STION 4 IRUIT DSRIPTION 4- RIVR IRUITS NTNN SWITHING The antenna switching circuit toggles the receive (RX) line and transmit (TX) line. The received signals from the antenna are passed through a two-staged Low-Lass Filter (LPF; L, L, 5) and then applied to the antenna switch (D, D, D8, L5, L58, 5, 76, 56). While transmitting, the voltage on the T5V line is applied to D, D and D8, and these are ON. Thus the TX line is connected to the antenna. Simultaneously, the RX line is connected to the to prevent transmit signal entering. While receiving, no voltage is applied to the D, D and D8, and these are OFF. Thus the TX line and the antenna is disconnected to prevent received signals entering. Simultaneously, the RX line is disconnected from the and the received signals are passed through the LPF (L5, L58, 5, 76, 56). The fi ltered signals are applied to the RF circuits. RF IRUITS (RF UNIT) RF circuits fi lter and amplify the received signals within the frequency coverage. The received signals from the antenna switch are passed through a tuned andpass filter (PF; D9, L6, 8) and applied to the RF amplifier (Q) that received signals are amplified in low NF rate. The pass band frequency of the tuned PF (D9, L6, 8) is adjusted by the tuning voltage T from the D/ converter (I0, pin ), to suppress unwanted signals for high selectivity. The amplified received signals are passed through the tuned PF (D, D, L8, 9, 94, 96, 50), limiter (D7) and the tuned PF (D65, L57, 505, 507), then applied to the st mixer (Q). ST IF IRUITS (RF UNIT) The received signals are converted into the st IF signal, fi ltered and amplifi ed at the st IF circuits. The signals from the RF circuits are applied to the st mixer (Q) and converted into the fixed frequency of st IF signal by mixing with the st Local Oscillator (LO) signals from the VO (Q76, D59 D6). y changing the st LO frequency, only the desired frequency will pass through a pair of crystal filters at the next stage of the mixer. y changing LO frequency, the frequency of the st IF signal is fixed one for the receiving frequency. The converted st IF signal is passed through the PF (FI) and limiter (D6), then amplified by the st IF amplifier (Q4). The amplified st IF signal is applied to the IF I (I, pin 6). ND IF IRUITS (RF UNIT) The st IF signal is converted into the nd IF signal and demodulated. The st IF signal from the st IF circuits are converted into the nd IF signal at the nd mixer section of the IF I (I), by mixing with the nd LO signal which is generated at the reference frequency oscillator (X4) after being passed through the PLL I (I9, pins, ) and the tripler (Q8). The converted nd IF signal is output from pin and passed through the PF (FI) to remove the sideband noise, then applied to the nd IF amplifier section in I (pin 5). The amplified nd IF signal is then applied to the FM-detector section. The demodulated F signals are output from pin 9 and applied to the F circuits. F IRUITS (LOGI UNIT) The demodulated F signals from the IF I are amplified and fi ltered at the F circuits. F signals from the nd IF circuits are passed through the the HPF (I, pins 6, 7), and LPF (I, pins, 4) via the TX/RX F switches (I4, pins, ; 0, ). The switched F signals are passed through the D/ converter (RF UNIT; I0, pins, ) for audio level adjustment. The D/ converter is a level controller I which adjusts F signal level according to the control signals ( DT, STRO, LOK ) from the PU (I8). The level adjusted F signals are then applied to the F power amplifier (I, pin 4) to be amplified to obtain rated audio output power. The power-amplified F signals are output from pin 0, and then drive internal or external speaker. nd IF ND DMODULTOR IRUITS FI nd IF filter 8 7 5 45.9 MHz Q8 PLL I (I9) 4 D/ converter (I0) Demodulated signals to the LOGI UNIT Quadrature detector 9 0 Filter amp. SQULH IRUIT (RF ND LOGI UNITS) - NOIS SQULH - The noise squelch mutes the F output when no RF signals are received. y detecting noise components (around 0 khz signals) in the demodulated F signals, the squelch circuit toggles the mute switch and F power amplifier ON and OFF. portion of the F signals from the IF I (RF UNIT; I, pin 9) are passed through the D/ converter (RF UNIT; I0, pins, 4) for level adjustment. The level adjusted F signals are applied to the noise filter section (RF UNIT; I, pins 7, 8; R86 R88,, ) which allows only noise components to pass. The filtered noise components are amplified at the noise amplifier section, and rectified into the D voltage which is proportional to the noise signal level, at the noise detector section, then output from pin as the NOIS signal. The NOIS signal is applied to the PU (LOGI UNIT; I8, pin 7), and the PU compares the NOIS signal and set reference level (squelch threshold level). When the input NOIS signal is higher than reference level, the PU cuts off FON signal (from pin 4) to the F power amplifier control circuit (LOGI UNIT; Q4 Q6) to deactivate the F power amplifier (LOGI UNIT; I). - TON SQULH - The tone squelch circuit detects tone signals and opens the squelch only when receiving a signal containing a matched sub audible tone. When the tone squelch