What are the differences and similarities between RWD and data from clinical trials? Randomised clinical trials provide High level of evidence as a basis for approval of treatment Real-world data provide Results as a basis for generating hypotheses* and interpreting results from clinical practice Data from controlled, randomised, unbiased populations Basis for treatment guidelines Data from non-randomised patients Additional data to help inform treatment decision-making What does this mean? Real-world data complement clinical trial results to provide additional information to assist in making treatment decisions *Based on transferability of trial findings to clinical practice

Conclusion Our data indicate that overall persistence with rivaroxaban therapy is high, with a discontinuation rate of 15% in the first year of treatment and few additional discontinuations thereafter. Westendorf JB, et al. Europace 2015, February 17 th
February 8 th, 2017 The first large trial of a newer oral anticoagulant (NOAC) for prevention among coronary artery disease (CAD) and peripheral artery disease (PAD) -- the COMPASS study -- has been stopped early for "overwhelming efficacy," Bayer AG and Janssen, manufacturers of rivaroxaban (Xarelto). The phase III trial randomized 27,402 CAD and PAD patients to receive either rivaroxaban 2.5 mg twice daily in addition to aspirin 100 mg once daily, rivaroxaban 5 mg twice daily alone, or aspirin 100 mg once daily alone. The trial was stopped a year ahead of its scheduled completion date following a recommendation by the Data Monitoring Committee. That committee said the trial reached its prespecified criteria for superiority on the primary endpoint of first occurrence of either MI, stroke, or cardiovascular death.
