Δομή Lp(a)= Απολιποπρωτεΐνη Β100 (LDL) που ενώνεται με δισουλφιδριλικό δεσμό με την απολιποπρωτεΐνη (α) Απολιποπρωτεΐνη Lp(a): περιέχει 10 διαφορετικούς τύπους πλασμινογόνου kringle 4 (ποκοίλο μέγεθος) καθώς και kringle 5 and protease-p of plasminogen.
Η Lp(a) αποτελεί μόριο ένωσης της LDL με το apo-b-100 τμήμα της με δισουλφιδική γέφυρα με την apo(a) Lp(a, μια λιποπρωτεΐνη περίπλοκη με ποικοίλο μοριακό βάρος, ομοιάζουσα με το πλασμινογόνο.
Τα μικρού μεγέθους μόρια της apo(a) πιο αθηρογόνα και οδηγούν σε ψηλότερα επίπεδα Lp(a). Η apo(a) περιέχει kringle IV, και 10 υπότυπους kringle V του πλασμινογόνου ο kringle IV 2 ανευρίσκεται σε πολλά αντίγραφα (3->40) ανάλογα με το πολυμορφισμό του γονιδίου και ευθύνεται για το ποικοίλο μοριακό βάρος της Lp(a) Τα μικρού μεγέθους apo(a) ισομερή έχουν αυξημένη αντιινοδωλιτική δράση και είναι ανεξάρτητοι παράγοντες κινδύνου για καρδιαγγειακά συμβάματα, σε ασθενείς με ΣΝ ειδικά σε ΑΥ. <0.1 mg/dl με >250 mg/dl Περιγράφηκε από τον Berg το 1963 που βρήκε αυξημένα της επίπεδα γενετικώς καθοριζόμενα (γονίδιο της LPA) και σχετιζόμενα με αυξημένο κίνδυνο εμφάνισης πρώιμης καρδιαγγειακής νόσου Berg K. χαρακτηριστικά: οι μικρού μοριακού βάρους ισομορφές της Lp(a) σχετίζονται με υψηλότερες συγκεντρώσεις (Utermann G, Menzel HJ, Kraft HG, Duba HC, Kemmler HG, Seitz C. Lp(a) glycoprotein phenotypes. Inheritance and relation to Lp(a)-lipoprotein concentrations in plasma. J Clin Invest 1987;80(2): 458e65). Υψηλές συγκεντρώσεις και το μικρό μοριακό βάρος σχετίζονται με υψηλό καρδιαγγειακό κίνδυνο (Erqou S, Thompson A, Di Angelantonio E, Saleheen D, Kaptoge S, Marcovina S, et al. Apolipoprotein(a) isoforms and the risk of vascular disease: systematic review of 40 studies involving 58,000 participants. J Am Coll Cardiol 2010;55(19):2160e7).

The 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated from the floated variances that reflect the amount of information underlying each group (including the reference group). Lp(a) quintiles were defined as: 0 to <3.2, 3.2 to <8.6, 8.6 to <17.7, 17.7 to <45, and 45 mg/dl. CVD = cardiovascular disease.

ERK stimulates lysosomal p47 clustering and NADPH oxidase dependent generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) known as the oxidative burst. ROS generation is sustained by the presence of an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress inducing agent and is essential for macrophage apoptosis induced by this pathway.