is in use, and a signal with a mismatched or no subaudible tone is received, the tone squelch circuit mutes the F signals even when the noise squelch is open. portion of the demodulated F signals is passed through the LPF (LOGI UNIT; Q5) to filters TSS/DTS signal. The filtered signal is applied to the PU (LOGI UNIT; I8, pin 9). The PU compares the applied signal and the set TSS/DTS, then the PU controls the status ( Low or High ) of FON signal as NOIS SQULH. The MI signals are amplified and filtered to obtain +6 d/oct of frequency characteristic by I. The amplified and emphasized MI signals are output from the pin 8, and passed through the splatter filter (I, pins, 4) which suppresses khz and higher audio components, via the TX/RX switch (I4, pins, 4; 8, 9). The filtered MI signals are then applied to the modulation circuit. MODULTION IRUITS (RF UNIT) - MI SIGNLS - The modulation circuits modulates the VO oscillating signal using the modulation signals. - TON SIGNLS - TSS/DTS signals are output from PU (LOGI UNIT; I8, pin ) and passed through the LPF (R4, R7, 9), then applied to the LPF (as the F mixerf UNIT; I, pin ) to be mixed with MI signals. The mixed TSS/DTS signals are applied to modulation circuits as MI SIGNLS. TRNSMIT MPLIFIRS (RF UNIT) The transmit signal from the buffer amplifier (Q74) is amplified to the transmit output level by the transmit amplifi ers. The buffer-amplified VO output signal is amplified by transmit amplifiers; pre-drive (Q), drive (Q) and power (Q) amplifiers in sequence, after being passed through the TX/RX switch (D). The power-amplified transmit signal is passed through the power detector (D, D), antenna switch (D) and LPF (as a harmonic filter ; L, L, 5), before being emitted from the antenna. The MI signals from F circuits are passed through the D/ converter (I0, pins, ) for level (deviation) adjustment. The level adjusted MI signals are applied to the variable capacitor (D6) in the VO (Q76, D59 D6), and modulate the VO oscillating signal by changing the reactance of D6. The modulated VO output are bufferamplified by Q75 and Q74, then applied to the transmit amplifier as a transmit signal. 4 -

P (utomatic Power ontrol) IRUIT (RF UNIT) The P (utomatic Power ontrol) circuit prevents the transition of the transmit output power level which is caused by load mismatching or heat effect, etc. t the power detector (D, D), a portion of the transmit signal is rectified into D voltage which is proportional to the transmit power level. The rectified voltage is applied to the inverted input terminal of the operational amplifier (I6, pin ). The voltage T from the D/ converter (I0, pin 0) is applied to the noninverted input terminal as the reference. The operational amplifier compares the rectified voltage and reference voltage T, and the difference of the voltage is output from the operational amplifier pin. The output voltage controls the bias of drive (Q) and power (Q) amplifiers for stable transmit output power. The change of transmit power is carried out by changing the reference voltage T, and transmit muting (deactivation of drive and power amplifiers) is carried out by TX switch (Q7) controlled by TX signal from PU (LOGI UNIT; I8, pin 59). P IRUITS VO output from bufffer-amp (Q74) TX/RX SW D Q Pre-drv. MP Q Drv. MP Q PWR MP Power detector LPF NT SW D LPF NT I6 OP MP + T TX 4- FRQUNY SYNTHSIZR IRUITS VO (RF UNIT) VO (Voltage ontrolled Oscillator) is a oscillator whose oscillating frequency is controlled by adding voltage (lock voltage). VO oscillates the both of transmit and st LO signals. The VO output signals are buffer-amplified by Q74 and Q75. While receiving, the VO output is passed through the TX/RX switch (D4) and the LPF (L9, L8, L59, 0, 45, 47, 59), then applied to the st mixer (Q) to be mixed with the received signals to produce the 46.5 MHz st IF signal. While transmitting, the buffer-amplified VO output is passed through the TX/RX switch (D) and applied to the transmit amplifiers. PLL (Phase Locked Loop) IRUIT (RF UNIT) The PLL circuit provides stable oscillation of the transmit frequency and receive st LO frequency. The PLL output frequency is controlled by the divided ratio (N-data) from the PU. portion of VO output is applied to the PLL I (I9, pin 8) via buffer amplifiers (Q5, Q75). The applied signal is divided at the pre-scalar and programmable counter according to the control signals PLLST, PLLDT and PLLK from the PU (L; I8, pins 6, 65 and 66). The divided signal is phase-compared with the reference frequency signal from the reference frequency oscillator (X4), at the phase detector. The phase difference is output from pin 5 as a pulse type signal after being passed through the internal charge pump. The output signal is converted into the D voltage (lock voltage) by passing through the loop filter (R445 R448, 47 475, 59). The lock voltage is applied to the variable capacitors (D59 and D60) of VO (Q76, D59 D6) and locked to keep the VO oscillating frequency constant. If the oscillated signal drifts, its phase changes from that of the reference frequency, causing a lock voltage change to compensate for the drift in the VO oscillating frequency.
