buffers (VC UNIT: Q and Q) and passed through the (VC UNIT: L, C9 to C), and then fed back to the PLL IC (IC6, pin 8). The PLL IC (IC6) phase-compares the output of reference frequency oscillator (TCX; X) and VC, and the phase difference is output as the charge pump current. The current is passed though the loop fi lter (R67, R7, R9, R93, C9, C9, C96 and C) to be converted into the lock voltage, which controls the oscillating frequency of VC. When the oscillation frequency drifts, its phase changes from that of the reference frequency, causing a lock voltage change to compensate for the drift in the VC oscillating frequency.
